Wow, it was one little friendly message because it was national pet day.

If this ruined your day, I feel sorry for you.

Honestly I don't really care either way, it takes a lot for me to have a strong negative opinion about something, something I care strongly about at that, if it's not something I care about too much or if it's not negative enough to affect me then I'm indifferent, and cash shop stuff on games has never really bothered me. If something I think is pretty neat is on there and I can afford to spend a few extra bucks on it sure I'll get it, but if not I won't, just cause I don't like it doesn't mean someone else won't, and to hell why should I care what someone else does or doesn't do, does or doesn't buy, or does or doesn't like?

And what, the advertisement for pet day or whatever it was? I wasn't online when it happened, but what was it just one of those little messages that float in the air for a few seconds like when a quest stage progresses or whatnot? Can be a nuisance if I'm reading a book at the moment I suppose, gotta wait a couple seconds before I continue reading, but I take it they only did it once or a couple times during the day aye? I'd be more concerned about the messages that pop up every dang time someone in Cyrodiil drops or picks up an Elder Scroll, or puts it in in a fortress or whatever it is, that happens dozens of times a play session some days.

Actually, is there a way to turn off those Cyrodiil Elder Scroll updates? Aside from abandoning a campaign of course.

Anyway I'd say it's overreacting to complain about some little message popping up for a couple seconds a couple of times on a single day when that happens countless of times with quests and Elder Scroll Cyrodiil updates but hey, maybe people like complaining about stuff like that, maybe it's a good stress reliever or something, takes your mind off of more important things going on in your life? Kills some time? Eh, whatever the reason, to each their own.

I don't mind advertisements on the Launcher but I don't want them popping up in the game itself. I'll even give them some flex room and let them put up an advertisement for something on the character selection screen like WoW does.

Do you guys realize that April 11th is really National Pet Day? Like, it's a real day inside the US. Like Mother's Day.

And did you know that Mother's Day was created to sell junk?

If you don't like capitalism, cast your vote against it in the elections that happen IRL.

If you're coming to the Official Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited° forums to complain about consumerism, you're doing it wrong.

Unless anyone in this thread is prepared to overthrow the system and establish a socialist utopia, you need to stop whining about advertising. Capitalism requires it, and it has zero effect on you.

The advertisement is okay at the moment, in my opinion.

It's just a question of "HOW" and "WHERE". If the advertisements are small or in form of a letter, it's absolutely okay.

Is anyone saying that they need to stop advertising completely? No? didn't think so.

They can advertise their wares on the launcher, or on the sign-in screen or anywhere else and it doesn't bother me that much. But once I am playing, I expect to be able to play without having sales shoved in my face.

If you went to a movie, you'd likely expect some product placement in there for sodas, shoes, etc. But if the characters stopped acting for 30 seconds in the middle of the movie to do an ad for Coke, you'd probably be upset.

You have set up a nice false dichotomy there saying that if you don't like ads in certain places, we must be trying for a socialist utopia. And that isn't what anyone is saying here.

    Exactly.

It's not like they're spamming anyway. From what I recall, it only showed up in the chat window also, meaning you could just turn off system messages in your chat window settings.

But I'm perfectly fine with them announcing items in the crown store when those items are tied into notable days/events/holidays.

I don't mind, but I do think we should start calling them Zo$ from now on. Heck even before the game came out we saw the money grabbing.

How dare they want to make money for the work they do. This game should be run as an anarchist commune!

I'm not even going to vote on this. I don't like advertising in the game, but I'm also not going to be surprised or upset that they do it. Seems like a pretty trivial matter to get worked up about to me.

Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.

I cant believe people get so upset over a simple message on the LOG IN PAGE. Cant you find other things to waste your time and anger on? You people realize that is zos doesnt make money the game isn't going anywhere right?

Except it was not on log in screen it was flashed multiple times across your game screen like the game was going down, or a new emperor was crowned, scroll changed hands, etc

and it was not a deal of the day, or even a deal at all. Same prices, same junk

Low standards by *some* players is why the game keeps getting worse and worse. That is a nice as I can say it without it getting mod'ed.

I believe there should be every advertisement they can put on a loading screen etc. What else are you going to look at? Here is a little fact for you sport: if they do not make enough revenue through sales - this game goes away. They can not continue supporting this title if there is no revenue. So advertise and promote the crown store, by all means. Make more stuff and let us know about it. I would suggest that there revenue team (the guys who decide what to put in the Crown Store) actually hire someone for the sole purpose of reading the forums so that they can get a good idea at what players actually want instead of making a single pet dog and coloring it 15 shades. Let's get creative revenue team - there are a LOT of really good ideas here in the forums. There is enough that it needs a single full-time Community liason that does nothing but promote constructive ideas for the crown store.

    Wait.

    Hold on.

    Just stop everything.

You had to deal with a message? On your screen? For a few seconds?

That sounds awful. And ZO should clearly offer free counseling to those who were traumatized by this event. I didn't understand before, but I'm here in solidarity now.

To be clear, I don't like advertisements shoved down my throat, but let's look at the alternatives.

Do we want LotRO-style "CLICK ME!" buttons all over every GUI? Do we want underhanded and dishonest methods in use to trick us into buying stuff?

If this is the only way ZOS can fund the game, then having a periodic banner for a few seconds once a week or so isn't going to be so annoying that I'll rant and rage about it on the forums. I'll just close my eyes when it happens and ignore it.

Everyone, after me: sit in the Lotus position, close your eyes, and mumble, "La la la la la la la ne ne ne ne ne ne Ohwa taegu siam ohm ohm ohm erg erg newton newton..."

It'll all go away and you'll feel much better afterwards.

ummm, that is exactly what they did. There seems to be some confusion and maybe @Valen_Byte should edit the poll so ppl stop voting yes "log in/loading screens" are okay, when its not where the spam was.

I believe I agreed to it in the TOS or something.

I do think they could reduce the font size however considering I took a crap load of damage and couldn't see where it came from because the message was in the way. In addition I think the frequency may of been a little too much.

I agree it is immersion breaking. It's funny how ZOS defends they're minimalist (i.e. crappy) UI by stating they're going for a more immersive game then turns around and puts a ticker style advert splashed in enormous font across the field of view.

But hey I agreed to it so yea.....it's acceptable....but I certainly don't like it. You didn't have a vote option for that so had to vote acceptable.
