What kind of messed up rules for football do you have around you where they kick goals? Do you mean score touchdowns or kick field goals?

I was in the beta, didn't buy eso at launch. Got it right after christmas because I love it. Obviously I want to be strong, but I play because I think it's a great game where you are free to be whoever you want to be....

I play games for fun and an escape into another world, if I was not having fun I would not be here, so yes me and my friends are still having fun and don't see and end to it for along time.

    "Fun" is subjective.

Browsing through the forums I read about character build this and farming mats that. Playing the game I get innundated with ads for trade guilds and people buying and selling items that dropped for free - and charging hundreds and thousands not just for items but apparently for "stacks" (100 of them? I don't really know).
    -
I hear folks talk about how they had to rebuild their character or change class because he/she/it wasn't competitive or DPS'y or whatever "enough". People asking advice not to enjoy, but to find the "best build".

Standard response #1: Different things are fun for different people. I have, however, definitely noticed that these forums lean very heavily towards min/maxers and hardcores--even moreso than other games' forums.

Standard response #2: The people having fun just playing the game don't post on the forums. This is largely true. I'm usually very active on game forums, but for ESO I've stepped back and honestly I'm enjoying the game more. It keeps me from feeling pressured to achieve X DPS, run Y build or farm Z mobs.

I've gone through shared dungeons (delves, instances, who knows what they are called now) where I had to literally run and occasionally sprint to keep up with the hasty players who were aggravated because "this location is taking too long".

What happened to actually enjoying? Exploring? Cracking jokes about why does the cliff racer look like an Archaeopteryx? Or why mudcrabs are so much smaller suddenly?

    Just wondrin'

I consider vertically progressing and customizing my characters to be fun. So yes. Should they not continue to elaborate on this (especially teh vertical progression part) then I will cease to have fun and will probably move on.

I have high hopes for ESO lets hope they don't go full super casual teddy bear mode.

In my opinion, if you're not playing this or any game for fun, then you're stupidly wasting your money.

I play for fun, I've quit more MMO's than I've quit mind altering substances.

Half the fun is relaxing and taking on some quests, the other half is becoming as powerful as you possibly can within the games constraints.

Some players play for just one style, but they are in the minority. Most players want to achieve that "elitist" status eventually because it allows more freedom to do what you want and do it more effectively.

Like Tehmagnus has said, if his play-style is elitist he's probably earned that by doing lots of content over many hours, if he doesn't feel like babysitting a newbie (like myself) I don't care because I'm not a needy, selfish child.

Most hardcore players are willing to help with tips, but don't act entitled to people's time and then pat each other on the back saying it's how they should act and that they should be nice.

I wouldn't be paying to play this game if it wasn't fun. I love the progression and skill system in this game and the game mechanics though rage inducing when I die are very fun and unique compared to other MMO's even the mounts have weight and depth in this game and aren't cast time for 100% movement speeds.

Everyone's idea of fun is different. Part of the fun of ESO for me is asking "What if?" and dreaming about what ESO COULD be...

    So far I've posted:
    • An In-game resting suggestion (Camps/Inns & bonuses)
    • Tool crafting concepts
    • Ideas for utility pets
    • bags within bags suggestions
    • Alternate carried items (torches)
    • Auto-grouping for dungeons
    • Mobile App suggestions
    • A /LFG chat channel
    • Merchant specific perks
    • Over-encumbered options
    • More interactive hirelings
    • Khajiit overhaul
    • Skooma production & addiction concepts
    • Horse Rental concept
    • Horse AI suggestion
    • In-Game ZOS developer Events
    • Quest desertion concept
    • Player created content (creation kit)
    • 3 phase housing release plan
    • Hireable NPC companion concept
    • Instigation concept for NPCs and Players

And believe me, I'm not done. I love writing these and dreaming of the future and improvements. No matter how much negative feedback I receive for some of these ideas (pretty much no one liked the Over-encumbered options idea. lol) or how little people comment (In-Game ZOS developer Events had one person comment) I will continue to post them because THIS is part of what is fun about ESO for me. :disagree:

    To each his own!
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

Regarding the main topic, how many people who have fun ingame actually bother to cut it off and log on the forum to write about it, instead of continue playing and having fun? People come here mainly to complain or ask questions, such as yourself OP.... and there are the maintainance times, where more people log in on the forums than ever before.

    xD

Most of us are having fun, or we wouldn't be playing;) "Fun" can be different though. It would be nice if BOTH powergamers and casual players tried to respect each others' opinions. I've personally looked at every flower and read every single word of dialogue available while leveling my main, then got bored, then started learning the dungeons and stuff and now I have all those fancy Deadlands adepts and all titles:) Looking at flowers was fun. Doing my best and working with a wonderful team to achieve COA no death was fun. There's no contradiction there.

There's a lot of people out there who have done all the content 3*times+ though, can't expect them to listen to dialogues. For people who wanna skip everything and rush to "endgame" first time through, well, I think they're missing out on a lot, too, but that's their choice. Most of my group content I did with friends who either enjoyed dialogues themselves or didn't mind waiting. The few instances I pugged first time through, I told them I'm going to listen to dialogue as we grouped. If after that they went with me and chose to rush on without waiting for healer(me :P), well, good job, glorious death.

Some people definitely don't play for fun. I saw the most terrible VR14 grinding mobs 1x at a time in Spellscar a few days ago. Upon laying down a few heals for him/her and a few random hits on a mob to help them out, I was told to "f*** off" and to "get my own mob".

Sorry after watching you die a few times and nearly die everytime you pulled 1x mob (that's right 1x, not even a proper 3-4x mob pull) I thought I'd lend a hand. Hey afterall, we are all just trying to grind out a few last skills on our characters.

Go back to Skyrim if you cannot take sharing the world with others, and if you cannot enjoy the game enough to smile and have fun whilst levelling your characters.

I've seen that a few times in recent weeks, prior to that it just never happened that I had seen.

On top of that I've had 2x guys in random delves/dungeons just sit there barking orders and blaming every single person for their own faults. Nerd rage isn't cool, in fact it would likely get you smacked in the mouth if you tried it in real life.

Other than that, most the people I come across have fun and have a good attitude. I constantly bump into randoms and end up dancing/playing instruments/chatting etc. I've had some awesome quest and dungeon runs with randoms as well, where you make a good friend or 2. The interactions with other people in this game are generally positive, and I see a lot of fun being had.

TL;DR- don't get your spirits down OP. There are some numpties out there who love misery. But mostly there is a lot of fun to be had and great people to meet.

So his idea of having fun is being unnecessarily and ignorantly rude in a virtual world what's the issue here? Methinks Americans need a thicker skin.

Depends on where your fun is. Many people find fun in optimization and finding the best ways to be better, the fastest ways to earn gold, the fastest ways to earn mats, you know, facing a challenge.

99% of the random people you'll find in game just want to clear things fast to get their reward and move on to something else instead of taking their time to listen to the story of a dungeon they've cleared 250 times already.

So you are telling me that they are having so much "fun" that it's driving them nuts when they can't grind instantly ..... this is clearly a new definition of "fun" for me.

I guess I'll pass on adopting it

There's a lot of people out there who have done all the content 3*times+ though, can't expect them to listen to dialogues.

There are some situations (group delves) where say, I've been there before (I'm thinking of Banished Cells which I've done 'new' with two characters so far, and 'assisted' with about four other times) so sometimes I don't even have the option to listen to the dialogue again.

So I make a point of telling the 'new' person (whose first time this is) not to rush. It's an interesting story, and I do get to hear enough of it to recreate what's going on. I'd be willing to listen all over again - but it's not always possible.

For that matter, in a game with 3 factions and 8 possible characters, to put it mildly, there is going to be a certain amount of repetition. This allows for developing the different personalities/reactions to situations. Role playing. Fun.

    Or maybe it's just me.
