Are ESO's new chapters worth its cost?

Chapters are not worth the money, especially if you already sub. I can't really think of one where the story has been better than the follow-up story, can't comment on High Isle as I didn't get it.

Chapters are just an excuse for ZoS to charge a yearly fee for what should be included in the sub.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

Considering this year there will be no follow-up story in Q4, this will get interesting ;)

It's worth it me and a poll isn't going to convince me otherwise.

True as I noted earlier that each person makes up their own mind.

However, what is interesting about the poll is that (at the time of this post) 33% are saying they think the chapter is worth it with the information we have now. The rest of the respondents include people who will hold off until this hits the PTS and players who will purchase the expansion just before it releases or at release.

Zenimax would likely consider that a great start since we already know that a large portion of the player base does not buy the expansion until after it goes on sale.

honestly I'm a bit iffy on Necrom. Dunmer stuff has never been my cup of tea but i do love this game so i'd probably get it eventually but ZOS definitely has to up the ante with these chapters so I'm looking forward to the big Q3/Q4 reveal, so I'm hoping its more substantial than endless dungeons.

I suppose the housing furniture and motifs will be a big breaking point. Lackluster as some chapters can be people will go gaga over certain pieces if it fits their style.

Can't tell because it's not here yet.

But the last chapter I thought was worth its price was Elsweyr. All the ones after has not and the writing, quest design, and implementation of lore has dropped severely in quality. Sometimes it's straight out terrible. Not to mention how the glowy, weird flashiness is getting worse with cosmetics and such, making the setting design not consistent and looks strange in Elder Scrolls.

So I'm very sceptical that it will be worth it and I'm worried this chapter will be another disappointment.

I would not recommend taking any action until after it hits PTS and they reveal all of the rest of what is in the Chapter. I got bit bad last year. Learn from my failings.

I highly agree with doing the PTS first and actually finding out what the chapter has. I was so disappointed with Blackwood I did the High Isle PTS. I did it on a new char because my main was prevented from doing the beginning quest because of a bug. I did the entire thing on a new char in 8 hrs.

It was generic and boring and doing it on the PTS showed me I didn't want to waste my money. I will do the same this year but I already know I won't buy it because there is nothing in it that would compliment my Templar.

I saw in a trailer the char casting and tentacles came out. It was repulsive.

I had already pre-ordered HIgh Isle for my main account on PC and XBox before it hit PTS. Habit. Never again. No, no, no, no. Epic bad idea. I might pre-order it after it hits PTS, but if I do, I will likely not do both PC and XBox. Desperation sales near the end of the year are nice. Half price is better.

I didn't think High Isle was worth the price. With Necrom, I'll reserve judgement until I've played it.

(As I did with High Isle, I pre-ordered Necrom at Green Man Gaming at a discount, which did bring down the cost a bit.)

If the story is an improvement over last year's, maybe with some choices and reactivity for a change. If it's just another episode of Vestige being a dummy then probably not. The setting seems intriguing, so I'm hopeful, though the way they spoke about the villain seemed more like an afterthought, like 'and by the way the bad guy is this Telvanni lady with an army of Grey Host knockoffs'.

Ultimately we will have to see when it releases, but I am expecting *both* zones to be fair in size or at least compact and the story to be good as well, since we are missing a Story DLC this year. I've since cancelled my ESO sub, and this year will be the last chance if they want to get me back on the subbing, though I am hardly convinced by the pre-order bonuses, I am going to wait to buy it on release, if not a few days after.
They are bringing an Argonian Companion though, and I am very much for that!

Last time I really wanted to give my money to zos was at Summerset. Elsweyr wasn't my cup of tea I thought plus necromancer seemed way off elder scrolls and more like diablo 3 + spoopy graveyard, but looking at it now it would be the one I'd still buy easily compared to anything we saw after.

....if we're back to Summerset quality, then absolutely.

I was really unimpressed with Blackwood and it remains my least favourite Chapter by far. I have yet to play High Isle all the way through but there are some good bits on the periphery of that Chapter - although I still can't understand why ZoS decided to launch a card game as the key feature.

At face value it looks as though we'll see a a new and interesting story, an expansion of familiar territory, a new class, and some good QoL benefits. If they get that right, it's worth every penny.

40-50$ for a burger with fries? That burger better be good!

I get a good burger not mc for about 12$ and 1-2$ extra for home delivery.

In my opinion, they should charge less. I'll still buy it eventually, but still.

If they were worth what they're charging right now, then how come older chapters can literally be bought by a fake and worthless currency through in-game trade. Chapters are virtual, it's not like they get degraded overtime like a piece of cloth or a bicycle would be. Summerset is still Summerset. Why did some people spend 50 bucks while others spent a few million gold years later for the same content. Gold isn't even hard to get.

Also, the main thing seems to be the Arcanist which is a new class and not a new skill line, in a game where you're told you choose the way you play and class tokens are not and probably will never be a thing because of code. I don't think "play the way you want" is respected much when adding classes, rather than more skill lines everyone can use. There's people stuck as a Templar or whatever after X years of playing, and their whole character's theme is literally an Arcanist or a Necromancer or who knows what. Also call me crazy, but who even asked for a new class, all I saw was spell crafting, did I miss the neighbour reunion? :D

For me, they might as well just charge €5 for a quest line and a new dungeon. That's about all the chapter really is or is shown to be at the moment if you think about it.

A map in an already existing province, a quest line that will take a couple of hours to finish, a new class you can't play unless you pay and make a new character, and an endless dungeon that won't even be released at launch if I'm not mistaken (and when it does the chapter might already be at a discount or something). I am obviously not saying the chapter didn't take time and effort to make, but the end product is what it is.

Most of the stuff I find cool is free, like the combat changes, which are rather nice!

If I'm going to be fair, I have to say yes.

Going on a day trip, or even to the movies a couple times approaches the cost, and I get far more out of ESO than those.

There are things I really wanted this year that I wont get, and a class I'm not particularly interested in myself, but that's how the cookie crumbles. Maybe next year?

In the meantime, I'm getting what looks like a gorgeous new world to explore with fantastic visuals and servers to maintain my exploration, and I plan to be doing a LOT of that.

The up front cash cost during the first year includes an early adopters fee. The real price is closer to what they charge when it is on sale.

I generally value my gaming time at $1/1hr played, so for instance, I wouldn't buy a new AAA title priced at $60 unless I thought I was going to get 60 hrs of play time out of it.

I've definitely spent at least 50 hours doing High Isle related thing (running DSR, grinding antiquities, collecting furnishing plans and motifs, doing quests, making builds with the new item sets, etc.). By that metric, I don't feel like I purchased something that ended up being not worthwhile in terms of the hours of fun I got out of it.

That being said, I do feel like I got less out of it compared to previous chapters - mainly due to the (IMO) disappointing main quest line, lack of a house purchasable with gold, and very lackluster feature (I played the ToT tutorial and then gave up on it as it seemed both convoluted and boring lol).
