Something unexpected after One Tamriel

As others have said if you don't wanna do extra grinding, just reaserach ahead of time save zones for the gear you really want for cp160.

You can still always rely on the crafted sets to fills gaps or have a set till you really get the set you want. Even the deathwind set I think requires 2 traits is great for a noob and easy to get. Any noob can use extra health and then the set bonus knocks all the enimies down when you fall below a health threshold, I remember using that and it saved my life a lot as a noob.

You could always wait for the next exp event and grind up in a public dungeon too, I did that during the anniversary event last time and leveled a character to max level in hours just griniding. But before OT it really sucked taking a V16 character through deeshan and stuff, I barely earned any exp even toward CP's till I think back the rift and maybe late in eastmarch. Obviously now with OT it'll be tons of exp out there and loot to be gotten.

The most unexpected thing from 1tam that I have seen has to do with the quality of pve pugs. I used to love to pug on my tanks doing pledges, but now, its really gotten to be a headache. People don't seem to want help with their setup/rotation no matter how polite you are about it.

Here's how I leveled my alt:

    Got 10 Xp scrolls
    Ran random dungeons
You get the dungeon Xp, quest Xp, and extra Xp from the scrolls.
I went from 25 to 50 in about two days while only completing one zone. Only upgraded my gear once at lvl 40.

And OP is correct. Standard MO is just to level then do quests for gear one wants.

I guess no matter what they do, ZOS can't make people happy.

And no, if they shift quest rewards away from levels, people will complain that leveling alts will give them the same "crap" over and over again.

Maybe they should just make all set quest rewards Training or Prosperous?

Wasn't intended as a complaint, just an observation of an effect OT had on me that I found surprising. Was just curious if anyone else had noticed this or anything else.

As a bonus, there have been some great suggestions of ways around it that just need a little adjustment of how I play. No biggie. Decided to view first zone as a throw away for this alt and I'll come back with my higher leveled ones if I find anything worthwhile.

I'm only a teenie bit upset about the level 44 purple Impen Soulshine boots that randomly dropped the day after I'd paid 40k for some for my main! Oh well!

Oddly enough, before One Tamriel, I had 3 characters that were pretty much not questing because they had outleveled their zones because of guild events. Now I can take my CP 160 characters back to what used to be the level 20 zones and they can have a meaningful experience. I've not yet worked on the level 25 character because I want to burn through my enlightenment first, and my other characters have enough to do. But to me, One Tamriel has actually been an incentive to go back to questing rather than the opposite.

I have found that my lowbies get tons of armor in impen and divines and weapons in sharpened.

As soon as they turn level 50, they get CP 160 training, prosperous and well fitted armor and defending weapons.

    Working as intended

This is only a problem for collectors and hoarders.
The items gained via quests are very rarely BiS, and there is absolutely no real value in them besides the "unique name".
Even if there IS one BiS item given by a quest, you can always choose NOT to take the item when you are handing in the quest, and exit the conversation. You can then wait to be max level before returning to pick up your reward.

Those rewards are really nice but nothing groundshaking.

Jakarn's Sharpened Machete of the Trainee comes to mind.

I just checked an alt I had at lvl50 and the only freaking quests I've done with him are Jakarn's and that other sharpened Trainee weapon quest for Seyne or whatever her name is. Unfreakinbelievable. I now have to level up another alt to 50 just for these quests.

I grind my alts up so it is nice because I get the items and my wife is new to the game I can go back and do the quests with her now.

I'm so confused... I'm coming back after quitting about a year ago and I'm starting at level 1 (I have some high level toons but feel like its been awhile and need to start over).

So should I not quest if I want to have good armor sets at lvl 50??
Do you gain CP points while leveling below 50 now or only after you hit 50 like it was before??

I'm lost reading this thread.... I don't want to quest my way to cap and then find out I lost out on armor sets and now need to somehow grind a ton of gold to buy off the market.

I was looking forward to questing and running dungeons and crafting but I don't want to quest if I'm going to be at a disadvantage. People are also talking about the main story line and fighters/mages guild... should I hold off on doing that also until I'm lvl 50? Should I wait until I'm not only lvl 50 but CP160??

<snip> What I really do not like about it, is that it punishes the unaware newbie player, who has not enough time to invest in fast levelling an alt to get the lvl 50 set items.<snip>

The "unaware newbie player" doesn't need to do anything other than take his/her time leveling their first character through the game in the intended way. The shortcut way rushing through zones missing out this and that and leaving other bits for later is something best left for the experienced player looking to fast-level alts. Why wouldn't a newbie player just want to play the game and be best left to do just that?

Some pof the zone main quest missions give set pieces but they are the same sets that drop overland in the zone for delves dolmens dungeons chests etc. They aren't any better, quite a few IMX are "ornate" so you are not missing out on anything you cant get after hitting lvl50+cp. There are a few quests where the reward may be a weapon and weapons are a little harder to get but that is not the norm.

So, quest away and you will be fine.

But if you want to head it off somewhat, take my advice and run all the starter zones first (5 across three alliances) then run the first zones across each alliance etc.

Honestly, as a brand new player I wouldn't worry about it. The first time leveling up (especially all the way to 160cp) takes the longest so you'll not only get more out of sets but can then keep them for alts as and when you make them.

It's only a slight issue for me because I have +160CP characters that are currently farming the sets I'm coming across with my lowbies.

If you plan on doing group stuff, the drops from those are usually better but I'm an impatient soloer who would rather take a so-so trait in the right set than spend hours farming, so they're perfect for me

    Yep.

Now I level Alts by chasing Skyshards, Lorebooks, Public Dungeons and Dolmens in a zone. I don't do any quests other than the Delve Quests that have Skyshards in them, as those rewards are not useful anyway at any level. I just took a character to L50 by doing this in 6 of the zones, but I still have most all the quests in those zones left to do. All the loot I did get is repeatable on level so no loss there. Now, any rewards I get will be CP160.

But, to take a character out of the Wailing Prison and start them on the story, Zone, Main or otherwise? Nope. Not until they are L50, and at Champ Rank.

There are no set item rewards from the main quest line, the Mages Guild quest line, or the Fighters Guild quest line (with two minor exceptions: the final weapon rewarded from the main and FG quest lines belong to a set, but it's a craftable set).

Furthermore, the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quest lines reward items in the form of coffers, so you can hold onto them and open them when you're ready (though the Sithis set is utter vendor/decon trash, so there's no point in holding those).

Finally, the Imperial City main quest line does not reward any set items.

These quest chains are perfectly safe to complete.

Unique items should be BOP and scale with the level. Problem solved.

Named items from dungeons (e.g., the healthy SPC neck from WGT) are already BoP. As for scaling, not sure what you mean--that the item's level changes with the person equipping it?

Now that quest rewards can be actual useful set items, sometimes even in useful traits, I'm finding it don't want to complete them while I'm still leveling...
...and that's what cadwells is for, when you'll get all the quest reward set stuff from the other two alliances at useful CP levels.
And if you like the stoff from your main alliance... well, that is what alts are for, right? Now we only need more bank space to avoid gear juggling... ;)

Honestly there is no drive for me to do quests anymore because of scaling. I just grind on Dolmens and WB's for drops, Delves and public dungeons
Otherwise Im doing pledges and Group dungeons

I do this both to level up as well as aquire items.
Quests I'm really picky and only do the ones that give me skill points
    .
I've lost all meaning to level up through normal side quests that give a green item and little exp.

1t really helps with all levelling imo. It socks as a first time player running their first toon but really it's not that much of a loss since you can still come back after cp 160 and farm the sets you want.

I always believe in this 3D +1 rule. It's 1) Delves 2) Dolmens 3) Dungeons [public] + 1 which is the instances dungeons. I however won't finish up a quest in the instances dungeon since those gives sets that I might need later on. The 3D rule I use for levelling and while I am doing those, I que for instance dungeons, even finishing pledges (once you past 45-47 I believe) and hold on to the keys.

I have three main alts that I start at the different factions so as I can farm the higher tier ones once they reach cp160.

Remember, your items can be shared among your characters so there is absolutely no need to hoard two helms of the same set on two different characters. It's just wasted space.
