Are ESO's new chapters worth its cost?

    Nope.

Last Chapter for me, honestly. Compared to other MMOs the ESO expansion equivalent is lackluster, provides barely the same amount of content time wise as one base game zone, and is conveniently masked as a "Chapter" so it isn't marketed as an expansion. Because it does not even have one third of the content to be called as such.

Necrom tried to incentivize players by introducing rewards such as mounts locked behind overland achievements. One mount, just one mount. One FFXIV, WoW or Guild Wars 2 expansion gives you mounts, cosmetics, pets, etc from actually playing the content you paid for, not just one pittance reward. If you want anything aesthetically substantial in ESO, you have to pay the Chapter and then fork over even more money for loot crates.

I voted yes a month ago when I was still in the middle of questing but now in retrospect I wish I could change my vote to "No".

I bought the base game for $20 and enjoyed a week or so worth of content. I bought Necrom for $60 and got about 7 hours worth of quests and related content. I suppose I could spend more time collecting stuff but it feels like the only things that seem worth collecting are in the crown store and I'm not paying any more for stuff that I can earn just by playing the content in other games. I loved the artwork and the story of Necrom, what little there was.

Going back to my routine in ESO, after completing Necrom's core content, leaves me feeling disappointed with how little Necrom did to change/augment such. This leaves me with the question: Why did I buy this? And: Why should I buy another chapter knowing the core gameplay cycle will remain virtually unchanged?

As long as they keep the quality high I still feel new expansions are definitely worth the costs.

I still play Diablo 4 but logs into ESO once in awhile to do some eso stuff to farm mats, gear, dungeons etc and my guild. but as much as i like to log in and do that I dont think their chapters are worth it.

In my opinion there is no new content, its a zone with wb, delves, dailys all over again.

that's not an opinion that's just dismissing the truth as there is new content.

like a new class, new zone, new furnishings, new houses, new sets, new quests, new tales of tribute deck, new creature(like the tomeshells and hushed), and new companions

No, the fact you could save up to 35% on the latest one that was just released less than two months ago shows they are overpriced. TBH i feel they take advantage of the their loyal customer base with their pricing system.

You call it "taking advantage of", while I call it "paying more for earlier access". Everyone has to decide if they want to pay more to get the new chapter on day 1 or wait til it goes on sale. $50 doesn't have the same meaning to everyone and there's nothing wrong with a for-profit company pricing something higher to target those with more means that want it now.

I'd say Necrom is still certainly worth the cost for the class alone - however, any other expansion dating back to Elsweyr is pretty low in value.

I really wish I'd not purchased Necrom. Arcanist isn't better than the older classes in any category as so many thought it would be, as was the case for the introduction of new classes in the past.

Although Necrom is an improvement over other recent chapters... still not worth it imo.

I just paid only $10 more for a certain entire actual new game that will likely entertain me for hundreds if not thousands of hours. I think I was done with most of Necrom in like ~two weeks. There's no reason to go back, no replayability. The things that will take longer... like rare furnishing plans and public dungeon fragments aren't really content, they're just grindy. The arcanist adds value that was missing from High Isle and Blackwood yes, but ultimately... doing the same old content AGAIN with a new class is still not worth the cost.

(Side note: thanks to AwA, there's really nothing for me to achieve with the new class either. Very little motivation to do much with it. I am not a pvp'er and I can absolutely see how it would be a more interesting addition from a pvp standpoint, however.).

When it comes down to it, there's just not a lot in these chapters when they're almost the price of a new game. I think this was the last one for me and I'll be getting them on sale in the future. Just my opinion of course, I am glad to see some are enjoying Necrom more than I am.

Unless I'm mistaken, sale price of the Necrom Collection, which includes base game and all chapters is less than Necrom update out of sale. Anyway, I finally got the update from sale and have plenty to do before even diving deep into the chapter (This far unlocking things for Arcanist char and gearing and leveling one of the new companions has taken most of my time.)

Too many things I really looked forward to, too many disappointments. I'll still buy the chapters for the new zones and deal with whatever disappointments, but only on sale. No more pre-purchase, from someone who pre-purchased without even thinking about it before.

I enjoyed Necrom. I thought the story was the best one since Elsweyr (or maybe Markarth if I count Q4 expansions), I liked the vibe of Apocrypha and I made a TON of gold selling new furnishing plans. I unlocked the mount and then… I realized I started using the past tense for Necrom. Was very excited to level up a new class but once I hit CP level I kind of mothballed that character. Haven’t been back to either of the new zones since I completed the story and got the mount.

So was it worth the money? No. Not if I compare it to the amount of playtime I could have gotten from other games for the same price or less.

They should give plus members a discount on the chapter, based on how many months they were subbed during last year before release.

    e.

It's demoralising for everyone else when ESO+ subscribers get extra benefits.

I'm not sure why xbox and playstation players can't get reductions on the ordinary upgrade in the Quake sale. The reduction in the deluxe upgrade just makes it £1 cheaper than the ordinary upgrade through gamepass.

The Necrom DLC is worth the reduced price for the ordinary upgrade for PC players in the sale.

Nope...not even close. They'll get $10 from me next year...that's all I'm paying them. ZOS doesn't deserve my $$$ with the predatory sales tactics, FOMO, constant maintenance/downtime, p2w, and gated mechs (leads with double rng, or even this latest scribing).

That said, I still put time in each day to play...and honestly, I've barely looked at Necrom since I got it...I got lot's of time to wait for a sale :)

Ask me again when I've played it. I don't judge things based on a trailer and a couple of broadcasts. However, I do judge all new content on the basis that playing on 2 servers with multiple characters I'll be playing through it fully a number of times over a long period of time, rather than using addons to guide me through a few bits of it as quickly as possible just the once and then complaining that there wasn't much to it  ! I haven't been disappointed with the previous chapters or non-dungeon DLCs (the dungeon ones don't appeal to me), while the more impactful changes always come with the base game updates and that's where I'll be concerned this time around after last year's AwA mess.

Never fails to insert displeasure with account wide achievements!! LOL. One of my favorite all time updates to the game, which drove me to play on more alts more often ;)

Yea the chapters are great! Lots of new content, great base game updates, cool new systems and new places and people to experience! Love it :)

Definitely not. 40 to 50 is close to a whole new game. These zones are getting smaller and will only get smaller as the map fills out. 20 to 25 bucks is better for the chapters. Other MMOs chapters put ESO to shame in my opinion

For me, as of now, no.

After seeing the feedback here and Reddit, I cancelled my console preorder. I'll wait for a sale before I get Gold Road. The last few years, the expansion goes on sale just a few months after, so I expect that. I don't see myself treating this game as a full-price purchase again.

There's just too many issues for me to feel good about giving them full price. The stories are simply not compelling enough for me. What little excitement I had for scribing evaporated once I heard what it was actually like. There's also too many timed rewards/deals. And the things I would grind for - like the motifs - are typically staggered releases over the year.

No Gold road very disappointing. The only good thing to emerge after bulldozing my way thru the entire scribing adventure was the horse.

I actually like scribing except for the lack of ink drops I've been getting. So far I've enjoyed the quests too, but I've only done the scribing quest line and some other side quests (saving the main story quests for a bit later).

I've never thought ESO chapters were worth their price though. They are miniscule compared to expansion updates that other MMOs get. Then the performance issues just this year make ESO even less worthy of it's price tag and the title "triple A game".

The murdering of the year long story, and the noticeable reduction of both quality and content makes it a big no for me.

The Gold Road should have been a DLC, while it's very pretty it has no soul...

I still buy them as I want to be able continue the story and experience the world but chapters in Australian dollars are over $60 for the cheapest option (being the upgrade) and still don't have even remotely close to the same amount of content that a brand new game costing $60+ dollars has.

From a content to cost ratio they really shouldn't be THAT expensive.

No. Gold Road base upgrade should have cost $15 for the little and repetitive content it gives. Guess I will try to play the next chapter on the PTS first before buying. Hopefully, I don't get involved into something like what happened during the Anniversary event.
