Disabling crown gifting is a bad idea

More and more it seems the game is doing everything it can to alienate the end game community, we have nothing to do with the gold we get at end game, now more than ever the pul to play something else grows bigger and bigger.

It's unfortunate, but I'm sure they don't want to alienate any part of the game community.

I hope they can arrive at a solution/fix for gifting in time for the holiday gift exchange; I enjoy participating in that, and though crown gifts aren't the only thing that gets shared at that time, they are a big part of it.

Yeah. For me personally, being able to earn stuff in game is very important, and I spend a lot of time farming stuff I can sell (dungeon masks, writs and the like).
Without the ability to buy crown gifts, there will be no cosmetic goals to work towards and I will have significantly less motivation to play. The amount of cosmetics you can earn ingame is very limited, and some of them require insane feats such as trial trifectas.

No it's not but for people that accumulate good naturally, like say... Anyone at end game it is, but let's just ignore that and focus on something that is also this company's fault.

I think ZOS has to fix this very fast or they're saying that this game is done and we have one or two years max.

Same with me, gridind for gold felt good because of the recompense of getting stuff from the crown store, now what's the point? The majority of my time playing was making gold, what am I supposed to do now? Just hoard a pile of useless fake currency?

Honestly, any outrage over this against ZOS is misplaced. Fraud is not good, and frankly, it is in ZOS' best interest to make sure their game doesn't allow for it.

They should disable the whole crown store and start making some worthwhile rewards for doing things in the game. That'll really stop fraudulent behavior for the foreseeable future :).

It's a terrible idea: the game doesn't have a lot of cool things that can be earned in-game and pushes everything nice-looking to the store and the crown crates, in particular. This could be bypassed via crown gifting, and it was a good system because players who didn't have time to make a lot of gold could trade their crowns for it, and vice-versa, and because there aren't many things that one can buy with gold in the game, it just accumulates and sits there, so being able to trade it for things in the store was a nice option. Regardless of gold trading, having a gifting system was also nice for people wanting to give things to their friends/families, and especially during the New Life time of the year, there was always a traditional gift giving in the community, and much of happened through crown gifting as well. Now the only way to acquire store items with game currency is seals of endeavours, but the endeavours have been nerfed in many ways over time, as documented in other threads (less seals awarded for a given objective, objectives become lengthier, more tedious, more specific, etc.). I'd like to think this was ZOS' last resort and they absolutely needed to close down the gifting system, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but at the same time I hope they resolve this quickly and keep us updated in the meantime. But given how there crate gifting has been shut down for months now, and they were unable to re-instate it, I'm not too hopeful they will quickly reinstate gifting as a whole either, and it might be months before it's back, if at all.

    This is honestly really bad.

Like I clown zos on collecting nothing but Ls of late, but i cant even make fun about this. Even if they deem this is necessary to prevent fraud and eventually one day bring it back, the damage is monumental. The message is bleak.

Do they know how fundamental this is to the game economy? Most people I know play the game with a mind to get gold to buy crown store items. And now they are just gonna play the game less.
    See how that plays out.

I hope this pays off I really do. I sincerely hope the fraud damage outweighs the loss of crown sales and players. This game cannot afford the constant failures inflicted on it.

It's not a gold sink though. Gold sinks remove gold from players. All crown sales do is transfer gold around to other players.

And again, you are arguing in favor of fraud for some convenience in a video game.

It's a gold sink in the sense that many of the highest crown sellers use the gold they get for buying stuff for housing, which is an actual gold sink.

I hope they know that if they permanently end the gold-to-crown trade, they will be kicking a massive chunk of players out of their game. Players who like to farm items and sell them to acquire cosmetics and DLC's from other players, which nowadays is a very large portion of the community.

Watch out ZOS. We love this game. And one of the big selling points for many people was that "you can acquire store content by farming and putting effort in the game, as someone else will have the necessary crowns"

Careful, really. There is a limit to what players can take. And maybe that's the limit of thousands of players.

How is crown store gifting a "gold sink" when it doesn't remove a cent of gold from the economy?

So it was illegal to buy crowns for gold after all?
They have been so unclear about this always speaking in mysterious fraud terms.
No wonder people are confused, they thought it was OK because it has been condoned by some members of ZOS.
So no longer can buy alliance change tokens for gold, etc.

I understand that ZOS wants to “combat fraud” but between crate gifting taking months to fix, the seemingly random decision to block crate gifting on consoles, and now this, it does look incredibly suspicious. PR is already bad, I foresee this being another AWA or U35 level situation. Just because they can, doesn’t mean they should, because realistically they’re not going to get any money if no ones playing their game.
This completely ruined my plan to buy the remaining DLCs I’m missing during the undaunted event. Dungeons are primarily why I play, and now I’m not sure how much longer I can keep playing. I’ll probably just end up skipping the undaunted event entirely, and I was excited for it.

They weren't "unclear", they were very clear: It wasn't illegal. Hell, even Gina herself was on some crown-for-gold guild discord.

They could be turning it into something illegal NOW, and if that happens... vish
