Yeah, but we'd also see dungeon unlocking via replays, an instance scoreboard and a whole bunch of other issues...If they did that for in-game things we'd already have both all the voice chat options we currently do, as well as full blown channel based text chat.
ZoS seems to be taking hints from DCUO's wrong side.

Yea, but at least Mepps from DCUO will test it and stick it in the development section, and it gets put into trial for a hot fix or patch. This is garbage, these guys really don't care. BS.

Of course, If you have something new to add, I'd try to take it into account.

TL;DR: It should have become pretty obvious by now that the console version of this game simply doesn't work as intended without text chat. Core MMORPG features such as guilds, grouping, PvP coordination, trading, even roleplaying - all of them suffer due to poor player communication options.
Any post has become pointless after April 2015 on this topic....it's just ppl trolling
This is about the 16th thread after all those April threads were locked and or deleted
This thread only lives because ppl keep bumping it with no value and those that continue to argue back n forth.....points have been made, reasons to add and reasons not to add where both made sense in some circumstances but Zenimax has also responded
The thread continues....
Zenimax has not responded, even if they did it wasn't enough to reassure the people that they will add Text Chat and damage numbers etc..., the only way for them to listen is to keep bringing up the problem. Which is why people keep on talking about it.
well we will never know since they'll never ask.Proof that the majority would say they want text chat.AaronLannister wrote: »Drake_Fury wrote: »He's one of many on both sides.
Personally, I've been extremely pro text chat since before the console beta when it was first revealed by a correction that @ZOS_JasonLeavey made that it will only have voice chat. I think I predate Varicite on it, but I'm not entirely sure.
There's also the opposite side where NewBlackSmurf, defcon, and others has been against text chat since before the beta as well.
My point is that the determination and origin of when a person speaks about it is not important. What matters is pure numbers. I think. I'm still not sure ZoS has cared about this thread at all since page 8 or so.

Oh, yes, I,m sure there are multiple people on both sides. I pointed out to him because he's the OP and I remembered seeing him pretty much throughout the thread. What I meant is more in the lines of not giving up after all this time and still continues to persevere. You guys are also determined, I'm sure of it, I just didn't take time to pay attention to who did more than 3-4 posts.
That being said. I know the devs remain silent on the problem, but the more this thread keeps going, the less they can ignore it. I'm sick of people saying it's only a vocal minority repeating the same thing all the time, because those vocal people need to do it since a lot af players A: have no idea there is an official eso forum, B: don't come because it's just people bashing each other (which it is, just like every other mmo forum), or a multitude other reasons.
I talked to quite a few people in my guild and pretty much all of them agreed that text chat should be in, but I don't see them post here, partly because they don't like forums, but also because they don't have an english as good as mine (yeah, maybe you didn't realise it but english is not my first language). The french text chat thread exists, but it's not quite as active as this one. The point is if I don't see people of my guild post here, that means there is a lot of people who want text chat, but don't come here to say it, and for their sake, I'm glad that some people are holding hard to this.
I'm sure if they did a world wide poll on the consoles and asked everybody before entering the game to answer the poll the majority would say yes for Damage numbers etc... and Text Chat.
I honestly don't know why people think having less options even on Consoles is a bad thing.
Destiny had no Option to turn music on and off this is how Obnoxious it's gotten. IT NEEDS TO STOP.
Just because I like the convenience and affordability of consoles doesn't mean you should take away these options and design choices that work well on both platforms. It's like they're treating the Console Base as idiots who don't even know how to use a KB.

I'm not attempting to argue with you, but I do want to share that on two seperate ZOS live episodes, different ZOS staff members gave a specific address on their goals, ideas and approach which drove their decisions to remove this long ago from development intentionally.
Many are saying those statements aren't acceptable but those statements were not made for contest or debate. It was just FYI to address concerns such as this thread. It's not coming based on those statements and not being considered at this time at all.
They have encouraged the discussion in the thread only but at no point are they commenting because as mentioned above, the decision to remove was made long ago prior to release.
It kinda comical that people in the thread attack anyone who doesn't agree or who suggest the thread is dead due to official ZOS live responses...the thread as all are here for discussion primarily.
At times threads are linked when ZOS asks about different topics and concerns so MAYBE at some point in 2016 or 2017 this will be reviewed especially with the recent announcement from Microsoft that the Xbox one will in 2016 fully support mouse and keyboard use due to win10 update.
Right now tho, until that occurs, based on ZOS' point of view......just feel free to discuss only but don't expect any considerations to change as it's not on the list.

How is it inferior? By all accounts this game plays better on console then it has on PC.
A game running better doesn't mean it's not missing features. The fact text chat existed in the beta test means they had to put in effort to remove it. Removing features is almost never a good idea and I will never buy ZoS's excuses for it omission, that being said I actually have no issues with in-game voice chat but the problem is that it's the only option. Text is a staple feature for a reason.

Every game that has a Chat box has the ability to hide it... This just tells me you are not a MMO gamer and only used to single player console games... Which is the problem... New people to this actually don't know whats good for them or what they are missing out on.
Or maybe you are new to console and have no idea that almost every console game that supports multiplayer does so with voice chat only.

Yeah, this guy is one hundred percent correct.
I say call a poll of actual players at the boot screen of ESO.
No biased forum polls skewed and conducted by one side or the other.
I say cater to the actual gamers playing the game.
So many people have claimed they left the game over this matter, I think that means zos should cater to the players actually playing the game, as in the 99 percent of players who didn't even notice the text box status because most people don't want a DMV vision test from across their living room every time some gold farmer wants to move some product.
The text for ESO was enlarged for consoles. The tiny PC text was fine right next to the PC player.
The text box on console would likely end up having to be enlarged about 40 percent from PC as well.
What is that going to look like?

Actually i've been playing PC and consoles for over 20 years... Console multiplayer games are VASTLY different to actual MMO games such as this.
People are still unable to grasp the simple concept of an mmo requiring text chat and still defiant to the end to defend a VoIP chat only system...
Again its not like we are demanding they remove VoIP?!? Your also missing the point you are able to hide the text box if you so wish... So i really don't see what the problem is?!

Multiplayer <> MMORPG. Text chat in Killzone or any other FPS? Yeah...no.
FF:ARR and DCUO? Well...it's kinda there by default.
I'm not really sure where games like Destiny fit...but they seem more voice chatty to me for some reason.
The problem with catering to the actual players, is that you lose any perspective around who is leaving and what would keep them engaged.
Pro-text chat guy: Hey ZOS, you know you could expand your player base if you added text chat like those other MMORPGS?
ZOS: Nah, too much like hard work. We'll just cater to the existing player base....who cares about the players who leave or those who want to play but just get put off by the lack of text chat. We don't need their stinking money anyway.

All these threats of going to the cash shop dcuo or the cutesy monthly charged snooze fest of ff online are probably having the opposite effect.
ESO is better than dcuo in terms of quality, story, writing , community etc and its not a pay to winavaganza.
Ff online charges its players by the month for the same game. Over and over. Plus ESO is at least as good and by most accounts better.
