probably "The Lords of Midnight" back in the 80's, i'm not sure, i remember better those long tape loading times on zx spectrum than the game itself :') ...but my best early memory of RPG on video games is clearly "Ultima Underworld".

    Dungeons and Dragons of course.

For a video game, it was Final Fantasy on the NES. Started that game at 5 PM and ended up playing it all night long until the sun came up the next day.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Final Fantasy III (aka FF 6) SNES.

What a ruined franchise FF has become. You didn't get better story and characters than classic FF games. Now FF characters are anime emo teens trying to save the planet from weird convoluted enemy all the while maintaining their dragon ball z hairstyles.

To me FF 3 is the best single player rpg ever. The super nes version, not the remakes

Single player = Kentilla on the Spectrum 48k. That was back in about 1985. The Hobbit came out at about the same time. Back then, they were called adventure games. RPGs to me are games like D&D (basic, expert and later on, advanced), Runequest and Middle Earth Role Play to name just a tiny few.

I agree. Nintendo had it good during the SNES era with RPG games. The Nintendo 64 was great too, but we all know thats when RPG's went CD Rom, leaving Nintendo dry for a long time. That being said Chrono Trigger on SNES and Chrono Cross on PS1 great stories and character development.

Haha! That was me with my first RPG (FF9). That first play session must've been 12+ hours and I was up long after sunrise.

To me it was Morrowind GotY edition in 2004 - and I did not even buy it for me, but for a friend, who did not want to play it - so I played it instead and got hooked.
