Scribing is going to render the community insane (and not in the positive way)

This feels exactly like the Psijic line problem, a huge grind for a necessary thing that leads to people doing it once then just buying it off the Crown store for other characters.

if all of the scripts and stuff have to be earned per character, i see myself using this system very little in the future, or at least for a couple years until my characters have enough scripts to use the grimoires

it seems like the account upgrades just make it so you can earn scripts and ink on other characters, but in order to actually do anything with the system you have to re-learn all of the scripts to be able to customize the skills

ive already gotten fed up with needing to unlock companions on every character, and most of my toons dont rank up the other skill lines past rank 1 (they do the intro for psijic just to get ability to see the temporal rifts) unless i actually want a skill to use from them

Real new gold sink is empty soul gems, 156 gold from merchant And less gold generated by vendoring filled gems.

I could have sworn they were quoted multiple times as saying "6ish hours" for the main quest which you only need to do once, "15ish minutes" for the intro quest which each character needs to complete to gain access. So what? This was a lie?

I'm okay with buying anything per character because the game needs more gold sinks, but damn.. not this.

They actually did quite a good job with where scripts are obtained, you have the choice for each category of what type of content you want to take part in to obtain them.

Although the quests were monotonous, you do have the option to skip the different wings on each of your characters.

As far as systems go, Scribing is a home run, now they just need to keep supporting it like all of the other recent systems.

I haven't been able to try it yet, but your quoted screenshot is how I expected it to work vs what OP is saying? Seems to be conflicting statements. I'm a bit confused to be honest. I guess I just have to try it... but I wanted to wait for live to experience it first hand.

I don't mind the gold sink, or having to grind resources to scribe skills. But having to unlock everything on 20 characters is a no-go ZOS.

@Faulgor - Accounts upgrades are the ability to get the scripts by questing lol and ink with resources and enemy drops. That's about it lol

@JerBearESO - Yes (kinda), like all "affix" scripts will be unlocked with the same type of quests but the affix script you're getting per said quest is random yep. Drop chance is guaranteed tho. So let's say you need brittle on a char, you either are lucky and do 1 quest and get it OR unlucky and have to go through 18 more quests to get it.

Hmm yeah that's pretty frustrating.... I agree this is something that needs to be account based, or tradeable at least; I can stand buying things from guild shops, that's fine.

Thank you for testing this. Agree that books should be account wide at least. I'd be OK with one crafter character to have access to buy the books and be able to deposit them to the bank. But character bound is not great. Mindless grind of alts is horrible...

Sidenote--do we know how common the Ink drops are? It's been so fun to play with Scribing on the PTS, but it would be totally unfun if it was a rare resource like Transmute stones that you had to grind out. I'd hope it would be not quite as easy as respeccing skills, but more in that line.

Ink is resource that goes into craft bag, so should be tradeable at least.

i saw this as well and thats what i was anticipating, not that much per-character stuff to do except maybe the intro quests, but i dont go on the pts myself so i havent seen what its like right now

Can I ask someone to confirm I'm understanding the pricing right?

It's 45k per Grimoire for the 9 other than Soul Burst, which is 9k. That's 405k gold for the first set of Grimoires, not counting Soul Burst.

Then it's 10k per Grimoire on alts after you have acquired it for the first time on another character?

@virtus753 When I made my guide, it was on week 1 pts. Everything costed 10k. What the hell were they thinking by increasing the price.

@Telos_Tim @MashmalloMan That merchant only sells 2 to 3 scripts and has a rotating shop like the weekly vendor or archives shop. It will not give you all the scripts straight away

Thanks for the info. Guess I better stay away from getting Gold Road. Apart from having to get the companions per character now I have to hunt down new abilities, spend gold (which I don't have), complete dailies before I can get them for just one character? This is clearly designed to sell us boosters in a future.

I might not even bother with this system beyond my main, i still have never done the psijic questline on any alt due to it being so tedious, this will be no different.

I mean I get it. Increases player retention and promotes interaction between players (sort of) for sharing dailies between themselves is overall good for the game, but come on. It's kinda excessive to refarm scripts for every char if you want to experiment with different classes.

Not to mention that new players just joining with Gold Road are not going to have that gold on hand to be able to use most of the marquee system introduced with the chapter for quite some time. In previous chapters we've been asked for our time (to do quests, to level skills, to farm leads, etc.) or for crowns or gold to skip some of the grind (e.g. buying skill lines on alts, buying antiquities after we've gotten three, etc.). Now we're being asked for a significant amount of gold to unlock the new skills (over 400k for the first character, 100k(?) for each alt) on top of a significant amount of time to unlock the customization on top of the real-world paywall for the chapter.

Having played for over 7 years, I have enough gold that the price for these Grimoires will be an annoyance but won't actually break the bank. As a new player, however, I'd get a very clear message from this that this game will not stop at the typical choice of money, time, or gold but will ask me to pay three times over to be able to use the content. It would not be a great first impression at all, and I'd seriously reconsider if that's the kind of game I want to become involved in.

@Soraka as a PvP player you can get 16 scripts with rewards of the worthy, 14 with Cyro dailies and 19 with IC dailies. For the remaining 10, you have a chance to get scraps from pvp (Unsure since PvP on PTS is barely possible sorry) and 9 you will have to fetch in specific location.
The guide I posted above shows them all

The ones from rewards of the worthy, do they just drop occasionally and randomly, or are they a guaranteed drop until you get them all?

If you skip some of the wings quests on your alt, does that alt still get the ability to receive luminous Ink. from enemies and resource nodes?

That's a lot of gold and a lot of time. I guess I don't need Gold Road after all. WIth that amount of gold I can buy a house and still have some left over for furnishings.

I just don't see the new system as worth that to me.
