Anyway it doesn't matter whether crown crate are introduced or not I will still be on eso. Too much time has been spent playing the game to simply walk away because of an item is in the store that doesn't affect me personally.
@Sigma957: I suggest reading up on the sunk cost fallacy re: time spent. And as others have noted, we're already suffering the effects of the Crown Crates - things Zeni could have released directly are being held back for the Crates, dev time was spent making the animation and assets for them instead of doing the same for, say, Vvardenfell.#proud2BAStarObsessedLoony

It could just be luck, but out of 13 crates per day, I usually get a few riding lessons.

I only have three characters, but none of them are Argonian. So it certainly doesn't look at character slots if there are still some free ones. Yep. They do. So do the khajiit markings with no khajiit characters. On the pts, I made two new cp 300 template characters. Neither one is argonian or khajiit. No other characters.
And the frills/horns/paint jobs are exclusive/collectible, so no trading them, even though you have no characters that can use them and don't plan on ever making one that can.
I got most of the gems I have for dups of hats, rooster frills/whatever they're called for argonians, and khajiit paint jobs.
I guess I should be happy, because on the pts I finally managed to get enough gems to buy the clouded leopard senche that I want. And it only took 6 days of buying 5500 crowns worth of crated a day to do it. So, how much would that have been in dollars? The black maned lion is in the crates, too. And maybe they'll bring back the leopard leopard senche that I want. Gee...maybe if I play the real life real world lottery and hit the multi-million dollar prize I could start gambling again to get the mounts I want..... Yeah, no.
Like my earlier post, and what Mercutio posted @ZOS_GinaBruno [https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/3390189/#Comment_3390189], offer the items for sale, whether at the same time, or at a later date. Let the people who want to take a chance at getting a 2500 or 5000 crown mount for 400 get their chance.
Let the people who don't want to gamble or buy the "consumables" in the crates that are being sold as crates of consumables we don't want buy the items we do want outright, even if its at a later date. ZOS has people who sub and want to give them more money. I know that money will drop by one if the crates go into the game, even with the "trade back the consumables" bait you said was being considered. "Considered", not guaranteed to happen. While I'm wishing; open the option of trading items you don't want and wouldn't buy; I got one of the atronach mounts. Good thing its on the pts, cause I'll never use it. I don't like them. Of course it is permanently bound to my account until you wipe the pts again......1 -

- 12x normal crown XP scrolls that I can use, but wouldn't buy
- 9x crown soul gems that I can use, but wouldn't buy
- 5x crown repair kits that I can use, but wouldn't buy
- 13x riding lessons that I can use, but wouldn't buy
- 1x lion mount that I might use, but wouldn't buy
- 7x costumes I won't use
- 5x hats I won't use
- 2x hair styles I won't use
- 1x argonian facial accessory I won't use
- 1x body marking I won't use
- 2x mementos I won't use
- 8x pets I won't use
- 7x crown food I won't use
- 13x crown drinks I won't use
- 775x crown potions I won't use
- 625x crown poisons I won't use
So, I could buy 4 things out of the Legendary Rewards category for an average cost of around $66 each, or about 9000 crowns.
To get a handle on the "value" of this, imagine if the gambling game were completely removed and replaced with a typical crown store limited edition "bundle". Here's what they are essentially offering (assuming you don't want to blow >$260 on a single apex mount, which would be really dumb):- bundle price: 9000 crowns
- legendary reward mount or pet that you really like
- 1x random mount
- 2x random pets
- 150x assorted mediocre potions
- 200x mediocre poisons,
- 1x repair kit
- 3x xp scrolls
- 3x random riding lessons
- 2x soul gems
- 3x mediocre drinks
- 2x mediocre food
- 1x random accessory, hair style, or body marking
- 1x random hat
- 2x random costumes

The only crown store consumables I would use at all are experience scrolls, soul gems and riding lessons, the other consumables are utter ***... and from reading this post, it seems nothing but consumables are thrown at peoples faces.

✭✭Oh, something else I noticed. I got a duplicate Rosy Netch Calf (100 gems) yesterday, and it gave me 33 crown gems. So the good news is, the duplicate gem returns aren't pegged at 5. The bad news is, the return rate gets even worse as you go up to higher tiers.
Edit: No, the rate isn't worse, I just have a bad memory. The low tier items cost 16 gems, so 5/16 is about the same 1/3 ratio that the legendary tier gives. I thought so too at first, but I got a couple of consumable-only crates and there were some reports of consumable-only crates too.
It seems that there is a very high chance for a collectible, but it is not an 100% guarantee.Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

MadLarkin✭✭✭✭I finally had a few minutes on the PTS and I gave the crown crates a go. In another thread, I had said I simply wouldn't buy any. Not because there wasn't anything I wanted in them, but because I didn't care one way or the other if they existed. I understand why Zos wants to implement them, but I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with the idea. It's a low quality way of tempting people to spend instead of a quality offering that inspires people to spend in support of the game.
So, having bought the crates I noticed the new icon on the UI. Strike one. You're changing UI elements to support something you know people are upset about. Now, instead of opening the store and seeing the crates, it's there winking at us. A simple container in your inventory would have been in better taste, but good taste is being flung out the window.
Upon using the icon, beloved Pacrooti is being used in a cut scene to make my 400 crowns feel like they were spent on something awesome. Nope. A bunch of consumables and a pet I didn't buy before because I didn't want it. Unlike all of the other pets I have bought because I wanted them and I felt them worth the crowns. Strike two.
It pulled me out of the game and into a mini game. You've taken suggestions we've made on the forums for months or even years. "Why no mini games?" "Could we have gambling in-game, dice or cards?" "When will Pacrooti be back?" Strike three. Using suggestions that were and are intended for the honest game. The real game. Mini games, card games and most of all Pacrooti were never intended to be twisted and perverted like this. Strike three.
You want me to buy stuff? Ok, I will. I'll buy a costume or a mount that I can see. I've done it plenty of times already! I won't buy a crown crate though. There is nothing you can ever put in one that will make me subject myself to the sad, depressing reminder of how you took our suggestions and twisted them. I don't care about gems or mounts, there's nothing I want that if I can't buy it outright, that would make me open that pandering cut screen again.
Considering that we know development is about two years out, i.e., static game elements that showed up two years before actual live release, has this also been in the works since 2014? The sub that became buy to play, then the crates which may get better consumables, despite the assurance that crown items would never be better than crafted? You guys aren't even being subtle.
All of this. This entire system reeks of greed, but more importantly, indicates a shift in focus and priorities, and that is the potential downfall right there.
Of course the exchange rate for gems is garbage, just as I predicted. I've already seen all of this with STO. Getting 1-2 Lobi Crystals per box and it costs 900 to buy the items people actually want. But, at least with STO, you can grind dilithium and exchange it for Zen (crowns) or save up energy credits (gold) and buy items off of the exchange. I've finally leveled up my crafting schools and can make 3 Million per day easily just selling tech upgrades, and I'm pretty casual.
I dread the future of ESO focusing on cramming more exclusive items into these crates. Housing is coming next year. I'm sure the desirable furniture and the like will be in these crates. This is going to do little more than mute or outright destroy people's enthusiasm for new gameplay features. The content itself is what is supposed to keep people playing and encourage them to open their wallet. If I was able to buy a house in-game for gold and the mechanics were reasonable and fair, it would make me want to buy items from the crown store to supplement that. What is more likely to happen is we will get a barebones housing option that will feel incomplete unless we gamble our lives away on these crates or spend an inordinate amount in the crown store.4 -

They one example I've seen is where they got a higher quality exp scroll instead.
Edit: There was a screen shot, but I can't remember what thread it was in.

Pretty sure there's a collectible in every crate
Nope, I've got a few crates with no collectibles and so have others. It happens rarely, but it does happen.
I hate to be negative nancy on this, as I don't like crown crates either, but has anyone taken a video or a screenshot of getting 0 collectibles?
The Cards never showed up on screen so I had to wait until I exited and saw the loot drop.
They 5 gems indicates you got a duplicate blue collectable though. I did find the actual post in this thread, page 16, @MissBizz
Day 4 - No Storm Atro mounts today. Zero mounts at all, in fact. Got 66 gems this time around, and I managed to also get a storm atro transformation (didn't want it, but whatever) and got pretty much I felt was worth collecting. No 5th bonus cards in 13 crates.
Once again, got a hand which had NO collectables, but this time I took a screenshot. Instead of a collectable I got a 150% XP scroll. So, the scroll counts and replaces you ability to get a collectable. No, ZOS. DO NOT REPLACE COLLECTABLES WITH XP SCROLLS. Seriously. Please, for the love of Jone and Jode, don't do it. I'm at 772 CP right now. Do you know what more XP does for me? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. In fact, it's almost insulting to get MORE XP as I can't even use all the XP I've gotten so far. But hey, I got 15 potions which are of no use to me.
All in all, in 4 days, spending all the free crowns (eqv. to $160) I've only got one storm atro mount. This makes me really, REALLY unhappy.
