Are ESO's new chapters worth its cost?

All the chapters have been worth the price and i participate in all new content/mechanics. I still haven’t gotten druid king deck in ToT but that’s because I’ve been clearing content all over the world on many characters… i still have the 4 other additional decks and love the card game, scrying, companions and all the zone stories and lore.

I too think all the chapters are worth the price and then some... I get hours of enjoyment from playing ESO almost every day and have for years, some chapters are good, some less so, but I still spend the time.

I could spend that money on other things, like a movie (9 per year for my wife and me, 3 per account) and have 18-20 hours (except the latest movies kind of suck) for the same price... if we go out to dinner as well, it will cost me far more (1 dinner per account) for perhaps an hour of enjoyment (less if we have to wait on a table)

If the price of the chapters keeps more chapters coming, then the price will always be worth it until inflation makes the price so high I can't afford the cost any more (and I fear this is getting close to true)
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

but only if it is heavily discounted as compensation for the heavily overpriced High Isle.

They have become smaller in scope every year. First one had a new class major new system battlegrounds and huge detailed zone among other things.

If it wasn't for the new class i would probably skip this one. At nearly $60 CDN (for the standard upgrade) it is definitely a luxury item at this point. I will try the new class on the PTS when it comes out and decide then.

Then it should have been titled "Are new chapters worth their cost?".

Sorry for sounding critical, and I appreciate that the forum is sometimes awkward to get posts right due to second languages etc, although I don't know if that is the case here, but when a thread is titled as this one is just after the announcement of a new chapter then it's reasonable to assume that it is meant to be taken as "Is ESO's new chapter worth its cost?".

While I enjoy new features, the main draw for me with new chapters or DLC is new story, quests, and lore. I've been an Elder Scrolls fan since Arena, and Nirn is a familiar place that I enjoy making new discoveries in. If the story and writing is good, then yes, I think new chapters are worth the price. My most favorites are Markarth, Morrowind, Murkmire, and Clockwork City. Sometimes great characters can carry a weaker story such as Fennorian in Greymoor, and I honestly enjoyed Blackwood even with its problems. All of them have added depth to this world I love, except High Isle. I lost any immersion with High Isle and haven't played Galen. I hope the writing and quests go back to being great again.

I think that would depend on what metric you choose to value content on.

The recent chapters have given players stuff to grind, new environments to explore, new story content, and new potential builds.

The recent chapters grinds have been a bit painful at times.

The new environments have been pretty but, they've seemed a bit on the hollow side at times.

Personally, I've found the stories of late to be a bit weak.

The recent chapters have definitely opened up a fair number of new builds with their additions but, in some ways they also highlight things some might argue are flaws.

The price of the content absolutely plummets after release. Within four months after release it was already half off the initial price and in under a year it was 75% off the initial price.

As the releases are frequently a bit buggy it can feel like a bad deal at times when you are basically playing a premium for earlier access to content that isn't fully functional.

You also hit the issue that the price for the Collection also makes the Chapter purchase price look worse because it is only $20 more and it gives you an absolutely massive amount of content.

As noted previously it is a personal choice. One that is irrelevant to the poll results. Even then, it does not matter if some or even a majority of players do not feel it is worth the cost as long as enough buy it to meet Zenimax's expectations. That includes those who will buy it at a discounted price which will be offered before the end of the year.

Of course, there are serious hardcore players who will defiantly buy it as any serious raider will be doing the new raid once it hits. Even a lot of less serious raiders will likely be farming the new trial gear if it is any good, which tends to be likely. This is pretty much a given.

For many, they can easily wait until the chapter goes on sale or becomes a normal DLC part of ESO+/purchase the DLC and class via crowns.

My local currency conversion rate to USD via AUD is too much in my opinion. I will wait until it is cheaper.

Why can't I buy in US Dollars?

I mean I get why I can't use New Zealand dollars to to economic reasons, but why do I have to buy in Aussie dollars and not directly in USD?

Well, because your government knows where you live, and therefore you aren't allowed to buy anything in some other country's currency?

I tend to buy everything I can and throw money at in the game. But Blackwood and High Isle may have finally cured me a little. I mostly just solo. That makes the story and overland more important for me than maybe for others. The stories did not grab me. The quests are getting super, super repetitive, and overland is so dumbed down now it is basically a speedbump. I do solo quite a lot of dungons even on vet but most later DLC dungeons and all trials are obviously just not possible (even though I keep buying them ha ha -- see above). Oakensoul and companions have not really expanded accessible content for me, just made content I could already do easier (at least that has been my experience). Bottom line, there just hasn't been much in the expansions for me recently.

Still love the game, and it has been fantastic value for money. Very grateful to the devs for their beautiful product. Would just appreciate them throwing solo players a bone sometime...like maybe give me a box to shove over the stupid pressure plate in Direfrost Keep...that sort of thing!

If the writing is lot better than in the last chapter (High Isle), I'll consider it. But apart from exploration and meeting Naryu again it offers very little for me.

I'm not interested in the new class at all, of the two new companions I'm only interested in one and that one will probably not get use his class skills.
In any case I'll most likely wait for it to be discounted though.

I'm not really interested in the new class, and was not interested in the card game, so my thinking is that the cost of High Isle and Necrom are not aligned with the value provided. The cost of Blackwood exceeded my perceived value, and the "world event" is one of the worst ones they have ever done. The concept is nice, but execution was lacking. Things have been slipping downhill for a couple years, now.

The writing in High Isle was... predictable. I am still waiting to find out what the "Legacy of the Bretons" really means. Yes, they use the term in dialog in a quest, but the reference felt like they were looking for a place to slip it in. It did not feel like something that actually answered any questions. It feels like the in-game story and "Legacy of the Bretons" were two different things that they tried to tie together at the end.

Fortunately, if one thinks the early adopter price is too high, they can wait for the fall sales or until the zone is in the Crown Store/ESO Plus lineup. Sadly, as more people do this, there is a risk that they will interpret the lack of sales as flagging interest rather than flagging content and quality.

High Isle was the first chapter I didn’t buy. It didn’t seem worth it at all, not interested in card games and companions are meh.

This year I am on the fence but right now it doesn’t seem worth it even though I would also get High Isle too. The new class doesn’t sound appealing enough yet, maybe when more information is released but honestly I don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to grinding in this game anymore so I will probably just stick to just doing writs and logging off to play something else.
