But im sure at that point that Zenimax didnt make this game for MMORPG players, they made it for fans of the singleplayer games, with the little koop bonus. That Voice chat only doesnt work, reasons are all in this thread
I highly doubt that. Most of the community that is adamant on text-only will leave but I'd reckon that isn't that large of a slice of the pie.r.kolasab14_ESO wrote: »game will be empty in 3 months if they dont add text chat
Oh, so is this now an implicit admission that voice chat is not an effective means of communication in the open world? I comprehend just fine, you have yet to demonstrate how this magical discipline is going to occur where only voice chat exists as a means of communication. Is the guild MOTD supposed to provide enough info for this magical 'discipline' that you speak of? How are the console players to find guilds that are compatible with them ingame? If you state that they should look here at these forums, that is then another tacit admission that text communication is vital for that level of detail.I'm sorry but text chat box is one of the most annoying things on Neverwinter please don't bring that crap to ESO. For you all that cant find friends or people to play with try joining an active guild there are at least 20 pages on the NA Xbox forums alone with some threads dedicated to just making friends. Drop your GT on a thread and watch them come to you. Seriously though I encouraged all my guildies to participate in guild chat and I haven't gotten one negative complaint. We enjoy the no hassle communication while doing any and everything. ZoS is working with silver and turning it into gold. Adding text chat is just a down grade.
Try being a GM of 2 guilds in this game, with over 700 people. Unmanageable with single channel voice chat.
Perhaps this game is designed will smaller, more communal guilds in mind. Personally, my preference is to stay away from giant, faceless guilds who will take anybody & play with a select group of folks where everyone knows everybody & enjoys their company.
But, hey - to each their own.
Then why allow up to 500 guild members in any given guild?
Hey, I'm allowed to eat an entire birthday cake in one sitting, doesn't mean I should do it or that it's a good idea.
@StaticWax As you could also rob a bank, run through public naked, or go dancing on top of police cruisers.
Don't side-step the question. If you think this game is designed for "smaller, more communal guilds in mind," then why do they allow up to 500 members per guild while also allowing each player to join 5 guilds?
If you can't figure out a way to coordinate your 500 member guild, then that's on you. Saying it's impossible is a short cut to thinking. Have your 500 m guild if that's what you're into. Use the tools in front of you.
If you ask me, text chat w/500 members is a circus anyway. Might as well just be in global/zone chat. It's ridiculous. Zeni gave you the "option" to form a 500 m guild. Sink or swim with it. The trade off is, small guild = tight comms with well known folks or giant guild = dungeon finder quality peeps with crap comms. The choice is yours. You choose the zerg, deal with it. You're doing it to yourself.
There is no inherently right or wrong answer here, folks. This is a subjective opinion based "feature" that does not exist in this game.
I'm assuming you're in agreement that voice chat w/ 500 members is a circus x 100?
I'm no advocate for spam, vocal or text. Of course with proper discipline, either can work. It's not impossible.
Please oh great master, teach us how to instill discipline on area/zone.
Better yet, @StaticWax and other opponents of players having the OPTION of text chat, demonstrate your ability to instill discipline on an area voice chat in one of the cities. Use the PS4's Share Button and make a YouTube video of you successfully getting a large group of people to use voice chat in a disciplined and polite manner so that messages can be heard, comprehended, and acted upon suitably. Please post the video so that we can see how you manage to do this, since the voice chat is working so splendidly!
I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it.
Uh... yea... the discipline I was referring to was in guild chat & it's organization. Reading comp & context ftw...
But thank you for trying to participate. Keep working at it, you'll get it eventually.
So far, your side of the debate has literally been reduced to stating that you do not want text chat available as an option because you fear that it will be the popular choice and fewer people will be on the voice channels to be spammed with whatever noise pollution you folks enjoy creating.
Would you be in favor of these forums being taken down and replaced with a voice chat room? If not, why?
Another thing if they add chat text the players who don't want it and turn it off will splits up the community even more between the ones who want a chat box and the the ones who want only voice. For me and others if we turn off the chat box then the players who only use chat box will be separate from the ones who do not want to use it.The community is already split up into 3 alliances adding a chat box will splinter the community even more between the ones who won't use it and the ones who will.
One last thing if you want the community to be strong and for the game to do will then lets build up a community in the game with what we have already. That won't happen by splitting the community into two groups. In my honest opinion anyone can disagree with me but I believe adding it will kill the game more then not having text chat by splitting the community into 2 the game will die even quicker.

Are you implying that those of us who just turn off voice chat aren't already splitting it?
If anything that just means we'll join voice chat when there's something going on that necessitates it, i.e., groups running dungeons/pvp/whatever.
As is we're all deaf and dumb insofar as communication goes.
Also, my friend ran into someone out in the middle of nowhere lastnight having sex with their mic on in area chat... soooo that's just great.

In regard to everyone saying it's not that hard to build relationships and a community with voice chat, you're missing the whole point. Many of us don't want to talk on voice chat, plain and simple. Some others need text chat to effectively lead their guild. Others who have hearing disabilities need it in order to even play the game. It's a lot more than just "building a relationship" or a "community" or whatever the hell we want to call it.

Then it's a really really easily solutions to your problem. You know a year ago they released Elder scrolls online for PC with KB support and a chat box.If you need chat text then play the version with it.Its really simple to tell you the truth.

Text chat has not been natural to consoles for a long time. Hardly anyone has the keyboard plug ins. It would be resources waisted because it will hardly get used. The ONLY time it would be handy is when the chat goes down for everyone, but let's just hope that is a problem they will get resolved very soon.

Because it's the same 14 ppl spamming & bumping. No one from Zen responds because what they would like to say to the pro text chat folks would get them banned in their own forum.

As opposed to the 3 people against it, most of whom refuse to provide any actual reasons, who have been spamming and bumping the thread as well?
I honestly wish they had left the poll, as it had a pretty decent amount of actual votes (far more than either of our for or against groups here in this thread) and showed an overwhelming majority in favor of an optional text chat function.

For the most part, I agree with you. Except for the actual reasons portion. I'm not really into repeating myself but I've supplied reasons. Whether ppl agree with them or not has little to do with the supply.

I thought other games had a keyboard option within the games and it would come up so u can type in a chat? No separate keyboard needed? You know like on cell phones.
