That right there shows how much this is NEEDED, and that "console players" DO care enough about it to come to the forums and "demand" to get the equal treatment that PC players get.

No, I wouldn't be okay with paying for an app. I would be okay with a free app that allowed me to chat with people in game that didn't involve a mic. BUT...I would only be okay with that as a "band-aid" fix. There is no way an app could permanently replace in-game text chat.

Well it would also be paying for text chat on your cell unless of course you have unlimited free chat on the cell. So you would be paying even more right?

This is fairly off topic. Someone made a parody suggested app, i.e., charging for the ability to communicate, and one person said they'd be willing to get it.

There are people out there who are still willing to go through mercury therapy.

For real though, it would be so nice to be able to just type "group hitting Brindle, come with" on the text chat. It's hard to orchestrate a good siege without it.

Well, since the anti text chat crowd suggested emotes, I suggested using juggleflame or leanbackcoin at cardinal directions at the transitus shrines! Everyone will know what you are trying to tell them, and you can coordinate during battle! (You just can't participate....) Ain't it great!

Actualy it would be a data usage since it would have to be a web based app, but reguardless this isnt a "fix" to the problem, because it would require a smartphone or tablet to do something thats a basic funtion of every other MMORPG (both PC & console), it would be a nice add on.

You definitely have been putting up the good fight and I for one appreciate it. All the time I spent lurking on these forums waiting for the console launch, I saw you and smurf go at it over this...without your diligence, this conversation may have died down during that time, instead it kept momentum and we console only players were able to join the discussion while it is still going in full swing.

If you're suggesting that ZOS change their stance, make yourself fully aware of their decisions first.

As far as me posting any links....this is to no benefit to me as I've fine with their direction, decisions and statements as have watched them more than once.

Not having text chat is my only real gripe with the game (other than my character being stuck between zones right now).

I realize that console gaming is geared toward voice communication. However, text chat allows an element of multi tasking. Lets say you are in your group voice chat tearing through a raid, and you still want to keep in touch with what is going on in guild, or perhaps when you have a sec, answer someone's question in a crafting channel. Communication diversity is quite limited without it.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm fairly confident ZOS is going to break and add text chat back into console. The code is there, it's just not activated.

There in April, pulled in May before beta.

You've got it backwards. You know where it is, you link it. If you're going to bring up evidence you have to SUPPLY the evidence, not send other people on a wild goose chase across an entire forum and innumerable videos linked, over a year of weekly streams, etc..

The fact remains regardless that the lack of decent communication is crippling to an MMO though so I don't imagine it matters.

NewBlackSmurf thinks he's the speaker for console players even though many have told him he is not.

He can't quite grasp that he speaks just for himself.

He also has been on an anti text crusade even making videos for it on YouTube.

While I and other FFXIV ARR and Neverwinter players can type and change buttons much faster , if smurf is as slow as he is in this video he made , I feel sorry for him.

Also, no, that is nothing like the games are on PS4 that have keybaord support. This is how they work:

You start typing and it goes into the text box.

The keyboard's only function is for communications so typing just brings up the text input box and has no impact on your controller input.

Interestingly, this is how FFXIV works on PC if you're using a keyboard and controller, this is how it worked in the PS4 beta for FFXIV as well.

Some games require you hit enter to bring up the text input window, but, again, your controller inputs are uninterrupted, you can type half a sentence, use the controller to do something, then finish your sentence with no interruption.

This is how it has worked on essentially every console MMO I've played clear back to Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast.

It required a special Dreamcast keyboard, but it worked great, and you didn't need some vast quantity of dexterity to type with your pinkies while still playing, you just typed between combats and if you needed to discuss something, you'd discuss it before. There were also, get ready for this: CUSTOM QUICKCHATS.

This means you could bind the Function keys to messages that YOU created allowing you to set up messages that you use at a single key press mid combat. Important considering there wasn't voice chat.

They later got fancier with the Gamecube version, at least in Japan, but you could import one of these bad boys and it'd work fine.

So I suppose because the one game he played has crappy support, that means all games must.

I wouldn't pay for that i have kik if need be. That's what my guild is using but Text chat needs to be implemented for free they are making enough off crown store and 18$ mounts to give us a basic MMO feature.

True but is frustrating hearing idiots in area chat. I know most of them don't buy their own underwear and that's fine. This game has the worst communication system that I have seen in a mmo.

I can only support text chat IF and ONLY there is an option to remove it from the screen.

I find text chat annoying and worthless, mainly since we have voice chat now anyway. Voice chat works fine and I have met people I enjoy gaming with that NEVER would met if forced to use text chat.

Text chat boxes serve to only remove and destroy my immersion playing the game.
