I have to agree that we need text chat implemented into the console version of this game. I've only had the game about three weeks and I'm already getting sick of hearing nothing but abuse, shouting and other people's music when I'm in area chat. It's got to the point now that I just stay in PSN's party chat because I can't permanently turn the area chat off.

It would also be a lot easier to communicate with the members of my guild through text chat as well. Especially if I'm already in a group with friends, at least then I can just type in the text box instead of having to switch groups in voice chat.

whats worse is the imperial patch aint for 2 months on console, that's 2 weeks after PC and no patch notes for chat box, so we won't get it for a minimum of 2 months 2 weeks if they do even decide to add it... 2 more months + without chat box 0_o

I don't want voice chat. I don't want text chat. I don't want to communicate with any of you using anything other than grunts and imogies. Oh! And include me in your groups and factions and all that too!

Is that too much to ask?

Are we talking in game grunts that your toon would make? Because if not that would mean that you do want voice chat so that you can communicate.

    Hrm, still no word then?

I haven't even thought about the game the last several days, just clearing out extraneous tabs now. I'm sure I'll soon be clearing out extraneous harddrive space on my console too. I guess they don't care, they already got my money.

Isn't it amazing how even a quick "We are reconsidering how to handle console communication." would at least buy them time, keep some players, and keep making them money...and, they just...won't...say anything.

OH ... my post was deleted ... ops, all seriousness was not trying to be against what ever it was.

Copy that no posts on petitions, sorry ZOS ... on a funny note ... your message gave me the 10 comments badges or something :)

    My thoughts then.

Text chat will mostly fill the role of finding members for a dungeon or party, it is not like we are going to have massive conversations on it (even though some will). It is for finding that last guy for the last spot in the party or as a solo player looking for a group or pvp group.

If the testing that was done in house was around chatting then of course it sucks, but for LFM / LFG / WTB ... text chat on console is fantastic.

Voice chat needs to remain, its useful for making contact but at the same time I see the need to have text chat, as lkne as one doesn't come at the expense of the other,

What voice chat does need is a mute option, or better still push to talk, tooany inconsiderate people on mics who blare music out loud preventing that emmersion into the game but its nice to chat to travellers ask if they need a hand or fancy running that delve over yonder hill, text chat on console is as hit and miss as voice chat ...

Sadly I don't think the topic is as simple as is text chat needed, its more about consideration to our fellow gamers, I'm told people can't hear me when I play and my mic isnt plugged in but the PlayStation eye is so while they can hear me I'm constantly told that I'm broadcasting sound in some areas.

Why is zone chat mic more sensitive than group chat or guild chat ?

Don't apologize to me, lol. I feel fortunate actually. They won't get a dime from me going forward since I will continue to not play. No sub, no crowns, no dlc, no vanity items.... Zos saved me 100s of dollars if not more by not adding a basic and simple feature.

The friends list is also completely broken making communicating and grouping even worse. I have 36 friends on the Xbox One Dashboard showing they are currently in the game. But in the "in-game" friends list it says I have 7 online out of 32. I then tried joining a friend through the Xbox Live "Join Friend" that is playing in the same zone, same faction and when the game loaded it said the person did not exist, even though they are actively playing.

Are you sure those friends are on the same server (US/EU) as you?

Honestly I've had 0 problems using voice chat to communicate. Whether it be in a dungeon, city (for trade), guild, PvP I've had nothing but positive experiences. If I don't want to talk to someone I leave that chat channel. When someone I am trying to communicate isn't responding or not in the chat channel I sent them a message and that will usually clear up everything.

Instead of getting frustrated and butthurt because you don't have text chat, (which will probably come at some point in the future) put in a little effort to utilize the mechanics that are available to you. Usually the people who correctly use voice chat are people I have found to be very fun to play with who have friends/guild members that do the same.

Okay, I came here from a thread with a very good reason text chat should be in the console games: There are deaf players. There are players with speech impediments. There are players with social anxiety. There are players who are physically unable to use voice chat.

So saying it doesn't belong on consoles is saying these players do not belong in the game.

    One-hundred percent this.

Yay capitalism. You can't haggle on a guild store over their over inflated prices.

I really don't miss text chat. I never really used it on defiance.

For whatever reason they left it out and it is one of the best selling console games available.

Oh wait a few months when everyone is endgame and can't form a group or even communicate people will crack up. The only reason people are Semi ok with it now is because 99% of people are solo questing... for now.

You may have a point. I still don't really miss it but I'm not vet level yet.

It just seems that by the time you are vet level how have you not joined a guild or made at least four tough friends.

In my circle I'm the last one left who isn't vet rank. I keep getting invited to run the dungeons tho.

Thanks for a sensible reply BTW. You might be the one reasonable poster in the thread.

Yea... Get to max level and then look up 'Trials' then come back and realize why you need text chat.

I don't think I'll have trouble getting people to play. I belong to several guilds and can easily gather people to play. I think by the time my groups are bored and leveled up and anxious to play the trials, the group will just begin work on those.

Time will tell. Just start making friends now and when you are leveled up, you will have all the trial mates you need. Just 12 right.

I've heard they're hard but I don't know why you'd want to do them with some keyboard cowboy try ping away while you need him to be tanking or Something. Of course its only my opinion.

It seems like yes, text chat would help you gather people to play the trials, but those people you gather are going to be the role players, the bite trolls, the purple vendors, and the too shy for mic crowd.

I think I'd like. Twelve mics coordinating in the trial.

I'm fairly sure if there is no chatbox when the majority of players get to endgame the game will die, I'm sure of it. Because then it will become more work than fun.

I don't see how chat box will save players. Good relationships with other players will save players. Voice chat forges these bonds faster and funnier. Its hard to rage at your buddy. But some random text chat invite? He's obviously the problem and reason YOU died, right?

Funny how a couple pages ago people were all pissy about ZOS responding to Delita...Now they're hoping for it.

When does he talk about text chat? I had to stop watching after 4:30 when the guy complained about running out of resources faster while using the exact same character he transferred from pc. That left only 3 options. ZOS messed up coding on pc. ZOS messed up coding on consoles. He's bad without add-ons. Can't take his opinion on gameplay if he can't play a game without having his hand held. Timestamp to the mention of text chat would be nice. I'd like to think their opinions on that would hold more weight.

That's... quite an assumption, you've just made. I'll just leave it at that for the sake of politeness.

It makes finding 12 people outside of guild to do the Trials much easier, regardless of which communication medium they choose while actually participating in the activity.

Most would choose to use VOIP, as that's simply a better option for Trials, just as text is a better option for gathering the numbers to run them.

In a social game, where you are supposed to meet new people and do activities together, you don't think it's just a little asinine to expect everyone to have 12 friends ready to run Trials at their beck and call before they ever even get to the point where they can run them?

And how can you meet these peopel to bind with when you can;t even find a freaking group int he first place? there's + 1000% more chance to find a group for ANY type of content when using text chat... do i run around shouting over mic to 100 random people at a wayshrine "wanna quest together" nope.

And all previous MMO gamers will know you can have good friends in mmo's with only text chat and no voice not to mention the EU server sucks because no one speaks the same language, not a single group on the EU server did anyone ever speak English, and when i checked they were all french, German, dutch etc and couldn't evens peak English.......

Quick point to the folk who say text chat is not needed. Just because you can play happily without it thats great. No really i mean it. But i ask you this: why argue against something that wouldnt detract from your gameplay but would significantly improve it for others?

It shouldnt even be a debate and dev silence on this is a disgrace it really is. Just confirm one way or the other so a whole bunch of us should know whether to stay or leave.

If you're the only one in the group who speaks English, then the problem is that you don't speak French or German etc.

Not that that detracts from PS needing a chat box.

You don't see how? here's how: By letting us follow multiple discussions at the same time. Not being able to know what's going on in my guild while I'm in group chat is being REALLY irritating. I'm not a guild leader, but if I was, I would need to force my members to stay in guild chat 100% of the time to make sure they wouldn't miss out on stuff. You can't ask that from someone who runs dungeons, they need communication inside the dungeon.

Answering to this guy in town asking for a shield to be made, without having to leave the guild channel because i'm in the middle of a conversation with a guildmate, priceless!

It's normal for people who are new to MMOs not to understand this, you're used to play games where 3-8 people are in the same game. In this one, it's millions, litterally. After a while, when you start raiding or if you plan on getting in with hardcore guilds who are a bit on the elitist side, you will understand, "guild > everything else", and you will want to be able to know what's going on in your guild, whatever you're doing. You don't have time to reply, you don't, but at least you know what's going on.

You missed the point. In order to organize a trail run, you need text chat to get the group together. Enjoy trying to get your 12 'friends' together at the same time when you are trying to grind a specific peace of gear. You will need other randoms who also need to do trials to fill out the group.

Again, get to max level before you comment on something you have no clue about.

Look at text chat on Neverwinter, most of it is just spam and from 8ft away on a 50 inch tv i can't read a bloody thing, I have no desire to sit closer to the tv to watch spam.

Would be best if they added in new voice channels, LFG, Trade and make it more than area chat is, Faction at least.

As for the swearing i've heard less than a dozen swear words since the game was launched on console, have had the pleasure of listening to ppl give build advice, class, race, coins etc .. even if one guy was giving out info he mistakenly thought was correct it was good to see ppl actually communicating

I've already stated numerous times to ZoS that I refuse to buy any crowns or ESO Plus until text chat comes to consoles (no DLC for me in the meantime), and once/if it does the first thing I will do is buy $100 worth of crowns. They truly seem to not care. It's just not enough to have them notice. Now, if you went to $10,000 worth of crowns......
