Veteran Rank Fail!

gothicsatanica
Am i the only one who is angry with how veteran rank was added to the game... I don't want to be forced to do other factions quests if I wanted to play as that faction I would of made my character in that faction in the first place, also the fact that dungeons grinding and player vs player gives next to no veteran experience. Its lazy and i think if they don't make a change the game is going free to play, I my self have ceased playing and i can see a lot of other players doing the same once they see how lazy and broken end game is....... I been playing elder scrolls games since Arena and playing mmo's for 13 years this is a big let down.

I would have suggested you actually research on what Veteran Ranks are before making this thread...it's a disturbing trend that people hardly know a lot of facts before coming to the forums to vent....

I disagree. I'm very much so looking forward to doing the other areas on my healer. I like the idea of gaining further levels in a powerful version of other faction's areas. I love that I can see all the content on one character. I've been playing MMOs for 11 years (almost 12), and I've played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.. and this MMO is the most fun and involving that I've played in a long time. Does that mean my opinion cancels yours out, effectively?

I love how almost everyone that dislikes something about the game claims that something is going to be the reason the game goes F2P.

when are morons not complaining on the internet?

maybe if they hadn't gone back and put hands in first person and any other IMMERSIVE crap they may have been a bit further along than they were at launch.
They certainly didn't listen to their testers.

Heaven forbid a game designer makes challenging end game content. If you, like another poster suggested) read about the veteran ranks you would see the benefits of getting to VR10 but also the challenge within it. If you want to stop at 50 and make a new toon to explore the other factions, more power to you as that's how YOU want to experience the game. I myself am a "one toon" kind of guy which is why i cant get into MMO's in general. By allowing me to experience all the content on one toon I am enjoying this game immensely.

TLDR: Don't listen to these folks TESO team, the 25% will always whine about something.

I like how the vet ranks were added. It lets you see the other factions areas and quests without rolling a alt. I do however wish they would have changed some of the quests so they fit your own faction better instead of actually fighting against your own faction at times. Also I am enjoying the difficulty but I am pretty sure they will nerf all of the VR content in time so the more casual player will actually be able to complete it.

I just hit VR2 yesterday and I like playing the other factions quests. I wouldn't want to have to grind the same quests in the same faction to increase my rank, and this way I get to see all of the content with one character. In PVP I'm still a part of my original faction which is good, and Craglorn looks like it will be a fun adventure zone once I hit VR

To complain that 'grinding' dungeons doesn't give enough reward is to say that grinding should be a requirement. I've spent all of two hours grinding on my VR2; the reason I like this game is because I haven't felt much need to grind because there's so much content across all three factions.

And with your years of game design and experience in the industry i have no doubt that you, and only you, know what the industry standard of "laziness" is. Its cool to have your own opinion but to say "no your all wrong and its lazy", closing the door to constructive conversation (which most people who are "right" do) your not making your point of view very credible.

Your point was that rather than hit 50 and stop leveling, being required to do the same for dungeons over and over and over again or grind pvp for a set of gear, so that when the new content comes along you are probably over geared for it. They offer you the option of doing the other faction story lines, while getting to see what effects your choices had during the main story ( could be wrong on this last bit, but I swear I heard it in one of the dev videos.)

I think I see the problem here. You want activity over Story. Thats a valid point I guess.

Yeah. When you use words like "white knight" or "fanboy," you kind of destroy your own point.

You've had plenty of well-reasoned posts in this thread about why Veteran Ranks allow you access to the other factions' quest lines, and most of it revolves around story. If you'd prefer to play an endgame that revolves around grinding the same content over and over, well... you know what game to go play...

So.. I see one person in the thread referring to complainers on the internet in general as morons... and that's it for name calling. Well.. aside from you calling anyone who disagrees with you a White Knight anyway. Kinda ironic, that.

They could have said screw you, you're staying in your faction lands. But thankfully, they didn't. As much as I understand how angry you are about ranks, I for one love the fact that your able to travel to the other faction places. More places to explore, more lore books to be had. More enemies to face. '

O no, somebody posted something on internet.

This one is looking on the build up below the base or Argonian tails.
If prepared correctly it will repel trolls making it far more useful than random internet posts.

The other option to veteran levels had be an gear grind.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

Considering I am part of an older gamer group who dislikes cross realming...I enjoy doing the other faction quests on my DC toon.

The disgusting thing is that guilds cross over to other factions so you can easily spy on the other faction making PVP a joke and people trade instead of play as intended.

There's more bugs in endgame veteran rank 10 than any other level but that's another story. They shouldn't have pigeon holed us into questing or not leveling and experiencing the other factions at all. Trying to make the game slower to level they have in fact ruined the endgame content for a lot of people who are focused levelers whom may have wanted to enjoy the story line but were forced to choke down hundreds of quests in order to reach the aspect of the game they wanted to play.
Now most people won't want to make alternate characters due to the linear route in which they will be force into all over again.

You can't be a "focused leveler" (read: someone who wants to churn through content as fast as possible to "win" the game) and "enjoy the storyline." Those are mutually exclusive.

I've been playing for 5 days of in-game time and I'm just about to reach 50. I'm sure you can do it faster, but don't pretend you were trying to take in the story at the same time.

It's not about doing one or the other, i'm saying if they gave me the option to grind mostly via killing mobs and side quests and exploration id be content to max my lvl with that and enjoy the story line when i get around to it, instead they made it a requirement to do the the main story line to progress.

Oh no! Story in an RPG!

As far as I've heard, you can grind to your hearts content, but if you're looking for sympathy that this method isn't as effective as actually playing the game, you'll probably want to go somewhere else. This is an MMORPG. Not an MMOclickfest.

elder scrolls isn't about grinding or trying to reach max level as one of the first pioneers. it is a role playing game to immerse yourself into and enjoy a story and feel you're apart of it. my first elder scroll game was morrowind, i learned that game all by myself- and when the story finally started unfolding in front of me i couldnt believe how my mind was blown and i knew i was hooked

I think some of the problem here is that you have two conflicting fan bases.

On the one hand you have the "typical" TES fan who wants ton of story, lore, and or interesting characters to interact with and for the most part enjoys the journey rather than the destination. They enjoy the RPG part of MMORPG

On the other hand you have the "Typical" MMO fans who want end game raiding, pvp,min/max gearing etc. They tend to enjoy the game as a semi competition of sorts IE Who gets the worlds first, which progression level of raiding they are in, what bracket in pvp etc.

Personally I have played many MMO's as well as all of the TES games. I am a mixture of both, I love to rp my characters, learn the lore, experience the story, as well as end game raiding. I am kind of hoping ESO can merge both worlds and make everyone happy, but the more I read the forums and see the vitrol spewed from both sides, the more I wish they had just made another single player game.

I didn't think the primary objective ever, in any mmo, was leveling your character?
I thought it was to play the game? In fact I'm pretty certain it is, and like you I've been playing MMOs and gaming in general for far too long.

Gaining levels is a byproduct of playing the game. Not the reason you play the game. Why do people find this so hard to understand?

so your saying to the ESO staff to ignore us?

HAVE YOU SEEN the amount of things FANS have requested for ESO future update? most of it were already in the previos elder scrolls and werent lorebreaking. One thing ive learnt on this forum is that many are ignorant. When a majority or even a minority are requesting for something to be added to a game or to be changed or to be improved..theres always some trolls who say no dont etc etc. Its like saying fans for a football club to buy better players for a better CLUB whereas in this case a game..and some fans saying no we like it how it is dont add new ideas/players to the game/club. Yall like losing? Lol thats why some games stay in a state where it is too late to be improved as everybody has given up. This game has been out for 2 weeks and already we have a crap load of requests and most of them are reasonable. ESO IF YOU READ THIS!----> please understand why we request so much or say to change things etc because we make the game as big as it can get, thanks to us the people who purchase your game; we are just as much supporters to the game as the developers are. we have played so many mmos and rpgs that the fans know best as well as the developers what to add in the game or what to change. And honestly I can say this game is a disappointment to an EXTENT. first of all level 50 is too low as the end game max level. this game feels simplistic and reductionist from what the other ES games had. Look at runescape for example, very similar to ESO..they have a grand exchange or banks in each city, and thats where the community is at its strongest and this game doesnt have it..and yall complain why there is no social aspect to this game..theres so many requests we have and we would appreciate it so much that you atleast give it a read. Thank you.
