I always buy chapters eventually, when it's good for me. So much still to do. Got game pass ultimate last month but mostly played ESO when I had 100s of other games to play. May as well just get game pass core if I'm just playing ESO. Could spend the money I would have spent on ultimate on ESO's new chapter

I got so tired of the 3 chapters they released from 2020-2022. Maybe it was covid, but those new game mechanics should have been quarter 4 DLC's. Digging, Companions, and Tales of Tribute to be specific.

And yet, Antiquities have been a huge success in terms of OP mythics that most players apparently consider to be essential and are willing (with much grumbling and cursing) to grind for. I'm not into grinding, so I have barely any mythics, but scrying and excavating are okay by themselves-- they're not among my favorite in-game activities, by any means, but neither are they something I actively avoid.

Companions are also hugely popular, apparently even among some players who were initially against the concept. For myself, I try to clear as much content as I can without relying on a companion, although I do call on Bastian if I'm in a real crunch. I've collected only Bastian and Mirri on my primary server, and recently collected Bastian on my secondary server purely so I could use him to satisfy a Daily Endeavor in the Infinite Archive. I'm not against collecting the other companions; I just haven't done the quests to collect them yet.

So my own attitudes about Antiquities and Companions have been kind of so-so. But as for Tales of Tribute, I wasn't keen on the idea initially, but once I gave it a try it became one of my favorite in-game activities, one of my daily must-do activities.

Anyway, I'm glad you're looking forward to Gold Road! :)

    Obligatory Other Option
I don't preorder any games, especially now that the industry has moved away from physical copies to digital scarcity no longer exists. I was planning on buying at release, but now I need to see real care and effort in improving the Necromancer class not drastic changes with glaring flaws that anyone who plays the class would notice in five minutes, and actual implementation of habits/routines to improve their communication with the community in a sincere way. Not just saying we'll do better for the third time, but still be in the same situation two years later.

When that time comes and my Magcro doesn't feel like the red headed stepchild then I'll be opening my wallet back up.

No. The storyline is extremely basic in my opinion. The rewards do not appease to me. The armor sets that come out of there are nothing that excite me or anything that I could even use. I really don't find a need to spend that much money on a game side quest that offers me no benefits.

Had no intention to buy Necrom due to flashy lights and other issues. Picked it up much later at heavy discount for IA furnishing access. 0 regret.

Gold Road may be pay to win for pvp, giving me no choice - either move on to another game or buy it.

Given the likelihood everything is going to go up in flames for several weeks, then the nerf hammer will fall... and that most abilities have absurd channels on them -hoping to delay purchase. Eventually would pick it up for skill and furnishings.

*Side note -Watching a Skyrim stream recently made it obvious how much ESO has strayed from its roots. I do not want flashy animations and neon animals. Other games still provide the feeling that early ESO and Skyrim did -like Valheim and Enshrouded -but ESO... it's like Willy Wonka World.

It was the only piece of expansion content that I didn't already have (Scions of Ithelia came later), so why not?
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

Hard to tell at this point since it is only week 2 of the PTS and there has been very little change. I was hoping the Scribing and skill styling system enabled more player agency but so far it seems a bit more limited than I had hoped. Can't say I'm surprised though, every addition to the game up till now has had some pretty glaring issues holding it back, but we shall see in the upcoming weeks if it is worth buying the chapter for.

I am not sure anymore. I intended to buy it for my main and all my ten alternate accounts but I have been denied gifting twice for all my accounts. Since they consider me a cyber-delinquent for not meet their "proof of being a loyal and clean customer" then I may probably get it when it's on sale or never.

I don't preorder games, and for a game like ESO that is consistently discounted, see no reason to pay full price either.

I can't even remember if I've ever pre-purchased an ESO expansion before. Certainly not Elsweyr or later. I remember buying those after.

But scribing is probably the best addition to the game by far, even though perhaps less impressive than the leaked plans for the original version.

Unfortunately I didn't see the videos for scribing until after the early pre-order bonuses ended so missed out on those.

I preordered it on my main and alt. Wanted the pre-purchase bonuses (raven pet, costume, mount, pet, crate, CE treasure maps (which dropped leads with Necrom if they continue that trend))

Will get way more playtime out of ESO than some other random $50 game which I'd likely quit after a few hours. Looking forward to it and hopefully will be caught up on questing in 2024.
