Now that the game is almost ten years old, can we address jumping without cost?

Jumping avoids some enemy offensive capability and sometimes puts the jumping user in a better position for acting on their enemy, yet it costs nothing in return. In contrast, a dodge roll cost stamina. Class-specific or weapon-specific skills of dodge or avoidance techniques all cost some resources and have an associated cost, yet jumping is still free. I see people jumping up and down constantly in ESO dungeons and ESO PvP, which is fine, but a reduction in a resource should be attached to that activity.

Please no. As you said, game is ten years old. I vote we stop messing with this sort of thing completely

I believe the game was five or six years old when perma-blocking tanks were fixed. It is time to fix free jump damage mitigation. This game is not Fortnite.

PvE here. Jumping is fine as is. If you add a stamina cost, then add a climbing mechanic to go over boulders and climb walls. Unintended but part of the game? That sounds a lot like light attack weaving. . . .

PvP. Don't care, battle spirit whatever you want as long as it doesn't infect PvE jumpers.

Totally agree with you make it PvP only.

Is this ESO or real life? Yeah, thought so.

It is not, but jumping still should take away from a pool of energy for the player. The act should not be fee if it provides a defensive benefit. If not, nor should other defensive skills, this game is not Fortnite.

Contrary to blocking, dodging or even sprinting, jumping is a "defensive skill" only if enemy can't use his mouse/controller.

I don't believe the enemy type of physical controller or virtual automated macro (violation of EULA) has anything to do with damage mitigation due to free AKA in-game no-cost jump action in PvP combat. Just like perma-block in the past, the action can be performed without an assumed cost.

Like I already said it's only a damage mitigation if enemy don't know how to use mouse or controller to aim.

So maybe moving the camera should also cost stamina so it wouldn't be free counter to jumping that consumes stamina?

What I want to know is what the crap mechanics does jumping let you avoid? And I'm tired of people demanding changes based on pvp, particularly when they don't specify pvp. Largest part of the game is NOT pvp.

Jumping is actually a really detrimental habit in PvP.

As someone who considers her focus PvP, I would definitely quit this game if they made jumping cost something. I, out of habit or whatever, constantly jump in games when I move. I don't necessarily do it to evade or be harder to hit, I do it because my brain likes to idk. I have never struggled hitting someone who is jumping either and if the complaint is PvP based.... there is tab targeting and I'd question if they know that. It highlights the person and basically makes them impossible to miss, what more could one want.... or should I say need?

Oh, and as someone who takes house decorating very seriously.... I definitely jump a lot while doing so. I need to in order to make interesting custom furniture, to make sure things are lined up or centered, maybe I'm putting something up really high and am climbing on a bunch of tables.... who knows, but jumping is definitely a core part of completing a house for me.

OH, I'm not in favor of adding a cost, I'm just trying to figure out why it's necessary.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that you were, sorry if it came off that way. I just wanted to put out there that this change isn't something desired by many PvP players and also doesn't make sense to me, a PvP player xD

I'm not for this change at all, and think it's really bad, but if for some really crazy reason this actually gets implemented I hope you can still jump with 0 stamina left for the sake of ease of use. If you get stunned with 0 stamina you're not breaking free, but I still wanna jump like I can in TES4: Oblivion if I have no stamina. :p

i have never heard of one.

and changing ESO this way after 10 years really would be absurd.

Valheim and although its a different type of game, it works well as part of your characters progression.

No just no, this is one of the stupidest things I’ve see on the forums. In real life you use stamina to swing a sword or staff should we add a stamina cost to light and heavy attacks? I think not.

Yeah, can't say I've ever heard of this. And if there really is such a set.... then the problem that needs addressed is the set, not jumping.

I find it ridiculous when a bunch of people are hopping around in PvP combat. Sure, more often than not I end up dead, but at least I didn't behave like a monkey on skooma. I always thought the jumping around had some purpose, but even then I wouldn't agree to adding a stamina cost to it. Some people in this thread have said the bounce has no advantages, so if that's the case, nothing needs to change. Others have argued it does have advantages and, if so, remove whatever those are instead of making the action cost.

By the way, my distaste for the hop doesn't include those folks who jump around seemingly at random in cities. I actually find it relaxing to watch them.
