I would only do that if it's the very last two upgrades, doing it for the lower ranks is just folly.
Why is it folly to upgrade your bank slots with a lower level char?
It's account wide,so it is there for all characters. It isnt folly at all.Just preference.I prefer to pay 1000 crowns to upgrade my bank rather than to pay constantly raised pricing to do it ingame.I mean,at one point I had to pay 50,000g for just 10 slots. And that's a bit much for me.I did pay it due to not having any crowns at the moment, but I wont pay the even higher price next time. So,it's crown upgrades for me.
So you would pay 1000 Crowns when the bank upgrade costs 3300g?
Yes,because it is cheaper.Ingame, you dont pay just 33000 in gold.It keeps going up for every time you buy 10 slots. At first,it's 400g,then 2000g,then more and more as you go. I just paid 50,000 gold for my latest upgrade, but I really needed it for some things I want to keep.I didnt happen to have any more crowns at the time,so I just paid it ingame. I wont do it again.
If they're short of 5000 crowns I'll be surprised. More likely 10k per knowing ZOS.
I have bought the last few upgrades as well when bank account expansions were on sale - just for convenience reasons. It takes quite some time for a low level character to get that gold for the last few expansions. And time to play is a rare resource for me, so I used the offer of the sale - for bank space only.

2,500 crowns is roughly $25. $25 can get you another copy of the entire game that comes with it's own 8 character slots. If a single character slot costs as much as the entire game these days, I won't buy any. I might even leave the game and spend my $25 on a game that doesn't treat me like a human pez dispenser, spitting up money.
OP has the right of it. These need to be affordable to appeal to impulse buyers, roleplayers, casual players, etc. If they make them extra expensive to curtail the people who might buy them for more mules, those people will still drop the money but on a new copy of the game. The aforementioned demographs will simply not buy them at all. Missed opportunity imo.

Continued greed can even cause, what you gave as an option as well - they might just not want to stay with the game, screw it, not spend any more time and money on this. This can happen, if they continue to p*iss off people with greed. I love the elder scrolls, but I do not have to play this game, I can play the other TES games more than I do now as well. Or spend my time with Fallout 4 or EVE or start playing the Witcher 3. I am sick and tired to have to deal with greed over and over again, there is a time, when I will just have enough of it and then I will just go and never look back.
Edit: I have done so with Archeage. Not because the game would be that bad, but because I was sick and tired of the incompetence and greediness of Trion.

Price of character slots in other MMO's I've played for comparison:
SWTOR - $6.60~
EQ2 - $10
GW2 - $10
Wildstar - <$5
Neverwinter - 2 slots for $5

This is what happened to me with STO. I loved the game, and for a long time I owned every ship in the game. Then they just went off the reservation. I'm convinced at this point that perfect world is a predatorily greedy company looking to bilk addicts for their weekly check, that or something more sinister like a Triad funded company used to launder their ill gotten cash. It is not that I can't afford the game, or even to pay a significant portion for the game, I just don't see any reason to do so. There's definitely a healthy balance. If it costs me more to play an MMO in one year than I would spend living it up for 2 weeks in Tahiti, the MMO probably isn't worth it.
With regard to standalone games, thanks to Steam Sales I'm loaded up on thousands of hours of games that I'll probably never get to, but they all look really cool. Its not like I don't have plenty of content to enjoy, in or out of an MMO. I think this factor is what a lot of developers are missing out on. There needs to be a healthy balance between selling the kitschy stuff, and just price gouging the hell out of the consumer over nonsense. I do think the DLC's are worth something though and they deserve to be paid for producing content, in fact that is probably the most important thing a game developer should be paid for. The other side of it is keeping the game fun and balanced. If they could just add in some longterm sandbox elements akin to SWG I'd also be really happy. I know they'll never be as open as a game like Eve online, but I really think there are ways they could offer us Vestiges some sandboxes with value.

I'm thinking of buying a second account but I was wondering... Is there a legit website that sells the digital download keys for as low as that? Amazon, greenmangaming, ESO store, Gamespot, Steam all sell for 59.99. I'm surprised it still sells for the price of when it was brand new...I expected it to drop in price like most games do by now.
I'm sure I can find the physical copy for low price but I was just wondering if I can just get digital keys somewhere legit for a low price, I did some searching through google and not having luck with trustworthy sites.
I can't even be bothered to level a second character...How can some of you do this 8 times?! What keeps you going?
You can get it for [snip] from G2A. Or wait for a good sale elsewhere (probably still $20 or more though).
