Well, that couldn't have been very tight competition.

This has to be some kind of sick joke or pribery.
Well, lets looks at some info:

    - MMORPG.com does nothing but; play MMO's (for a living mind you).
    - They inspect, dissect, rate, and report on the major and minor MMO's on the market.
    - They report on and inform Gamers (like you and me) of what's going on in, changing in, and starting or ending in the MMORPG genre.
    - So after an untold amount of hours playing, interviewing developers and the movers-and-shakers of the MMO genre, they've decided that ESO was the top MMORPG of 2015.
    - They placed all of the info they have about ESO (it's changes, updates, releases, etc.) against the most massive (and popular) MMO's on the market right now.
    - In their professional opnions, they decided that The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited has had the best year out of all of them. The changes made, the DLC released, the updates applied; all of those were done better, received better by the community, and made ESO a better game than the other "big dogs" on the block so far this year.
    - That means that in their professional opinions, ESO had a better 2015 than: WoW, GW2, FFXVI: ARR, Wildstar, etc.

While it's perfectly fine for you to disagree with MMORPG.com's opinion on the matter, let's not forget that they spend infinitely more time playing, studying, and following what's going on in the MMO industry than any of us. Rating these games is not just their profession, but they probably also have sincere passions for this genre.

So before you get too involved in brushing aside the opinion of this online magazine, they've made a profession out of making MMO's their world.

Also, their opinion does carry heft in this industry. MMORPG.com is not a small time OP ED site or blog.

Congrats ZOS, even though I sometimes leave honest opinions, It is still about the only game I play now.

As for all of the lag in Cyrodiil I have a thought about that one. I tried out Cyrodiil again last weekend during prime time. I got with a group of about 20 and we took several keeps and resources, also returned a scroll before I logged off. I never once experienced any lag. I did get a few frame drops to 30 fps or so in real active combat (more than likely hardware and all the effects), but no lag.

Yes I'm coming to ZOS's defense on a lot of the problems.

So here is my idea/theory - maybe some of the folks should quit using all of their automatic gizmos (like macro weaving and macro combo hit lists and bar/skill swaps, whatever) and play the game like it was meant to be played (with skill and reflexes) instead of flooding the server with inputs. I've watched the videos, I know a macro when I see one, folks should start paying attention to the bars instead of the tactics in some of those and you will see all the evidence you need

No not everyone does this, only the pretenders. (Note ZOS: Angry feedback = Macro/exploit watch list)

Back to point, Congrats again ZOS , well deserved. Hope to see years to come.

A big high five to the ZOS team for the award and recognition. You have done a lot of work this year, and still more to be done. But I'm glad to see you are heading in the right direction. I think your free weekend will be a bit busy. Hope the servers can handle it :)

So "Best MMO" this year translates to "Most Improved" and with this in mind I agree that ESO earned it. The game was such a hot mess at launch that they only had upward to go!

That said I do believe that ZOS has earned this award and even though there is much, much more they need to do to recover and keep their player base They have worked and delivered some great content and improvements to the game so far......

HERE'S LOOKING TO 2016 to be a turning point for the game!

Lol, yeah, I can imagine how much time they spent e.g. playing the IC, if it came out on August 31st and a review on September 9th.

MMOs are mostly about which one improves the most, they never release as perfect products, far from that.
However ESO was far from a disaster at launch some would like to believe. I was here at launch and it had one of the best MMO launches. WoD released the same year and it was a total disaster, couldn't log in for 2 weeks. I played ESO from day 1 with no lag or crashes, however there were some quests bugged, most of them could be fixed just by relogging.

Either way ESO was voted best MMORPG in 2014 too. So this is 2nd year straight now.

Yeah, it often amuses me how people will say something about ESO and why they don't like it, and the reason they don't like it is just as bad if not worse in their favorite game. XD

Congrats ZOS on the award! Hopefully things keep chugging forward in 2016!

    Grats Zenimax!

That's a great commendation from a leader in the MMO News and reviews industry. And in many ways, it's deserved. The game has come a very long way from its beginnings.

Now, to keep things humble, I would have to add this: It's only come a long ways due to the fact that it had a long ways to go. It certainly didn't start out well, and in my personal experience was one of the largest release flops outside of Wildstar and Diablo 3 (and D3 was flopping for very different reasons, Wildstar is a better comparison).

So while they certainly have come a long way, it's as much due to where they started as to how far they've come. GW2, as an example, has improved in many ways, but since it has been around longer, it didn't fit that bill this year. it certainly had some stumbling blocks early on, but in 2015, it was a well polished game, so the expansion only added to that.

ESO was in a harsh place. rejected by many of the dedicated ES series fans, and rejected by many MMO mainstreamers as well, it had some big hurdles to overcome. The fact that it did so and still stands out as a good game is really why Zenimax deserves the commendations. They listened to the players (overall...I'm sure there are those with very different opinions then the market as a whole), and turned many things around.

Looking forward to continued changes in the same direction for 2016.

I have played other MMOs and never got into them. Too much, grind, I guess, but also not enough meat either. ESO is not perfect, but it is a great game. It was good at launch, and it has gotten better. Otherwise I would not be playing it two plus years on. Are there some problems still? Yes, but they mostly don't affect me as I don't PvP. I hope they get the performance issues sorted in Cyrodiil so those folks can have more fun.

Do I wish there was more content? Yes. Do I wish there was more End Game content that was not PvP? Yes. Do I wish there were more viable paths after reaching VR1? Yes. Although, those complaining about the grind to VR16 really don't have that much to complain about as we don't have to get 10,000,000 exp points anymore to gain VR11 to VR12 like we used to. I think the current developer leads are not so much into forcing people to play the way they want, so once we get some more of those decisions tossed aside (change the 12/24 hour hireling timers to 10/20, grind spots not being nerfed into uselessness, more character slots, crafting bags, making it not such a pain in the butt to get into Cyrodiil for IC, etc) then the game will be much better. I still need to see what the Champ System is going to do to the game.

However Wrothgar has given me hope that the new direction of ZOS is a good one and they need to stay on that path.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
