Is ESO PVP dying?

Although the lag can get frustrating, PvP in this game is a blast. Azura has been the most balanced campaign we have had in a long time and the map is constantly changing. Hell at one point last night AD had the DC scroll gate open while DC had the AD scroll gate open. It was beautiful chaos in motion, as PvP should be. There were a lot of big groups and great fights to be had last night. A few epic battles at Chalman and Aleswell with the reds, and the same at Ash and Roebeck with the yellows. The way we were taking keeps from each other was like a chess match.

Then again, there was a full group of reds trying to jump their way into Fort Aleswell after being wiped on the outer breach three times. Shame on you, you can't even exploit very well.

As much as I wish it wasn't so...the reality is hard to ignore.

I only played IC an hour or two and found that the PvP wasn't nearly as fun, and then there was the crashes that were so bad I couldn't log back into cyrodiil. I'm not throwing in the towel, I hope they get it fixed but if history is teaches us anything it is that ZoS has never really fixed issues pointed out in PTS...only some of the major crashes.

With the Imperial City DLC, PVP will revive. I've never seen so many people on the PTS before.

The IC is by far the best addition made to the game. Zenimax really made a great job.

I would say it depends on what you want out of your PVP experience.

I voted Yes because I never really liked the vast map of Cyrodiil in the first place or why it was open 24/7. Imperial City seems like it might work for a bit, but I feel it will die down and become a wasteland in a few months, too.

I think PVP as we understand it is dying. After playing in the IC, I've got to say there was a lot more cooperation between the factions than I expected. Those bosses are pretty difficult for non-PVErs, and going in with PVE gear will most likely get you killed. So there is a big balance between players. The TTK increase has forced cooperation to take down decent players and the "release" revive system has you back in the fight in seconds. The reward/loss system is interesting and is a lot like gambling. Sure you might be a good player, but a NB kiting a boss to you and picking you off when you're low health means a loss of your precious stones. Surviving groups is easier with all the buildings and ground cover; I've lost quite a few players by ducking under staircases. Then there are the safe zones in which you can see and be near enemy players, but both are protected as long as you are in the area.

    It's a different game.

There is no doubt there is a population of ESO that are the hardcore "gaming is life", "elitist" crowd.

You guys run around cyrodiil "winning" in a game that feeds you mostly inexperienced players. Inexperienced players who are further, not on comms, didn't have a guild buddy craft gear and pots etc, and the list goes on and on. You'll sit in a tower with all your gear, champ points, and resources, spamming all you got, dropping caltrops, and killing the unfortunate that enter. You seem to love it and get a great kick out of it. And do you all know what the punchline is here? IT'S THAT YOU CONSIDER YOURSELVES ELITE! Let's all lol in unison.

So let's get to the poll. Clown guilds with immense advantages over the General cyrodiil population before any skill comes into play farming an inexperienced general enemy player base, all the class balancing and exploits that need to be sewn up, the lag, etc, etc.
    ]mumble, mumble, mumble, grumble

Yeah, I go to take keep and outposts and that's where you will find a battle. I am not in a guild or am running in a organized group.

    Battle is hard and exhausting.

You're the easiest player to kill in this game. I understand why you rage man.

I actually don't care about how many times I die or my score, if you were in DC chat. I think the more accurate thing to say is many of you reds and yellows definitely do care. Obsessively care even. And that is the joke.

I know it sounds pretty silly, and it might be an isolated case that only I'm experiencing, but I've seen DC and AD fighting it out before one of them aggroed the lich boss, it was only a moment before they were working together (only 5 of them, 2 AD 3 DC--one AD just cloaked an ran off) to take the guy down. After the battle they /cheered and went about playing.

Other times there have been a significant number of one faction in a district and, because it's such an tight area, they end up eliminating the apparent threat. Less impacting were the friends who helped each other accumulate Tel Var stones.

If the question was, "Is PC NA ESO PvP Dieng" then of course the answer is yes. It's been on it's deathbed for months (3-6).

When the entirety of a NA PC pvp presence is locking only two (twice pop cap nerfed) campaigns in prime with a rotating pvp presence that escalates one through 2 other campaigns at med - high occasionally is all you have to show for it, then yes pvp is dying.

When you can count the pvp guilds left in the game for each faction on one hand, then yes pvp is dying.

When the only change to pvp for a year and a half is shoddy class nerfs at failed attempted class balancing and the removal of pvp features (camps, mercenaries, twice campaign pops, campaigns, etc.), then yes pvp is dying.

When it takes a year and a half for the first pvp content to be released, then yes pvp is dying.

If that first pvp content after a year and a half comes on the back of 6-9 months of ever increasing lag issues with no fix in sight or even acceptance of the blame by ZOS, then yes pvp is dying.

Math is hard, can someone do It for me?

Top 10 reasons for my vote

    1. Lag is still as bad as it has ever been, 12 months after it was first reported, despite the obvious drop in player count
    2. Soft cap removal made builds absolutely silly and cookie cutter, you either slot skills 1, 2, 3 on toon X, Y, Z and play it like a robot, or youre not "competitive"
    3. Guesting zergblobs ruining otherwise competitive campaigns
    4. Emp farming is still a thing
    5. Blatant bugs and exploits still being used to this day, the meta literally follows the fotm exploit/bug, this last bit of recent time its been dual mace steel tornado BS.
    6. We havent seen any meaningful change to PvP in nearly 2 years (counting beta)
    7. Most of the good players are long gone
    8. You still have to PvE to get stuff needed for competitive PvP for most builds
    9. Everything is a mindless grind once you get past AR24
    10. Still no arena/small group maps

It's kinda funny. What I see is older players who don't like change or can't change as the metas change say pvp is dying. Kinda like all the Dks said the game sucked after they were nerfed.

Don't these people see all the new names around them daily? Sometimes you have to slow down and look. There are way more people out there than that guy you always kill or your rival.

I made a new build a few days ago. 1 1/2 years into the game and I'm still coming up with new ways to kill. For me and a lot others that's why eso pvp is special. There's nothing like it on the market. ESO pvp ain't going anywhere anytime soon. You might be lol not ESO pvp though.

I see new names sometimes, but I also see that even after lowering pop caps and doing away with most of the campaigns, the remaining campaigns are still far emptier than they used to be.
That seems to imply that ESO is not picking up enough new players to replace all those leaving.

From the posts so far in this thread, no one who has posted appears to be against change at all. For an online game to continue to run it constantly needs to reinvent itself (which it has to a certain extent with Tamriel Unlimited). That being said there have been ongoing issues in the PvP landscape (see previous posts) which have not been addressed which have turned many people away from the game especially those who came back under the B2P model.

Change is fine, but fixes are desperately needed to fix the ongoing current problems.

Performance. There are too many other games w PVP out there that I can play without having to deal with poor server infrastructure. So, why would I play this?
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.

    I haven't decided yet / I have hope
Used to spend 100% of my game time in PvP, now I sometimes wander in Belkarth like a lost soul, searching for answers...

It takes way too much time to find small scale PvP atm, it's discouraging... And when you find some, you usually get overrun by a zerg, or a friendly zerg comes and ruins the fight. You can also get instagibbed, because hey : why should I have an interesting fight with an opponent and defeat him through superior skill, when I can oneshot him from stealth and grab my hard earned AP lolz

IC looks promising, but I have little faith in the players of this game, who have a tendency to look for safety in numbers and zerg all day.

The two go hand in hand. Fast kills are critical for a solo'er because one of two things will happen, your zerg will roll him or his zerg will steal your AP. You would see less pure dps ganking builds too if less people thought it was "skill" to perma-block while spamming heals/bubble waiting for their iWin ult/dps combos.

Just saying, the evolution is driven from both ends of the spectrum.

Hard to say. The game launched last year with many more campaigns, and they were cut back. The console boom has meant more non-vet campaigns to handle the interest there, and it's still "new" to many console players, so check back on how PvP is doing for consoles in December when it's not as new and the IC hype has died down.

PC-NA is also seeing a boost on PTS for console hype and major changes to PvP mechanics/some class skills, so again, check back in December. How full are the campaigns? Are there couple of "IC buff" servers and only one or two campaigns doing competitive AvA? Or is AvA thriving in all campaigns? I don't know that PvP will die as long as ESO is operational, but it could slip into a coma.
