I can see the benefits already!

Toxic Zone Chatter: I am the best!

Honorable Zone Chatter: HAHA shut up! You got wrecked three times in a row by that PvE scrub Player A! And you were the first death in the list on that door bomb that I had to scroll up a few pages to find, so your resists are trash and your health is too low! And what were you doing dying by Arrius Keep when you said you were on the way to help with the scroll on the other side of the map! Liar! Go back to Blackreach! Oh wait, you died 10 times in a row there, too! HAHAHA!

Yes, moving towards naming and shaming will thin out the herd of oversensitive types, for sure. Nothing but the best players for our Cyrodiil!

With this feature we can now Chat-Bomb, Whisper-Bomb and Ingame Mail-Bomb those Tower-Res Player farming jerks, as well as all those gankers from IC/ICS  . They won't be able to stop it with their ignore list when hundreds of players will do this *muahahahaha*:mrgreen::grin: !!!

I wonder if PvP death notifications are to help prevent Cyrodiil boosting. I was at Bleaker's and a pack of Nightblades kept following me, ganking, and teabagging. So I finally gave up and just kept spawning and running out the front door and dying. Probably 1 death every 5 seconds. They must have gotten 30k AP before I was done. Then I was wondering if this is how boosting is done? PvP death notifications would make it obvious.

My impression is that the AP value of killing someone depends on when they died last. If they haven't died in a while you can get a fair bit out of them but, if they've been fighting in a battle for the last 20 minutes and have died over and over you don't get much of anything from killing them.

Hey, thanks for giving people who are already anxious about PvP a brand new reason to avoid it like the plaque.

Honestly this seems like the most likely outcome of this. Putting people that are already tenuous in their PvP interest on blast every time they die will only serve to disincentivize those people even further, leading to an overall lower population.

I think some of you are making a mountain out of a molehill. I don't think this feature will change anything, it's just a bit of a gimmick. People die all the time, no one cares lol.

I hardly ever get any tells, but if you do get a tell it's usually from someone you killed complaining that they were outnumbered or something. I don't think I've ever known someone to send a tell to someone they've killed lol, and if they did it'd probs be a complement that you were tough to kill or something.

ive received a whisper from someone in cyro who i never participated in killing that said nothing except that they reported me for something (they never said what, and since i use killcounter i even checked and they never showed up in my kill feed so i never killed them or even did enough dmg to count as an assist)

im assuming it was probably a friend of someone i killed being salty so i never replied lol

Who asked for this? Whose benefit has this been implemented for?

Maybe it's to 'toughen up' all the PvEers who complain about having to do PvP content for tickets. If they know their name is going to be broadcast to the whole zone every time they die, they'll actually have to learn to get good. ;)

Or make them avoid it completely ...
Of course, that WILL fix the lag as the last remaining 7 players all wander around, alone, in Cyrodiil, avoiding each other.

During peak times especially, how is this notification system not going to just devolve into a literal spam in your zone feed? How will anyone be able to gain any useful information from it?

Proponents seem to believe this is going to be some kind of pseudo leaderboard to show off their skills to the zone. In reality, it's going to be a place for Bombers to show off and everyone else will fade into the endless stream of meaninglessness.

Imagine a list just like this spamming chat every 10 seconds! It doesn't even include regular zone chat with players looking for groups, giving information on keeps UA, and just generally trying to chat. How are you going to be able to discern anything meaningful from this? Crossed swords on the map are already a sufficient level of resolution for this kind of data.

It's got to be a benefit to ZOS somehow, because they certainly haven't told us what they think the benefit to players will be.

Looks like noise pollution to me. Guaranteed to drive new players away. Maybe that's the answer to Cyrodiil performance?

    PvP Death Notifications
We’ve added a new death notification feature to Cyrodiil, Imperial City and Battlegrounds to give more details about combat and deaths.
    • This new chat feature will alert you to who defeated whom, around what area the death occurred, and show alliance ranks of those in the battle.
    • These notifications can be toggled on and off in the Social settings.

Just for those that aren't aware; taking a look at the actual settings in PTS:

    0bjwnmn7rygy.png
What does "nearby" mean? Why isn't this a filter under Chat Tab Options? Who knows.

    t9dh6aa4dtuq.png
@ZOS_GinaBruno, Is this Combat setting going to work with this new "PvP Kill Feed" feature?

Perhaps that wouldn't actually be for the best... the feed would mostly appear like this:

    > Anonymous defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > Anonymous defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > Anonymous defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > Anonymous defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Breahya3 near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > byteNuker defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > Anonymous defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash
    > Anonymous defeated Anonymous near Fort Ash

Then, we would be able to name and shame players MUCH easier... Only the top 0.0001%, bombers, and narcissists, would then enable this new feature.

Except most PvE players, and especially during Mayhem events, won't know how to turn off the "feature" or appear anonymously. Therefore, the feed won't include 95% of PvPers who have the spam turned off, but it will include 95% of PvEers who don't know how to disable it.... and will be far too embarrassed to ask in zone chat if there's a way to turn their broadcast failure spam off.

I don't understand why so many players see death as failure. You can easily respawn and jump back into battle. You will never improve at PvE or PvP without learning mechanics or learning why you died.

If we knew the answer to that, we could explain why so many PvEers hate doing PvP events for tickets. The subject comes up every time, yet no one provides a reasonable answer.

If the interaction were that simple people would probably be more ok with it. Death in this game has multiple ways of being able to feel cheap just by way of lack of balance. Then you factor in player toxic behavior that can come in multiple forms.

You can of course learn to get around a lot of it and accept that wins only come after losses but depending on who you run into the learning experience can vary greatly in level of fun.

Also will depend on things like if you roll solo or group up and what not.

The death experience in this game can emotionally range from meh to honorable like a scene in gladiator to being tripped by a bully on the playground in front of the girl you like while several lesser potential bullies look on.

I don’t really understand the point in this? Why do I need to know who’s dead?

My team/group, I will notice pretty fast, if for whatever reason, no one has said anything, also not really looking at the messages mid fight anyway asides from the quick chats (which is unbelievable that they made it more difficult to get to while replacing it with something you will use once at the start of grouping)

What would be way more relevant and import is damage stats so we can see who is dealing what damage and where.

A quick fix would be an option in social which shows you death recap with a full list of damage from 100% hp down to 0% so you can actually see what’s killing you. Agree the names are unnecessary and also if you were to see an entire breakdown would reveal certain people’s builds.

I don't want this feature in game, the swords on the map is enough. There needs to be some sort of hide function where your name does not appear in the notification to the whole server.

Are you saying that people don't want their PvP inadequacies put on blast to the whole server, complete with a link to their name where they can receive unwanted hate whispers.... from everybody? Just wait until the next PvP event where PvEers will not only dread getting repeatedly killed over and over again, but they can be mortified by seeing the whole embarrassing spectacle of their PvEness broadcast to everybody in the zone!!

I think this is a horrible idea. This is going to lead to some even more toxic behavior. I can see it now:

    Whisper
Player A: Hahaha, THAT person killed you?!?!
    Or
Player: Wow, way to get us all bombed idiot, get more health or get out of Cyrodiil.

And even more whispers we all know will happen that I can’t repeat on the forums.

Plus, we can shut this off right? So chat is not just filled with death notifications? Imagine all the notifications popping up when a ballgroup farms at a keep. LoL, pass.

They're acting like it's a wanted feature of some sort. I'm curious to know how they arrived at that conclusion, and if there's some backend benefit that we aren't aware of.
