Disabling crown gifting is a bad idea

They just need to add Crown COD "gifting". They way they forced the use of third parties to extage crown to gold is what cause this "fraud" to begin with.

    It's not permanent.

Unless they provide an estimated time for a fix it effectively is.

Temporary is for a limited amount of time. Nothing in that definition says there needs to be an end date specified.

Im all for battling fraud , but gold to crown gift shouldnt be restricted...... So ingame gold has no more value, You have million of golds but cant buy nothing.. And gifting other players should be punished.. I gifted good friends (gold to crown exchange) dlcs and stuff that they couldnt get to have fun in this game... Must say after edgame and doing everything there is nothing else to do. JUst have fun with friends...
They enjoyed playing with us, because before they coulntd aford it.. NOw... it looks more like big f u for all normal players...
But no worries, this answers my question of needing to buy eso + for this year... And i think im not the only one.. You took away the crates.... We overcome it... Now this. Cant even gift my pal a hat that looks dope or to make fun at him....

That's just technicalities. We already have a less than optimistic example of this (crown crates), and without a defined timeframe there's no reasons to believe that this is gonna be any better.
Besides, blocking crown sales until the game shuts down would also technically be "temporary".

Years ago I was becoming frustrated with the declining performance of the game. I told myself "it's not permanent! They said they are working on something in a livestream."

I've since graduated high school and college. I'm also still waiting on those Cyrodiil performance improvements :)

When Zenimax says they are working on something, they are working on something for your grandchildren to enjoy.

I've purchased way more in game with gold than crowns. Almost all of my houses were purchased with gold, and furnishings and mats to craft furnishings.

I do hope they get gifting back up and running soon but crowns are not the only way players buy things.

There are more honest people on this game than scammers. The crown store is so ridiculously expensive so those honest players now have no way of getting most of the only cool things in the game. Wasn’t the last patch meant to “improve life” in ESO or something? How the hell isn’t this announcement incredibly ironic?

There are so many solutions to this. A few of which are:

    1. Allow items from the crown store to be bought with by gold at a reasonable ratio. Say, 1500:1 or something.
    2. Make daily endeavors count for WAY MORE and allow us to buy crown store items with endeavors.
    3. Or what someone else said: “lock crown gifting to accounts that have been active and in good standing for say 6 months and are cp level 500 for example. It creates enough of a barrier where even if you get a fraudster, when they get banned it would take so much time and effort to get another account up and running it just wouldn't be worth the time investment.”

IMHO, they’re doing this to ensure that people use real money to buy items. That isn’t okay. What’s the point anymore? I can’t think of a way more perfect way to make sure people spend their cash in the crown store than this.

This. Make it unpleasant and too much work for gold sellers and scammers. Account age, plus character level, plus cp level, plus friends list for x amount of time. Yeah would that suck for new players, sure. But at least they would know that after a certain amount of time they could trade and it also means people have to invest time in the game.
Gold sellers and credit card scammers are not going to bother to level and if they use bots to do it, then they will get caught. This also removes the desire for people to buy from them since they will have to friend them for months and I'd guess it'd be pretty easy for ZoS to figure out who is buying from scammers that way and boom both are banned.

I think there should be a vendor in game that allows you to trade in game gold for crown store items, but not the other way around so we cannot purchase gold with money.

My only hope is that with the whole gifting system now being disabled it will add a greater incentive to find a proper fix rather than the badly fitted sticking plaster of using support as a middle man for trades.

We can hope for an ingame gold to crown trade system but this is unlikely, Zos won't be making any money from it and it could cost them with the loss of subs as players switch over to that system instead if they don't care about the crafting bag.

People who are trading gold for crowns with other players already have their reasons for not spending real world currencies for their crown store purchases so this 'temp' disabling will not bring in any extra revenue for ZOS.

I mean if they are trying to kill the crown store sales this is an excellent way to go about it. I personally cannot drop 70-100 dollars on a house even once a year. But I have friends who can and happily take my gold in exchange.
Disable gifting and they stop buying all those crowns to help out guildmates by gifting in exchange for gold.
Exactly this. Joke's on ZOS if they think this will increase crown sales.

What an utterly out of touch decision.

There are still plenty of reasons to be hopeful about ESO's future if we maintain open and solution-focused communication.

I hate to dash your hopes against the jagged rocks of reality, but if you're pinning this game's future on communication between the devs and players, you might as well start playing FF XIV now

Honestly I wondered why they did not do this earlier when they were on 6months to "Fix" the other problem.

As a long term player I have both sold and bought crowns. I make gold to spend on silly things like the new crates and the new houses that I like. Kind of makes a lot of the things I do in game seem silly.

If you honestly thought that the system that you setup originally would not end up causing fraud, saying just gift the item to a person through a screen as not being questionable, I wonder what you were thinking.

I think it is necessary for older players, we have most of the stuff as an individual skill level player you CAN earn in game (I am not going to get Godslayer achievement because yeah no), so now it is the cosmetics and achievements that I CAN earn or crown buy that I play for. Kind of taking away a lot of my reason for gaming.

Make it so that you physically trade the crowns in the person trading window and move on. It gets you a nice log of what is being done and stops the players that "sell" crowns and then never send the item or get the item and never send the gold catastrophe that has been going since this whole thing started.

Well there goes my only way of being able to obtain future DLCs.....

I’m pretty sure that’s the intent. Instead of being able to get the DLCs from someone in exchange for gold, you’ll have to either sub or buy your own crowns. That’s a win for zeni

ZOS still got their money the seller had to buy crowns and purchase the DLC.

Not if they used a stolen credit card and the rightful owner of the card was refunded.

Which is probably what's happening, and why they're taking such decisive action.

Sometimes investigations and temporarily disabling stuff does take longer. Not everything in life happens quickly and instantly.

Just wanted to build on this point. We are working on building solutions that protect everyone when gifting crown store items. Investigating solutions and building those out does take time. We understand this is not deal. It isn't ideal for anyone not engaging in fraudulent behavior. It isn't ideal for us. However, we want to stress this is temporary as we are working out the best path forward. We don't know how long this will take, but we are working to resolve this as soon as we can.

Already posted y guys are under investigation months ago and there's still no improvements after that

This post is just no-brainer and an again-excuse.

They said they were working on fixing crown crate gifting and we’re like half a year later and it’s only getting worse. It does not seem temporary.

It is more likely that the behavior on the part of the players fraudulently using it is increasing. Seeing as there is a not a fix, it seems prudent to me to disable it until there is.

What? This whole thing never had anything to do with in game gold scammers. It's almost certainly zenimax trying to curb 3rd party crown sellers who purchased their crowns using either stolen credit cards or through using a VPN to Venezuela/Argentina in order to abuse the currency exchange rates.
