voice chat is definitely superior to text chat in gameplay. however...

-voice chat doesn't work for finding a group. group finder is broken and i wouldn't call running from city to city, guild channel to guild channel, yelling over others trying to create a group an enjoyable experience.

-trading is a pain. the guild trader system is much less convenient than having pc add-ons and having a dedicated trade channel in cities would be helpful.

-coordinating with guildmates is a pain as you have to toggle between all the different channels between your various guilds.

they already created a text chat for console. they just need to refine and re-implement it to make sure it can be toggled, has filters, has ignore options, has spam reporting options, etc.

Thank you for this precious advice - I wasn't able to assess my buying options till now.

By the way, your contribution to this thread stopped being insightful after your 50th or so post. No need to continue repeating things you've already said many times - I've already read and evaluated your thoughts on the matter. Of course, If you have something new to add, I'd try to take it into account.

TL;DR: It should have become pretty obvious by now that the console version of this game simply doesn't work as intended without text chat. Core MMORPG features such as guilds, grouping, PvP coordination, trading, even roleplaying - all of them suffer due to poor player communication options.

I think one of the biggest differences many people are missing is that on PC you can press a button to toggle talking, this prevents a lot of MIC spamming that happens. You can also easily mute people on PC but on the Console version it's a hassle.

regardless, Text chat should of been there on day one, there really is no excuse along with damage numbers etc...

And yes i completely agree that the console version isn't working as intended because they left out basic MMO features, which is quite honestly amazing.

The more I think about it, the more amazed I am in how they went upon these basic design decisions.

Also I while I agree with you that VC in ESO needs to be fixed and improved the implementation of text chat and the time it would take to completly redo the UI just for a chat box that only a minority will use is a waste of their time.

I disagree, Text chat should be implemented.
LFG system is not working properly, LFG chat would solve this problem. Text chat is just as important as damage numbers.

It's actually not that simple at all, which you already know. You're just doing your darndest to push this ridiculous hyperbole for some reason.

There are so many more factors that go into deciding which platform you want to play on tonight than "keyboard or controller". Not the least of which is 60" 4K TV or 24" monitor. Or couch or desk. Or maybe some people don't have PCs that are as beastly as the rest of us and console is simply their best option.

You don't understand game designing at all do you.You Can't just copy and paste a chat box into the console UI and its there. Their so much the Game designers have to do just to implement a text box and make sure its works or all of you will make another 62 page thread complaining that the text chat that we been asking for a month doesn't even work.

Text chat is a feature that was essentially 'disabled' for consoles. It needs to be toggled back on and possibly tweaked a bit. But there is no UI overhaul needed.

LOL what? This is an MMO, are you suggesting that Chatboxes shouldn't have been implemented in the first place? This is literally a no Brainer, Don't give me that tired excuse of TOO HARD. Even FFXI on the PS2 had Keyboard, Damage numbers. This was hands down a Design choice.

If they can't even properly design chatboxes or Damage numbers in the console versions of an MMO, then they have failed as Developers even DCUO and FFXIV had both upon it's release on consoles.

Use voice chat

Voice Chat on Consoles is terrible compared to PC for a few reasons. One of them being because you can easily press a button to talk. This usually helps prevent Mic Spam.

I'm sure that a lot of times the mic spam comes from people who don't realize they're mic is on.

Sometimes there are no words. If the implementation of basic features that have been included in EVERY SINGLE MMO EVER offends you so much then I wish you luck. So i will end with this:

Dear ZOS please count me as a +1 for text chat. I will continue to lurk on these pages but im not posting again only to have people vehemently argue against a feature that would improve the gameplay of many because of reasons™. I wish you luck with developing your game but you will not get one penny more from me till this is implemented. If you deign to get down from the ivory tower and acknowledge this as an actual issue then depending on what your response actually is I may reconsider.

other issue with voice chat is you only get to hear one or two people just talking over everyone and never coming up for air so no one else ever gets to talk,or your in the middle of a conversation and someone walks up and starts yelling that hes selling a blue motif for 10k or is blasting some horrible music in your ear,the voice chat is so poorly done on here you can even mute a player..just give us TEXT chat and the ability to mute players in voice and the game will almost be a real MMO again,

if they are so worried about people not having a keyboard or not wanting to have a text chat window on the screen on console then just use the second screen feature and we can all use our cell phones to type and see local/group chat,and while your at it ad mod support on console,just work with minion im sure they would be happy to help they made your pc version playable with features the game should have had to begin with like the ability to stack items in the guild bank...being able to see how much damage you are actually doing to an enemy, and your current xp and how much xp needed to your next level...you know things that every other mmo over the past 20 years has had..

not trying to be over critical i love the game over all its just missing some very obvious things, you guys are marketing to MMO players after all so it would make since to add basic MMO features to the game.
