This is something I can support fully.
So I love how they tried to justify not having text chat on console on a previous eso live (Episode 16) and from watching them you can't help but believe that they almost believe that its a bad idea not to have it as well lol
It starts at 1 hr 5 min and 42 secondshttps://youtu.be/5N17KZ_ZCK0?t=1h5m42s

If I can change a couple and display them, why not just give full text chat? It would just make it cumbersome to hold a conversation with another person via text because you'd have to constantly go back and edit your emotes.
Hiero_Glyph wrote: »The justification they give is hilarious because no one uses a laptop or wireless keyboard while sitting on the couch, right? Also note that they repeatedly say there will be no text chat 'at lauch'. At least that leaves some hope this decision can be reverted later.
...... I use keyboard in Neverwinter all the time when I play it.
Are all anti-text chatters getting this transparent with their lies, or is this a standout? Anyone can go on an Xbox One and prove that wrong just by using the Xbox One's built in internet browser with a keyboard.

Yes, text chat makes running in PUGs so much more effective, for example:
Me: Hi. How's it goin'?
(Nothing)
Me: Um... Hi. How's it goin'?
(A couple minutes pass. Nobody types a word. DPS gets impatient and pulls a whole room while the tank seems to be afk)
Person 1: HEAL ME!!!
Person 1: HEAL ME!!!
Person 1: HEAL ME!!!
Person 2: y u so bad bro
Person 1: worst grp evr u guys suck
Person 4: OMGWTFBBQ
(Group wipes. DPS rage quits. The tank is still afk.)
I support text chat ESO, but a PUG will always be a PUG.
Using something they already have in game, I think having the quick chat emotes customizable would help drastically. As of right now, there are hardly any of them that I use. If we can customize some of them to say what we are more likely to say at least, I believe that would solve some of the problems.
Example: last night, I was in front of city of ash door. I was in a group with one other and noticed that there were 2 more people standing around. Apparently they were grouped together and I tried to communicate to them that we should merge our groups. I got on the mic and asked if they wanted to merge parties. No answer. Asked again. Nothing. Then I tried quick chat for "group up". Nothing. That's when I found 2 stragglers walking around and invited them. As we were walking in, one of them finally response with the "yes" emote. And the entire time I was on mic and everything else, they were jumping and slashing and all. Just couldn't invite them cuz it stated that they were already in a party.
I think if we had customizable quick chat, I would've put something like "looking for a group" at least. That'll let everyone else know that I need a party. Some of the quick chat are utterly useless to use, like the self congratulate one. Just shows off your e-peen, especially with a pug, even if u meant it jokingly.
Also made me laugh cause really your reason is cause people playing on couch?

yo man, I heard there was this new invention out that people put in front of there couch, I hear it's amazing and revolutionary. Also good for Coffee.
Proof.
Considering they only are allowing new threads about it because they had to lock the old thread due to users making constantly derogatory remarks to other users, I don't find the general reason for it good.Mighty_oakk wrote: »Maybe they will say something at the QnA tomorrow about it. The fact that they are allowing new threads and polls on the subject is positive atleast.
Hopefully they were just putting off addressing it until IC was close to ready.
But I'm not holding my breath

an emote isn't for a complete conversation...the emote is to queue an interaction.
Remember, I'm not for text chat overall. The customized radial chat to me is very ideal and would possibly allow up to 8 diff customized pre-set options with the ability to change on the fly but the point of the emote is to queue a behavior, interaction or voice conversation.
Its not meant to replace voice chat but it could serve to alleviate issues brought up by those who do want a full blown text chat box and zone chat as well.
I'm a PC user so this really doesn't affect me but I see no valid reason why ZOS shouldn't add text chat for the console users. And I really don't understand the people that vote against it. It's not like anyone would be holding a gun to your head forching you to use it. ZOS could easily make it an option.

I have been playing this game since Early Closed Beta. From then until about 5 or 6 months after launch, I never used Text Chat. I also did not join any Guilds and only sold to in game vendors. I played this game about as Solo as you can play it, only Ad Hoc Grouping (where you tend to run with someone without being grouped with them). I was not into the Social Aspect of it at all.
However once I got the idea in my head that interacting with the other players might have some benefit and could be fun, I dove into Text Chat full bore and now I have friends all over the place in the game, became a recruiter for a guild I am in and have found some nice bargains in zone chat, and was able to swap some Ambrosia Fragments for what i needed to get my recipe. I can respond to and help a guild mate with some difficult content, I can ask for help. This is nothing that anyone does not know, it is just illustrating my changing view on socializing in an MMO.
I was never against Text Chat, it was just something I did not feel the need to use at first. However, my mom has this game now for the PS4, she is 72, and I was watching her play the game and showing a few pointers. All the time the area voice chat was going on. I could not make heads or tails of what was being said. I can not figure out how I would sell something to the zone, or ask for help, or talk to a Guild Mate about something with the Voice chat that is in place now. This is not from anyone being rude or something, just a babble of voices with no clear direction as to who said what. Even if I had happened to over hear someone who needed something or was selling something how would I find them? Give a shout out? Who would respond? The one I wanted or someone else for good or nefarious reasons?
As for being in the thick of things and then trying to type in a message, no, you can't. I can't on the PC, I would not expect anyone on the consoles to do that either. Even the Quick Chat method has some limitations, but can suffice for the few things that do need to be said in a battle. However we are not always in a battle, sometimes we stop our character in a safe place and say what we need to say. Or I am in a town and have all the time in the world to compose a message.
This game, and any MMO really, needs a way to have a target conversation with some or all the people in a zone or area, as someone sees fit. Without it, the game can never what it was intended to be, TES with Friends. Even if one does not use it, it can, or should be able to be, hidden so it will never bother you.
Also, Voice Chat is really makes Groups better. It might be fun for other things, but having run groups while on Team Speak and running groups not being on TS, I would have to say that Voice makes grouping better, but Text Chat is how you find that group.
TL/DR Both Platforms need Voice Chat, for Groups, and both platforms need Text Chat for everything else. Area Chat? I could do without that myself, but I can see how others would like it. I would certainly turn off AC on my game.
