Oblivion. Skyrim was technically a better game but I still prefer the quests, characters, environment and overall atmosphere of its predecessor. There's a simple charm to it that Skyrim didn't manage to capture.

Agreed. Looking upon the White Gold Tower and walking around the Imperial City for the very first time was awesome. Also, the quests were much better and funnier than Skyrim.

I was talking to some friends about this and figured this would be interesting to put on the forums. so my first RPG was Quest 64 (Holy Magic Century in EU) it was... not the best looking back but I fell in love with RPG genera especially after the Final Fantasy GBA remakes and...Pokemon so I guess it was a positive. What was your first RPGs?

Are we talking about just video games or does table top count if so my first RPG was Dungeons & Dragons. I played it long before I had a video game system.

Well, if we're going by turn-based RPG's then, Dragon Warrior.

If we're going by action adventure RPG's then, The Legend of Zelda.

And if we're going by MMO RPG's then, Priston Tale 2 (during the 2 year open beta).

My first RPG is probably Pokemon red but I consider Star wars Knights of the old republic as my first RPG and still one of my favorite games of all time.I played it when I was 7-8 I believe and never beat it but my uncle who was 13 did I watch him play it and I beat a few levels and found several pieces of the star map for him.Man I love that game and really hope they remaster it.So I can finally beat it now that am older and know what the hell am doing lol.

Heck I don't know, we are talking 1000s of games and 30 years ago. My first was probably not that memorable. I was deep into FPS once the original doom and quake came out. The rest of my gaming took a backseat.

I still remember playing Oregon trail on 5 1/2 inch disk, having a perfect game with all family members alive and full of life, 2 feet from paradise and a wheel breaks. Trade an Indian for a wheel but the game bugged and took my stuff but I didn't receive the wheel. Everyone starved to death and game over. I have never trusted trading with an Indian since.

Bauldurs's Gate and then Bauldur's Gate 2 which is the best game I have ever played to this date. Bioware used to be the masters of story telling in a game and the emo really gets to you.

I don't remember my first RPG, but I remember being completely addicted to the Baldur's Gate games. The voice of Minsc will never leave me.

Hm, probably Mystic Quest Legend on the SNES, or Might and Magic 3 on the PC, or Wizardry 7 or Realms of Arkania: Star Trail. Not sure which one I played first :) I played many Action Adventure games in fantasy worlds before that but I wouldn't qualify those as RPGs in a strict sense.

I'm feeling like a baby here, reading these posts :P

    Thanks!
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

It's kind of hard to choose. I played so many games as a kid. I could say Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver (PS1, 1999) as that was pretty much the first game I ever played and has RPG elements but is mostly classed as action adventure (it's also still my favourite game to this day)
Perhaps then it was Pokemon Sapphire the original (GBA, 2003), and then Drakengard (PS2, 2004). All of them were amazing games for me. :)

EDIT: I just realised, since people are listing not just video games, I also played Fighting Fantasy, which were role play game books by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, around 2002. Dice and paper! I was 11 years old :)
