First of all, I consider my money well spent, so this isn't a "QQ" thread. I guess overall I spent about $200 and the game entertained me for about 1,170 hours (30 hrs per week * 39 weeks). I consider 17 cents per hour for entertainment a pretty good bargain. I not only had one epic adventure where I saved the world and defeated a daedric prince, but I also went back in time and saved two other kingdoms. Then I did the hole thing again.
But now I am starting to see that I have to spend an increasing amount of time and effort to gain the same level of enjoyment. Maybe its due to the fact that I don't really see the point of it all after "winning".
What do you find fun after somewhere around CP 350?
PVE
Questing: I've done all the major quests, so now it's just the side quests, which are pretty easy. I mainly do these when I just want to relax or there is nothing else to do.
Dungeons: I basically do dungeons and trials now because "they are there", or someone is looking for people to do it with them. Sure it's fun, but each time you get better and so it's less fun and less challenging each time you do it.
Farming: The idea of doing a the same dungeon a dozen times in the hopes that a specific piece to drop at a reasonable quality just seems like madness / hell to me. I understand that the developers want to prevent people from getting too powerful too quickly, but it just seems extreme right now. How many keys do I need to get a usable shoulder piece? Really?
"special events" can be cool, but mostly I see it as a miserable unendurance grind - like sleeping on the floor at Wal Mart for three days to get the limited edition Star Wars action figure or whatever. I understand how some people do it, but It's not fun for me. I think similarly to dropping money on crown crates.
PVP
I never really enjoyed PVP in Cyrodil or IC because inevitably I'd die from a mob or attack from behind, often from someone using some kind of cheat like two dawnbreakers in a row - or death followed by seeing my opponent's attacks. Or you just couldn't play at all because another color completely controlled the map and would mob you as soon as you left your base.
With One Tamriel I find duelling is quite a bit more enjoyable for me than Cyrodil or IC, it's a bit ironic that low level dueling is often funner than max level dueling because there aren't that many people with 8th level characters sporting legendary instadeath "proc set" builds. So I actually enjoy. dueling on my lower level characters than my.
So I guess I see ahead of me a lot of grinding for gear in order to survive / compete in the world of proc set builds and macro buttons, or just re-roll a few lowbie characters for dueling. Or finding another game. Tonight I decided to fork out the $95 for the Elder Scrolls Anthology. That should be entertaining for 6 months to a year.
I don't think I'll "quit" ESO, but I'm definitely finding it difficult to get motivated to do more than log in and just goof around on a low level character with newbies next to a wayshrine.
If you are over CP350, what keeps you going / motivated?
PS For the inevitable "Can I have your stuff" responses - sure send me a decent quote (in game) for crafting mats and I'll send what I got to you COD plus postage. That's another thing - is there any point in crafting stuff except for training?
