And now it has been decided that they will offer some of them by themselves.

But this picture-quote is originally with reference to new motifs, not existing ones.

Now? That was back in January.

My gut reaction is this is NOT good.
Selling Motifs is NOT a convenience item.

Using pressure tactics (Senche-Leopard) and putting items on the store that are the goal for crafters to find while playing the game, specially the Dwemer motif. No longer rare if you can simply buy it, even if it is expensive.

I was all for the B2P .....but between EXP boost coupled with the long grid of the champion system, and now rare items being sold and pressure tactics.....I think I'm quickly losing interest in this game.

I'm shocked at how quickly this game became a cash shop.
    • Using pressure strategy to sell expensive cosmetic items is fine in my opinion. No one is forced to buy it and this will not affect the game.
    • Selling rare items that can be found in game can break the economy of the game and the longevity of the game. That's no good!
    • XP boost that can affect the Champion points gain is not good either, because that also will affect the balance and the life of the players and give a strong advantage to players that uses the XP boost: This will forces players to have "efficient way of playing" to beneficate a maximum from their potion they have bought, making activities like exploration, hanging out, roleplay, enjoying your time with your friends, being helpful, something that is literally wasting your money! XP boost will create a TOXIC environment.

I really prefer that Zenimax use the Senche Mount kind of marketing strategy to earn money. They need the money, and this will beneficiate us on long term (unless they keep the money for themselves and are not improving the game with it). But selling item that will unbalance the fragile ecosystem of the game is a very very very dangerous move.

Yes now. It was January when they said "Whether or not we will offer them by themselves has not yet been decided", and now it has been decided. But still only with reference to existing motifs. They may not yet have decided about new DLC-based motifs.

Can I just ask if we will still be able to find the rare motifs in game? Will the drop rate be the same? Or will we be forced to buy them for cash from now on. I am only missing the Barbaric, and although I could buy it in-game from a guild store, I like the thrill of robbing banks in the hope of finding it. Just being able to slap some cash down for it takes all the fun out of things. Still we must pander to those who have to have things NOW. I don't care if they are in the crown store so long as there is still a chance of finding them in the world, even though it means the rare motifs are no longer that special or an indicator that someone has levelled their crafting and been nearly driven to tears in the hunt for them (i.e. me lol). I'm sure this has probably been answered elsewhere in this thread, but it has gotten rather long!

Where does it say that it is decided? That being said you act like we will get new zones etc soon. It'll be probably spring 2016 before we see any new zones, new levels or new crafting motifs. By then they will be selling end game gear and high end crafting mats on the store. This will seem minor heh.

@Ragged_Claw Nope, not been answered. Still waiting to see who in ZoS got the short straw to actually respond to this....assuming they do......??? General rumours are that they are dropping less since 1.6 - but I've not experienced that yet. Then again, I'm EU.

Well to be honest these greedy people had noone to blame but themselves for this. Asking 100k for imperial motif is most likely what drove them to put it on the store.

Not really @liquid_wolf as the in game economy will still role on.

Some will say "duhhh, why buy it off you for 100k gold when I can just go but it at the Crown Store".
To which I shall reply "Go for it and spend your $50.00 you crazy person" :)

Most people will look at the prices and question it. However, what it does do longer term, which would be interesting to know if they have considered it, is effectively set a price for $ to gold conversion with this.

$1 = 5,000 gold (about a 1/3rd off what the gold stores offer)

You could just spend time finding it in the game and get it free. Why are people always so quick to look for shortcuts. Play the game eventually if you try hard you will get what you want handed to you for nothing.

Okay, now to express my opinion, because apparently I can't just make little fun of some people.

People should really stop being so selfish and look at the situation from a different point of view. New players now will have a way to acquire motives without farming containers and relogging constantly, that is not being a very pleasant occupation. That is good for new players and the company. Sure the market price of these motifs may go down a little, but it's not like the whole thing will just explode. It will settle and everyone will carry on, forgetting this was even an issue before.

Exp pots? Why not? You mean some people that can get bored by questing, and possibly even leave the game because of it, now will have an option to just spend a few bucks to get to endgame? Why not? Good for people, good for the company. I personaly can't see how this possibly can cheapen anyones progress in the game. This is an MMO with storytelling! The most precious thing about it is your experience with the game. Why should anyone care that someone else got to higher veteran rank faster than them? This game has no direct competition between players (although guild wars may be awesome). The flow of players leveling up will always be somewhat constant. You will see low level people in cyrodill as well as people below 14 veteran rank. It may not be the same guy that whooped your shaveskin butt before, but who will hold a grudge in an online game? (actually some silly people would) It's not like everyone besides some one poor guy (portray your frowny face here) will sudenly jump to max veteran rank and make fun of yo~AHEM I meant him. Make fun of him, not you. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

You should take time to think how this will really affect your experience with the game, and I mean really think. I really adore ZOE, they did an amazing job! In no way these changes will make my enjoyment of the game any less, and I am absolutely certain that no change in Crown store in the future will. I only hope these people get what they deserve.

For what it's worth, there's a green post in German forums stating that the drop rates will not be changed and that all crown store purchases are account bound.

Now that you're saying it, he wrote "die Dropraten bleiben unverändert" which translates to "the drop rates stay unchanged". He didn't say anything about past changes like immediately before 2.0.5 dropped...

Those same new players that get everything handed to them for a few dollars are the ones who get bored and quit. Tossing your long term customers in the trash in favor of a quick money grab from new players is not a good way to do business.

This is the point where any item is a potential addition to the crown store. Everything is always more "convenient" when you can acquire it in a few seconds with real money. So take your pick. What "convenience" item would you like next? A stack of any crafting material? All types of armour? Recipe Book? Skill points? 120 champion points? Maxed out character ready for PVP?

    Why even play the game?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I first started hearing them tossing around the term "convenience item." Everything is a "convenience item" as long as it's still possible to earn it in-game. If the game has an Awesome Sword of Awesomeness that has a 0.001% chance of dropping in one chest at the end of the hardest dungeon in the game, but I could buy it in the cash shop for $10, then that's a "convenience item". Sure, I could still earn it the hard and noble way--investing weeks of effort trying for the drop--while everyone kicks my butt in PvP because they just bought it in the store. But realistically, almost everyone is just going to pay for it. That's what a cash shop is all about--to not only make you WANT to spend cash, but to make you feel that you HAVE to spend cash.

I dont see what all fuss is about the Motifs to be honest serious what is different the sell Motifs or Costume that look like any of High Elf, Ancient Elf, Argonian, Barbaric, Wood Elf, Breton, Daedric, Dark Elf, Dwemer, Imperial, Khajiit, Nord, Orc, Primal or Redguard armor yeah big different is that you can craft and it will get stats on so what if i do any armor it will get same stats so this no P2W and honest people this way for you complete you craft books to get all styles for armor and beside it can be found in the game as well.

I have been try for month to get my hand on Dwemer, Imperial and Barbaric and i get really tried of not get it so yeah i go to buy those Motifs to complete my crafting books.

It's people like this that are ruining MMOs. I wish there was an MMO that explicitly did NOT cater to people like this. The rareness of items and the fickleness of the RNG is an integral part of MMOs and makes upgrades special. I remember in games like EQ and even WoW there were some items that were just hard to get. You either put in the time to farm..or you bought them from other players who did (or got lucky). That's what made the items special. I still remember raiding Deathwing Lair *every* week for over 8 months and I never missed one raid but the Chrommagus crossbow I wanted so bad never dropped for us. Nobody in our guild ever got that bow and I'm OK with that because if it had been easy to get or if everyone just paid for it in a cash shop it would not have been special at all. It also would have meant there was no reason to keep playing if everything was just so easy to get.

It's too bad that MMOs can't just make two versions of each MMO..one for people who want everything handed to them or purchasable via cash shop and one for people who want to actually play the game whether the RNG is favorable to them or not.

    Shadow walker set
    Morag Tong set

Though one has to wonder if they'll be giving a ninja nerf to drop rates . . .

They already did. Drop rates went way down when 1.6 hit. I guess, in retrospect this was the obvious reason for it.

I haven't noticed any drop rate to motifs in 1.6 or even yesterday. I've been getting 4-6 dwemer chapters per day and 2-3 daedric/ancient elf motifs each week like clockwork. I didn't farm quite as much yesterday, but two runs through a dwemer ruin netted me 2 dwemer chapters.

    Can I clarify something here.

I bought the Imperial upgrade from the shop when it launched. I had the crowns, there was nothing else I really wanted to what the hey :)

So, I bought it. Now, I can CHANGE the style of an item by right clicking it and converting it to "Imperial". What I CAN NOT do is CRAFT an item in Imperial. I Still, as far as I know, have to actually get the imperial book and LEARN it to make the items I want in that style.

Can @ZOS_GinaBruno confirm / deny this please?

On a side note, just so you can all laugh, I actually bought the "Rarest Item" the Dwemer Book this weekend for a horrifically large sum of in game gold :D

You'd have to create a new character with Imperial as his/her race in order to be able to craft in the imperial style if you don't want to farm for the imperial motif or buy it outright.

This will be interesting. I don't feel it was the right decision, if motifs were meant to be something hard to find in the game, they should of stayed that way. This is going to take away from the whole aspect of finding and learning/selling motifs. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

I have been quite unlucky so far Motif wise, I cannot even find most of the regular motifs. I am not intending to spend crowns on it, but the in game price drop could be useful for me. Plus the Cash Shop motifs are character bound so people cannot just sell them like I've seen in other games. (I see people buy cash shop things for 7$ and sell them for 8 000 000 in game bucks in other games, sometimes 10 times more)

Yep. That's exactly what I mean. Sure there are other bad elements but they are known bad elements. Everyone knows and accepts that bots and toxic people are bad. However, it's the subversive nature of this "instant gratification" type of person that has slowly transformed MMOs into something entirely different and much worse than what they were.

I would also argue that it's these same people that are the ones buying gold from the gold farmers and keep them in business. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have gold farmers because there would be no buyers. I have played MMOs since 1999 and I have *never* purchased gold and never will. If I need gold I figure out ways *in-game* to make gold (shocking I know) because that is part of the game. Buying gold from some gold farming bot or exploiter is not part of the game. Neither is the cash shop. It's just a filthy short cut for people who can't be bothered to play the game.

I think people also need to stop labeling this as "P2W". The selling of motifs is clearly not P2W in the classical sense but I don't think P2W should be the standard for what should or shouldn't be in the cash shop. The real test is whether or not the item being sold is disruptive to the game. P2W items would obviously be included in the category of disruptive but it would also include items that disrupt the economy (motifs) or even items that disrupt the lore or setting of the game. Sparkling, unicorn rainbow mounts wouldn't be "P2W" if they were the same as other mounts but if they sold them in the cash shop it would be completely disruptive to the game.
