That being said, I'm still refusing to spend absolutely any more money on ESO (Crowns nor ESO Plus) until they add text chat for consoles. Once that happens, I'll gladly spend $100 on Crowns to show my support of them listening to the majority of their players.
choltan49_1999ub17_ESO wrote: »Earlier someone posted that they wanted to hear 1 good reason to have text chat on the console. There are actually several, but the main one is happening to me right now. What are you supposed to do when the voice chat goes down? If voice chat goes down and that is the only way you have to communicate with anyone, you are totally screwed. At least with text chat you have an alternate way to communicate with people if voice goes down. I do agree that any text chat should and must be optional though.
@Alphashado that's pretty subjective, for example if people decided to switch to text chat en masse it would become very difficult to communicate to anyone who wasn't typing.
@Merkabeh yes, have I ever lead you to believe that my opinion wasn't self serving?
@Merkabeh I'm certainly not a benevolent leader. Gaming communities are a good place to take part in because I can express my ideals, my concerns, my opinions and read the reactions of other people who play games without them being reflected upon the games I work on.
It is my hope that if I ever bring a game that traditionally has chat to a console that I won't have to have text chat, but it would appear that isn't the case. So I should probably get to figuring out a good way to make a companion app with chat for consoles
I swear the anti-Text chat crowd believes that adding text chat means they have to LITERALLY be inputting to the keyboard non-stop to maintain a connection to the game.
Also, so far as splintering the community goes, I guess the huge volume of people who merely mute voice chat as soon as they come on aren't splintering it even more?
ESO remains the only MMO to date to fully remove text chat and it seems to me that most people aren't in the least bit happy about it.
Please ZOS before the release i was 100% behind voip but please for the love of god give us a way to permanently shut it off.
as well as a text chat i am sorry but i have had enough of the sick crap over the mics.
First wether or not people are trolling or just been sick [ you dont sit around making sexual noises and other sounds that I'd rather not say].
Second the outlandish abuse i dont care if you want to swear your head off even if you are 12 years old but directing it ar other players is just wrong. [ Today drove me off with this from someone very very young [ Oi you N***a F*** what the F*** os wrong with you] i do not wish to hear this crap full stop ZOS.

Yea, really.
At least with language filters on text chat you can hide the foul language. Even an inferior game by mediocre developers (dc universe) has the chat system down perfectly, and warps players to instance when it pops. Zenimax is good. Very good. And this game is beatiful and amazing. It can be perfect with those two features added. (At least the text chat)
*sighs and walks away*
I'm sorry but text chat box is one of the most annoying things on Neverwinter please don't bring that crap to ESO. For you all that cant find friends or people to play with try joining an active guild there are at least 20 pages on the NA Xbox forums alone with some threads dedicated to just making friends. Drop your GT on a thread and watch them come to you. Seriously though I encouraged all my guildies to participate in guild chat and I haven't gotten one negative complaint. We enjoy the no hassle communication while doing any and everything. ZoS is working with silver and turning it into gold. Adding text chat is just a down grade.
Try being a GM of 2 guilds in this game, with over 700 people. Unmanageable with single channel voice chat.
Perhaps this game is designed will smaller, more communal guilds in mind. Personally, my preference is to stay away from giant, faceless guilds who will take anybody & play with a select group of folks where everyone knows everybody & enjoys their company.
But, hey - to each their own.
Then why allow up to 500 guild members in any given guild?
Hey, I'm allowed to eat an entire birthday cake in one sitting, doesn't mean I should do it or that it's a good idea.
@StaticWax As you could also rob a bank, run through public naked, or go dancing on top of police cruisers.
Don't side-step the question. If you think this game is designed for "smaller, more communal guilds in mind," then why do they allow up to 500 members per guild while also allowing each player to join 5 guilds?
If you can't figure out a way to coordinate your 500 member guild, then that's on you. Saying it's impossible is a short cut to thinking. Have your 500 m guild if that's what you're into. Use the tools in front of you.
If you ask me, text chat w/500 members is a circus anyway. Might as well just be in global/zone chat. It's ridiculous. Zeni gave you the "option" to form a 500 m guild. Sink or swim with it. The trade off is, small guild = tight comms with well known folks or giant guild = dungeon finder quality peeps with crap comms. The choice is yours. You choose the zerg, deal with it. You're doing it to yourself.
There is no inherently right or wrong answer here, folks. This is a subjective opinion based "feature" that does not exist in this game.
I'm assuming you're in agreement that voice chat w/ 500 members is a circus x 100?
I'm no advocate for spam, vocal or text. Of course with proper discipline, either can work. It's not impossible.
Please oh great master, teach us how to instill discipline on area/zone.

Better yet, @StaticWax and other opponents of players having the OPTION of text chat, demonstrate your ability to instill discipline on an area voice chat in one of the cities. Use the PS4's Share Button and make a YouTube video of you successfully getting a large group of people to use voice chat in a disciplined and polite manner so that messages can be heard, comprehended, and acted upon suitably. Please post the video so that we can see how you manage to do this, since the voice chat is working so splendidly!
I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it.

Oh, so is this now an implicit admission that voice chat is not an effective means of communication in the open world? I comprehend just fine, you have yet to demonstrate how this magical discipline is going to occur where only voice chat exists as a means of communication. Is the guild MOTD supposed to provide enough info for this magical 'discipline' that you speak of? How are the console players to find guilds that are compatible with them ingame? If you state that they should look here at these forums, that is then another tacit admission that text communication is vital for that level of detail.I'm sorry but text chat box is one of the most annoying things on Neverwinter please don't bring that crap to ESO. So far, your side of the debate has literally been reduced to stating that you do not want text chat available as an option because you fear that it will be the popular choice and fewer people will be on the voice channels to be spammed with whatever noise pollution you folks enjoy creating.
Would you be in favor of these forums being taken down and replaced with a voice chat room? If not, why?
