Do we get to tell Tanlorin to back off?

I'm trying their starter quest just because I want to unlock their passive ability, but within the first few minutes they've already made several remarks about my character being attractive. It's generic, crude, and a little creepy just being forced to listen to their advances. Do we get to eventually tell them to knock it off or turn them down? Do they stop doing it after awhile? I don't think I can stomach forced flirtations from a character I don't like. I should report them for breaking TOS on harassment.

This kind of thing is something that really truly creeps me out too.... I don't want pixels in a game making moves on my pixels in the same game.

No matter if Naryu, Jakarn, Tanlorin or whatever obnoxious "flirty" npc: We really need an option to tell them to leave us alone. Or to give them a slap across their face (or hit them with a brick or whatever - I don't care as long as it's effective).

What spoilers? You clicked on a thread about Tanlorin and you haven't even done the first five minutes of their starter quest? I only just met them and they've hit on my character three times. Don't look now, but Tanlorin also has tattoos.

It really makes me wonder what was going on in the writers room, if the character was written for their own fantasy or if they actually think the characters are charming.

I'll be glad for the introduction of the multiple dialogue choices.

Oh for pity's sake. I don't know about Malyore, but y'know, I'm a nearly 80 year old woman, and I can certainly tell when convos have "something more than kindness in mind". They are the same sort of smarmy that Jakarn et al are.

Tanlorin does flirt but it's not as much as Jakarn. I also wouldn't really call them hitting on the adventurer really. They have that says flirty things to everything and everyone vibe. It's not serious.

I don't care for the intention. If it feels obtrusive, it does, and the player character should have an option to react.

I mean some people will react that way to ALL flirting. I don't have a problem with them adding a way to disable certain lines, especially with the companions following you around. This way people who hate all flirty characters in video games don't have to hear it. But, also, they only say something a couple of times. When you first meet them, they are clearly more into someone else. I won't give spoilers.

That's good to know. Thank you for answering the post, btw. Maybe I will try to continue their quest then.

I hope it does become clear that they like someone else. I mean, it's already obvious they're into just about everyone, with how they recall some of their prior encounters. I was worried the remarks towards us were gonna stay so densely packed through every quest.

I'm not sure if there are cultural differences at play, but when I'm friendly and encouraging towards friends (let alone strangers), I listen to them, consider their worries, tell them my ideas about the situation (if they want to hear them), and try to improve their self-confidence if they're too self-critical. I do not jump on their lap, yell "Hey good-looking!" repeatedly, and invite them into my bathtub.

You're right, that example refers mostly to Naryu and Jakarn who I mentioned earlier in this thread. Tanlorin's dialogue lines feel just as obtrusive, though.

Remember the new player dialogue changes from earlier this year? Where we can select the tone of our responses in new quests going forward?

I really hope future Companions utilize that new system. It'd be nice to have more agency in how we communicate with them.

It is even worse when they "Flirt" when your character was made to be intentionally repulsive.

My character is a male Necromancer with the decaying zombie skin, extensive burn scars and Azure eyes, he has long hair and a long beard, he has the Worm Wizard personality which given the way said personality makes you act suggests there is something mentally wrong with him

Meanwhile they try to "Flirt" with that?

Yeah, I could not handle them at all. The constant flirting was over-the-top obnoxious, and then the fact that every other quest involved them giving some aside about a fling they had with random person XYZ. Like honestly, I don't need to hear about what you do behind closed doors! Leave me out of it!

And that's just my personal opinion based on my irl self. As for being in character, well... I play an Orc. If anyone comes up to me and starts talking about how good looking I am, I instantly know that they're full of [snip] and are just trying to butter me up to use me for something.

So yeah, Tan was the fastest I'd ever levelled a character because I as not about any of that.

I didn't interpret what they said as flirting myself. I find Tanlorin a very bubbly and enthusiastic (a bit too much for me personally, but that's a separate topic) person, who's very much into aesthetics. After all, they always have positive things to say about flowers and furnishings. This is, imo anyway, where their comments come from. To me, there's a bit of a difference between someone saying, "I appreciate you!", and "I appreciate you, you know.....".

I mean, you can also say that several of the other companions also express their appreciation for the player very overtly and enthusiastically: Zerith, Mirri and Isobel.

I came back after a long break from ESO most interested in getting some High Rock lore quests in the "Legacy of the Bretons" arc only to find these weapons grade cringe amorous pixelstrons on top of being disappointed that it was really just more Three Banners War stuff. This stuff should really be exclusively limited to the optional dialogue trees, and probably player-side initiating (Jakarn and Arabelle are just about the ONLY NPCs I have ever skipped optional dialogue with).
