Yep, distinctly remember this in Darkness Falls.

Yea, I used to whisper victims from my realm:
    "Numbers please?"
so I could go hunt the killer(s).

Seems this will have "near" locations so that will require people stepping up their game.

    SiegeMemesFTW has killed NoobTryingToPickUpVolendrungD

As long as we have the option to hide the spam if it gets too obnoxious.

Well at least we'll know who the scrub with low HP and no resists was that was the fuse for the bomb that killed everybody on the flag, because they'll be the first death in the list. Then we can know who to berate, refuse to add to group, and avoid like the plague.

Imagine the chat spam when 20 people get blown up. And to think that ZOS actually nerfed a glyph 'for performance reasons' because it had to check one single players' list of enemy types, and yet here were are sending entire pages of chat box blocking text to every single player in the zone in 1 millisecond!

On the plus side: we'll be able to monitor chat and data log who has been getting the biggest string of kills, and we can hunt and target those players for the j00cy AP and tel var prizes. I'm sure somebody will write an addon that logs kill streaks and estimates the AP and TV values of players by name. That part will be fun.

Another reason not to mess with the death recap notification system. What's broken about the current system that needs fixed again?

    No one wants this.

People that do want this, get an add-on that allows this, thus tacitly opting in to it.

This will wreak havoc on console.

The latest patch (yesterday) at least fixes the issue where you see your own self-inflicted death in the chat:
Fixed an issue that caused some technically self-inflicted kills to appear in the PvP Death Notifications, such as death by Slaughterfish. Also, please just avoid Slaughterfish in general.
But I haven't seen any comment on the other concerns from ZOS on this. I'd appreciate some commentary.

Exactly. Why? The death recap system is not broken or in need of changes. Please don't touch it. ZOS is amassing a pretty poor track record of bugs popping up when they mess with the code, so please just don't mess with the death recap notification code.

Maybe it's to 'toughen up' all the PvEers who complain about having to do PvP content for tickets. If they know their name is going to be broadcast to the whole zone every time they die, they'll actually have to learn to get good. ;)

probably this, but also the crossed sword icons can feel so delayed (or they last too long after a fight ends) that many times they are misleading, even a keep being flagged your generally already way too late to get to the fight unless its a very long drawn out fight or a troll siege

But really, who would choose to try to scan a small chat box with a constantly rolling wall of kill texts to get clues about who is dying where, when you can simply look at your map and see icons of varying size? I use Kill Counter and the first thing I do on any new character is turn off flag flip chat notifications. That alone is so annoying to spam my little chat box and block out actual zone chat information, I can't imagine what every single death notification will look like.

And I haven't heard anyone talking about the 'claim a keep and your guild gets guard death notifications' thing they implemented earlier. Does anybody actually find that useful? Why are we being subjected to these unwanted QOL nerfs? It would be nice if ZOS had stated their reasoning for spending time on these systems. But of course, silence.

Yeah really. Like, of all the things big and small that people ask for why is *this* what we get? I would so much rather have doors that actually work properly so that when I use one my character doesn't somehow translate that "use door" input as "turn around, walk back outside, look for the biggest pile of deadly AoEs, jump straight into them, and disable all healing skills on my bar".

Actually the opposite will happen, atleast with me. As a PvE'er if I get killed a few(5+) times in a row I will now start reporting that player. Like skara's example text, if a player gets killed by the same player that often in a row(4+), it is harassment and not PvP in my opinion.

Maybe those gankers will finally start leaving PvE players alone... which is my guess for why they are implementing this.

This will make it harder to troll keeps and add a ton of spam messaging to the chat window.

This seems like another "upgrade" that is actually a downgrade. Not to mention using more server resources to make it happen which will likely result in more lag and other issues.

im not sure if its really using much more resources, stuff like kill counter addon already report stuff like flags being flipped (reported to the client by zos and this addon displays it), and a kill feed (only kills you participated in, but the information is already there, even down if you got the killing blow and with what skill you used)

i do agree though that it might clog up the chat, but it would be interesting to see, if its a user selectable chat channel, i might actually for the first time in 9 years make a 2nd chat tab to handle these notifications because it would be easier to tell where the fights occurred or who was fighting

I just don't see the point of a text based notification system in zone chat. I think the current crossed swords on the map is enough. If anything, a death marker system that allies can SEE in the game, or an accompanying mini-map would be WAY more useful.
    3iiyq9yq05c5.png

Instead, I think a system notification that provides a map pin would be, at least, more useful. Random notifications in chat are fairly ambiguous and disconnected for players from action. I'd rather see skull markers on the map that show deaths and then fade away after 10 seconds.
    j7ru4fvesk4p.png
    snymt5qk248z.png

Alternatively, I'd just like to see the crossed sword map markers updated to mouse over and show information about the fight.

I see a lot of people here who apparently haven't played a game besides eso or single player rpgs. Kill feeds are as old as multiplayer gaming itself. if you are concerned about being harrassed by people make use of the ignore feature. Don't forget to clean it out every once in a while though. I assure you unless you deserve it you wont make 100 enemies that regularly harass you.

Yeah I have been PvPing in ESO for over 6 years and I don't think at any point I had more than 5 to 10 people on my ignore list, most of those because I reported them for something.

You must not play much PvP, or you're the ones getting blocked. There are toxic players that PM hate regularly; especially when they are on the winning side. Iv reported more players then I can count that PM me "get rekt newb", or "go back to pve where you belong" after killing me with their 20 friends in a ball group. There are addons that auto send mail after they kill people. You report and ignore and others just move in and replace them.

In Dark Age of Camelot they had this feature and it was interesting to see who killed who. Ever since I played ESO I always wanted to have this feature added to the game. It gives you a sense of who is powerful in PvP and if there is a big zerg headed your way. It gives you awareness of when someone in your faction dies so you can go to their location and help fight. It also feels good when you get lots of kills and people become familiar with your name. You become a recognized PvPer.

This is literally going to make PvP so much more toxic for NO reason. NO ONE in the PvP community wanted this. @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin do you understand that implementing this means that people can be more easily harassed? Why would we need the resources that we barely have to support this zone be dedicated to a toxic announcement of when someone dies. No one needs this.

Yeah I do whisper and tbag people occasionally l, but basically only if they behaved the same way towards me before or if their playstyle is absolutely disgusting to me.

Also you were the one who first said that I either didn't play a lot of PvP or was the one getting blocked lol.
So don't act like the victim now just because you can't take a little whisper or teabagging, it happens to everyone in PvP, that's just how it is.

If you ignore everyone who teabags or whispers you once then the problem is that you are apparently not capable of being in an environment like PvP that can get pretty competitive, since those are always going to have some form of taunting, whether it's tbags, gloating whispers or something else.
