Are you stupid or just can't read what I said is that it would take a complete redesign of the UI which would take time to reimplement. How are you coming to the conclusion that its to hard from my post? What I said is you don't understand game design and you can't just copy and paste a text box in the game out of no where it takes time.ZOS made a design not to implement it and I agree with them ts not needed you can do everything in the game without text chat you all just choice not to use it.its not ZOS fault your anti-social and don't want to talk to people like normal human beings

ahhh yes of course resorting to condescending insults already.

Did you not hear what I said? They shouldn't have taken it out in the first place then. Regardless it was a BAD design choice. There first priority should of been Implementing chat and damage numbers.

You can do everything in the game without TEXT chat yes, but TEXT chat is there because of CONVENIENCE, you can have a crappy LFG system and a Chat system would still be a good substitute, this and Text Chats are good for people who like to RP in MMO's, Text chats are good for so many other things.
its not ZOS fault your anti-social and don't want to talk to people like normal human beings

Ahh yes because trying to talk over 10-20 other people in the same area is ANTI SOCIAL and NOT ANNOYING AT ALL. Escpecially when they didn't even implement a "PUSH TO TALK" button like most PC games have to prevent MIC SPAM.
Like you said its a no brainer because those two games waited until the last day to add chat text to their games its so easy a monkey can do it.
    LOL
Its not not at all to add a chat box to a game UI that's already being used.So unless your a game designer or at least no one don't make assumptions that you have no way to back up.
Are you suggesting you're a Triple A game designer? Guess what Video Game critics and movie critics don't need to be video game designers or movie directors to understand when a game is badly designed.

Text chat is already in there, it's just not enabled. This entire statement is wrong.

Where is it because I play it everyday and I haven't seen a text box.

I bolded a part of his quote. Let's read that again shall we?

OK then tell me how to enable it good sir?

    Eurgh... ZENIMAX disabled it!

We aren't even sure if it was every enabled in the first place. All we know for sure is that it was planned to be implemented but the design team thought it wasn't needed.

It's lurking in the game's files, waiting for somebody to re-enable it.

You can't. ZOS can. Hence the reason for this thread.

Actually, we are sure, as it was enabled during PTS and it was tested and re-iterated upon a few times before they decided to go VOIP-only. You can't test something that you never enabled.

However, I have no idea what you are sure of. You seem to be sure of a lot of incorrect things here lately.

Do u want money ZOS. I'll donate 100 bucks. Just take it and release Text Chat.
I've already stated numerous times to ZoS that I refuse to buy any crowns or ESO Plus until text chat comes to consoles (no DLC for me in the meantime), and once/if it does the first thing I will do is buy $100 worth of crowns. They truly seem to not care. It's just not enough to have them notice. Now, if you went to $10,000 worth of crowns......
One can only hope text chat will be addressed today on ESO Live, fingers crossed.
Nope, it'll be all about the Tel Var Stone system.
    -

They probably don't care because it won't exactly be a loss for them that they'll be worried about .. they have most likely had discussions etc of how many will leave due to x changes vs how many will actually join because of the changes, cost of changes vs what they'll get back from it

The vote with your sub route was a lost cause before it was started as it'd take a HUGE number of players leaving
ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing

I really Hope they come to there senses and finally implement some basic principles they left out, like text chat. I have a feeling they are going to do something like the final fantasy mmo did where they did a complete overhaul, a 2.0 in a sense... I think I would be happy if they at least added text chat. I have so many friends that started playing the game just to stop because they are tired of hearing people dominate chat... :-( its sad to watch a ship go down in flames due to ignorance when people are telling them what they are doing wrong.

Well, that would depend on the code they used to disable it in the first place. I can't do anything. The point of this thread is that ZOS can. And, as stated already in this thread as I am coming back a little late, text chat was enabled, tested, and worked on on the PTS. It exists in the code.

Because nobody who had actually honestly read all of the posts where people have explained their reasons would come away with the idea that it's about being anti-social. Nor would they come away with the idea that voice chat is a solution to the issues raised in this thread.

So, you have not read each and every post in this thread.

I wonder that too. I tried creating a Poll about text chat a few weeks back, but as soon as people started posting on it ZOS took it down :( It would be great to see where the numbers stand now that the game has been out for awhile now.

Soooo if you prefer text chat, buy for PC
If you prefer voice chat n controller, buy for console.

    It's that simple
Thcertain hank you for t. Os precious advice - I wasn't able to assess my buying options till now.

By the way, your contribution to this thread stopped being insightful after your 50th or so post. No need to continue repeating things you've already said many times - I've already read and evaluated your thoughts on the matter. Of course, If you have something new to add, I'd try to take it into account.

    - - -

TL;DR: It should have become pretty obvious by now that the console version of this game simply doesn't work as intended without text chat. Core MMORPG features such as guilds, grouping, PvP coordination, trading, even roleplaying - all of them suffer due to poor player communication options.
Every pro text chat post is same as well and its all the same people repeating the same thing.

You have no right to tell anyone not to post.

You just told him he was repeating himself and then you parrotted back the same old text argument.

I think this thread could be five posts long.

    First post,
We need text chat for guild trading, grouping handicap access, roleplaying, keeping up with guild mates, long descriptions of rp character background, typing narration, it of course HAS to be collapsible. Coordinating seiges in PvP.

    Second post,

Nooooo text spam is annoying and voice chat is fine, and its introduction may introduce lag, easier world wide trading would open the doors for gold farm bots to sell their wares. on PC, the keyboard is a staple and ready at hand, on the console the keyboard is a clunky peripheral. Friending a person who only text chats could be distracting especially in dungeons.

    Third post,
Something mean and dismissive about the anti text crowd.

    Fourth post,

Something mean and dismissive about the anti text crowd.

    Fifth post,

Zos comments officially and ends the debate.

  • HeardsTheWord
Global text chat has slowed the PvP zerg. You can't have one or two people globally broadcast that a group is at keep X and trying to take it. By the time people recognize this in console, it's already taken, and this prevents the zerg versus zerg style of combat.

You can have a massive force at one keep, while a smaller team captures another. It's easier to counter these with people watching the maps and announcing everything in global chat.

A small worry, but it is one positive that I see to not having global text chat.

How come there's still no text chat? Is it so hard to implement? Will it take full 2 hours of a devs life? Why does this thread still existing and text chat doesn't? Where can I complain about text chat? What is the meaning of life?

There should be protests in game. Go to populated areas and play something obnoxious like "Amazing Horse" or "Narwhals". You know what the best part is? As far as I'm aware currently there is no way to mute specific people, so they would just have to deal with it or leave all social interaction as a whole (unless you go to different channel like in guild or group chat). I'm starting to feel like the decision to leave text chat out was made by some high up administrator who does not know what he/she is doing lol.

I have to wonder why the actual designers made the choice. Maybe tech stuff maybe design stuff.

So far console ESO has sold 1 mill copies at least. This thread has about 25 unique pro text posters. Maybe it is a niche concern.
If even half of the consumer base was in this thread, it would likely be addressed.
This threat is sprawling because of the same reason every forum post grows, people on the internet regularly engage in civil friendly debate.

I stand by my original statement that you don't want to talk with people because. You will rather hide behind a keyboard and type a message Instead of having a conversation with a person using your Vocal cords. How is that being social many people have claimed that instead of talking to people most mute their mics and leave area chat or join a party by their selves instead of asking players to turn off their music or you can hear them breathing.

I also read each post where someone put up a valid reason agansit the implementation of text chat and they were ignored and told they were wrong with no proof to back it up.

So again Sir I have read each and every post and I have drawn to the conclusion that most would rather become anti-social and they wonder why they can't find a group to run a dungeon or PvP with.

saying there is only 25 unique pro text people is ignorant. This has 1.9k comments on it there is more then that. I can say there is only 5 people against then. As far as the 1 million copy sold many people have already left the game. I know many people who played for a week and then left. The numbers are dropping every day. ZOS should be thinking about the players that will be with them for the next years. Weather that is people who favor text chat or not I don't know. This is most likely one reason the issue has not been addressed.

Its funny when anti text people post stuff like

You cant find a good guild? I joined 5 guilds by accepting blind invites in starter zones!

Voice chat for buying\selling works great! I'm sure 1 of the 20 people near me in this starter zone will give me a better deal then the other 100k people online!

Its easy to get groups for dungeons! I've done fungal grotto 2xs now!

Text chat has the ability to be able to scroll up and down through the chat tab so you can see who is selling what. And then you can go into private messages to work out the deal.

    Problem solved. Next!

You can also ask what the player is selling with ohh my gosh your voice and then join a group with them and haggle with them their. Also trading on consoles won't work like that unless they completely change the way trading works, you have to be Infront of the player and then one of you have to click on the redial menu to trade with them.

You can't use the ingame mail system because you could get scammed and you also don't know when you have mail at time.Another thing am pretty sure if they add Text chat they will use players Gamer tags not ingame character name.Which you need to send mail.

So tell me how will trading work on console with a Text box?
