Wanted something different for the upcoming Necrom Chapter
I’ve shared my thoughts elsewhere but since this is the official feedback thread… This year seems to miss the mark in more ways than one.
    • Telvanni “Peninsula” and Apocrypha: I find these locations appealing but…The area surrounding Necrom heavily reuses assets, not only are you producing less content this year but it’s recycled assets from the oldest chapter. My main concern isn’t actually reusing assets but having the zones look so similar. If the zone had forests that were dense and distinguished itself from Vvardenfell it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it looks exactly like Vvardenfell from what I’ve seen. Apocrypha has some new stuff obviously so my impressions on the zones will be heavily dependent on how big Apocrypha is.
    • New class: The spell plus tome animations look nice but this class is oddly specific in its theme tying to apocrypha. I’d prefer more traditional TES classes that are not tied to a particular theme or location. Warden also has this problem with its summons being Morrowind focused. Necromancer is more general and rooted in mainline games, that’s more of what I’d like to see in the future.
    • No new weapons: Classes are ok but I’d prefer new weapons with their own skill lines anyone could use. Specifically, spears, 1H+ spells amd crossbows.
    • This batch of companions does not appeal to me, which is OK but we still seemingly don’t have a romance system with companions. Ideally this would be added to all companions with new quests, gifts for the disposition system, dialogue that affects disposition, etc. Also I'd much rather have established characters as companions (like Naryu) instead of these random characters.
    • Endless dungeon was not a system I was interested in. If you were to ask me to make a bingo card of popular systems people would like, endless dungeons would have never crossed my mind. They are often repetitive prefabs that are procedurally stitched together. No thank you.
    • Still no Veteran overland. I feel like I’m begging at this point for a more engaging overland. I cannot be excited for going through old or new overland quests when it’s so mind numbingly easy. This is what the Q4 system should have been.
    • Base game updates are lacking. An AIO attunement station? Saves time but does not change my overall impression of the game. Would love to see vanilla zones remade (especially ones from mainline games that are visually inconsistent) far distance shadows, denser forests instead of a field of a few trees, less texture pop in (I’m looking at you Daggerfall stairs, water mill and Elsweyr inn bridge)
    • Combat improvements. The game initially got updates but you stopped at palatable instead of good. Melee still lacks impact, animations like the bow look very weak and sound design is lacking oomph when every sound is just a variation of a woosh sound. Making light and heavy attacks convey more impact. Make shooting bows actually feel good and have arrows that impact the environment. Overhaul the sound with metal on metal, thwacks from arrows, reverberating explosion from fire magic, crackling from electricity, death rattles from necromancy, etc.

I agree. At least they should make different themes we can choose from.

I have to admit I thought that they would have some sort of cataclysm that would make most of the old chapters and DLCs free like Vvardenfel. Maybe that will be in a few years time.

Well, looking on the bright side...at least it isn't another card game...

The new class looks interesting, going to Hermie's land looks interesting, but I am not interested in saving the world again. THAT is such a boring redundant story! Also not interested in coy presentations that grand-stand and hardly tell anything, while letting peoples' imaginations build up futile dreams. Endless Dungeon? I doubt that will agree with my Fibromyalgia.

Mostly, I am very concerned about the lessening of content and keeping it at the same price. Only half the content and the usual price sticker? Not interested, and this will be the first year that I will not pre-purchase. Instead, I'll wait until the end of the year discounts and in the mean time, will invest my money & time elsewhere.

And about to be able to play the game we bought? You know... That epic big ciro battles... Nothing, like always...

Sorry, I cant understand... You do all this to make PvP players more and more angry? "Hey, look where our developers are working!" "dont you like the card game?", " dont you like new class?"

Yes, sure we would like, but we cant play because the game is absolutely unplayable since years

new class looks like a lot of fun, and my kind of theme

new companions also seem kind of neat too, but please do not make us run those dumb quests on every character to be able to use them

the quests are interesting the first time you run them, but when you have to run them on 10+ characters to be able to use them, the quest starts to get incredibly tedious, especially for longer ones such as isobels unlock quest

    4. Pay attention to this thread and your long playing fan base, we don't like to restart over and over so stop doing that and just evolve the game by adding new skill lines and counters to what ever seems over powered, no more nerfs. We want to achive CHIM.

I like new classes and creating new alts, and leveling them. I'm here nearly 6 years now - I'd say I'm a long playing fan myself. Each to her own of course.

Im here nearly 9 years and you couldn't pay me to do another mind numbing grind to 50.Its not so much the char level as the training and skyshards,

Just can't do it again. So a new class is meaningless. New skill lines would have been good, lines that could be used by any char.

I don't like paying for the main feature of a new chapter that I will never use. Im am already paying for a lot of stuff I don't like.

I think this new zone, new overland content, is absolutely boring. New dungeons. Same stuff over and over again. It's why people are absolutely crying for PvP content it's always something new in PvP it's highly competitive. Overland is straight-up regurgitation, and so are dungeons. It's all been done before Zenimax. Come on. For nearly a decade it's just the same thing over and over and over again. A new class ? There's base game classes like mag sorc that are utter trash right now. Instead of trying to awe the audience with a new class fix the ones u got. Won't be playing the new class look so boring. The classes we got now are more than fun enough. We just need new non regurgitated content to play them with. Cough cough PvP content and start to encourage players to go into PvP. This game will die if you continue down this path of reskins and regurgitation

    1) The Necrom chapters feels fun. What the presentation has completely failed to make a point of is, whether it will be sized like the previous "chapter AND subsequent DLC" in terms of content, and the impression is, "nope".

So far it were 50 hours of content for Q2 an 30 hours for Q4. Now we get 30 hours for Q2 and some system in Q4.

I love the Apocrypha story - thought it was really slick.
    Anything Daedra is awesome.

But hoping for some different game play. NPC opponents are smarter, tougher (hp and mechanics)

    More existing character line development.

    And yeah, PvP love.

    So still hopeful!

Okay, let's see if I can keep this short and on the point... Will prolly fail though.

    Let's start with the positives:

The idea of visiting Necrom did spark my interest, in that it wont just be copy/pasta and nostalgia bait from earlier TES games. While you could visit it in Arena, the tech difference involved makes that a bit of a moot point. Seeing a more modern take on the city definitely sounds interesting. At the same time though, I do not trust ZOS writing enough to not muck up the place as far as lore goes.

And that's where the positives end.

And topping the list of negatives, is the new class...

Like why? I know there are always some people who want more classes, but is it really a top request? Is it what the game needs at this point? Balancing and making sure the existing classes work is trouble enough as it seems, so why add another one?

If you added class change system along with it, then maybe, but I have zero interest in setting up another character and doing the grind to get it up to specs. No way I am going to commit to that nonsense.

And no, not gonna buy the skill lines and skyshards and what not from the store either. Not when I can us the sortta money needed for that to just buy a new game. A complete game with all new content instead of just making a new character in an old game viable.

And why on earth did you think that it was good idea to base the new class on such an incredible tight and narrow theme? A class dedicated to following Hermaeus Mora? What? Is the 2024 chapter gonna give us a class dedicated towards being an acolyte of Peryite, with wondrous vomit attacks and pustulent pores and all? Why is being a nutter delving in to the secrets of Apocrypha a class, while being a Psijic is just a skill line? A Hermie based skill line would have been in line with previous content. Making a whole class based on tentacles and eldritch horrors feels rather odd design choice.

Except I know why. Apocrypha. So there it, the nostalgia bait for this chapter. Look, it was a cool and all place to visit in Dragonborn, but basing something as important as a new core class on it feels like stretch. But whatever, I guess tentacles are cool and stuff. At leat to some folk. Can't wait to see the flood of tentacle p-memes.

Personally, I'm not sold on the concept for the chapter. I guess I'd have been okay with a story line centred around old Hermie, but... Come on, not another world ending calamity of stupendous proportion that all the previous ones will pale in comparisons. Treachery and Doom indeed, all of existence is in peril!

Well, existence will just have to sort that mess out on its own. I got better things to do.

And that really is the rub. The idea of going to Necrom and exploring Telvanni lands did catch my interest. But as soon as I took a looksie at the release notes and trailers and announcements, I was reminded why I don't really play the game any more.

The new zone sounds as formulaic as ever. Oh gosh, yet another re-skinned dark anchor you say? What wonder indeed. Two more companions I don't care about, and yet another grind to do. Collectibles I will never use, and titles and achievements I don't care about.

The promise of new antiquities did sound interesting, until I realise there is no space in any of my homes. Why bother with looking for new furnishings when I can't use any of them.

And as for the new deck for the card game, well you can shove that up where... Well, let's just say that I am not interested in that.

So yeah, over all, kinda disappointing. No words on anything PVP related. No word on housing related things. Just more of the same old same old busy body work and grind. So no, I am no impressed at all.

See, the thing is, I haven logged into the game in bit over two months now. I did consider it during the winter event, but then realised that there was no reason to do so. It was just the same old same old. The same checklist scrambling quest grind as it has always been. All for boxes containing crap I have no use for. So I didn't. I played other games that actually value and reward my time spent with them.

And that is the crux here. ESO is still an okayish game. It has its warts, sure, but also some neat bits too. It is heavily over monetized, incredibly tedious to play, and doesn't really offer anything fundamentally new. And everything that is of any interest - like housing - is buried under rage inducing grind. Or you have to pay through your nose for them. It just isn't worth it, when you sit and think about it. And there are better options out there. Which do not aggravate you nearly as much.

I used to defend ESO on the grounds that at least the writing was decentish enough to warrant romping through the quests once, but even that doesn't work for me any more.

So I guess I'll adopt a wait and see stance. Maybe, once we get the first PTS patch notes for it, I'll see something that will change my mind. But for now, I have no real intention of playing through this thing. There are far better options on the horizon vying for my gaming time as is. So far Necrom has not impressed enough to really even be in the fight.

I'm pretty excited myself. Telvanni Peninsula hasn't fully been seen since Arena which I've never played. Huge fan of both the Dunmer, especially the Telvanni and Hermaeus Mora. Then we basically have our first class where we draw our powers from a specific daedric prince and realm of oblivion, and it looks pretty sick.

Love the new companions as well, can't wait until we have one for every race. The surface level backstories seem pretty good so far. Every theme of the expansion is something I'm a huge fan of. High Isle I was a fan of actually delving deep into Breton lore and society finally but aside from that it was flat for me.

Personally I'm not ready to leave Tamriel until we feel out every location on the map first. Not a fan of a new race either since we have every race from every nation in Tamriel, any more and it becomes pretty lore breaking to have Sloads, Maormer, or Tsaesci in any of the three factions or doing their quests. Spellcrafting sounds cool but that would have involved lots of combat and cp rebalancing that we had enough of last year. And I don't PvP much so don't care about that.

I can't wait for more info and to actually play the chapter so I can give a full judgment but I'm pretty excited for this one. Only thing so far I don't like is the reduction in dungeons, I love dungeons and already thought 4 was to little, so less than that is kind of a disappointment.

I thing this is a great Setting and i like the dunmer and i love Hermaeus Mora <3 And the new class looks very cool .
But i dont think this is the most wanted Feature. Eyerone one here wonders about this Statement.
I think the most wanted was something like Spellcrafting or a new Skill Line.

Have i something miss is there a new Feature? No? Very bad :(

my personal opinion : Why again Dunmer? I think other Races get their Chapter! Because High Isle didnt go well? Is this the point we take the Nostalgia Feeling and go again to Morrorwind?

I am a Wood Elf Fan and iam tired to wait for more content for them. Not even a new House for Crown Store there get :(

And whats happening if Necrom didnt go well? We take the Nostalgie Feeling and go again to Skyrim ?
I dont like this concept ...

I think High Isle lost his special Bethesda charm. It didnt fascinate me like Greymoor or Elsweyr. And this is not the fault from bretons or the druids. Then the have so much potential to do more with them ....

and sry for my bad englisch :)

    • Trailer was absolutely amazing
    • Herma Mora stuff looks SO cool
    • Even the class looks very interesting, kind of like a GW2 Mesmer, but green
    • However, it's impossible to get excited for any new zone or class if the gameplay in Overland remains the way it is
    • I am taking NO damage, there is NO threat while questing around, NO danger and NO fun
    • [and I play naked with white weapons and no CP]
    • I do really like those Wandering World Bosses, though :astonished:
    • Will there be enormous stone chests in the Endless Dungeons, like in New World, but bursting with housing stuff?
    • And can I play with my Companion whom I am romancing because you snuck that in too?
    • Just wondering, because I really want to find something to get excited about

    Sigh.

Very disappointing. Not really in what is being released, but with the ritual blackout of information. Nothing on the upcoming DLC that is releasing in just a few weeks. Very little information about the new class. Very little information about the last half of the year.

It was pretty much a waste of my time. Do better next year, please.

    What we should get: ptn0gugs585k.png

    What we got: p1h0zlv0f575.png

Because we get class updates and quality of life updates each chapter.

    New sets, housing too

Yeah, and I am sure when ZOS reads my comment, they are confused too. The point is that each quarter, LOTRO is getting a list of updates, including events, changes, new features, and all of them are listed out. Sure, not detailed, but it is there. What ESO gets are a couple words that don't say anything at all. This show was a 2023 story reveal, and they did the absolute minimum, then called it a day.

They wasted everyone's time. They really told us nothing that could not have been done in a tweet, not that I am suggesting that be the course of action. However, it would have been cheaper than assembling that set. It probably took them longer to assemble and disassemble than the time they were actually standing there.

Now they are promising more information, but that show was when they had their chance to do exactly that, and they didn't. They know what is going on in 3Q and 4Q. They are not still making the big decisions. They are teasing instead of informing.

People like me, disillusioned by mistakes of the past, bolstered by poor communication from the studio and publisher, were looking for information that would answer questions and concerns. They didn't even follow through on what Firor said last month.

They wasted my time. I am not amused.

ESO has more content each quarter then you give it credit for. Just because it's doesn't use fillers on release schedule doesn't make it bad

Just to add, overland content is absolutely horrendously boring. I got high isle for £10 on a sale. Blasted though all of its mainstory in less and 2 hours. The lore of it is not enticing. I'm a TES lore enthusiast, but it's so dull In ESO. Will Mirrak return in Necrom ? Probably not. Mirrak is something relevant to skyrim and we haven't had a single drop of a mainstream TES game since 2011. So give us something to do with what Skyrim give us. Delving into the lore of Mirrak would be absolutely amazing. Maybe even a boss fight ? Whilst probably unlikely as he would probably solo everysingle thing in tamriel it would be so good. Make him like a Trial boss or something that takes 24 men instead of 12. Just something that we can relate to but brandnew. If we are getting 0 PvP content then I want something interesting and non regurgitated

None of this can get me anywhere excited without a roadmap of how to take the game off its current boring state with regard to combat and classes variety, and performance.

Arcanist will only be worthwhile for me if it introduces new ways to solve endgame group challenges, not if just another reskin of the same dagger-greatsword-hybrid-dot-dot-spam-spam generic character. I don't care about companions and most of the rest, glad for others if they do. I also know what content we loose but not what we get in return.

I certainly won't prebuy, I'll check during PTS is there's anything there, and if it has generated enough appeal for raid groups to reform. Not optimistic, all recent engagement with Zenimax showed the same attitude, and in the reveal they are about as exciting as the management in my own company.

I don't really buy that the holy city of Necrom would have drunk nords and free argonians wandering the streets given it's not even supposed to be Pact territory. The coin tossing rogues also didn't help sell the vibe. It's supposed to be a city of solemn worship with ghosts wandering the streets freely and a large crypt beneath but it looks like a trashy tourist trap. This is kinda why I hoped it wasn't gonna be set in Morrowind.

Arcanist looks cool and all but again... I'm probably gonna level than abandon like I did with Warden and Necromancer. I'm too deep into my main for it to be much of a feature for me.

The new companions look okay I guess but again, took me so long to level Mirri I don't see myself using them once their questlines are done. Same as with the High Isle ones.

Hermaeus Mora is one of my favourite Daedric princes and you definitely got his realm right, probably one of the things I'm most looking forward to exploring. You guys do the alien, weird worlds of TES really good (Except Morrowind). Clockwork City is a treat to explore too. Just... please, don't make him a three phase boss fight with cheap invulnarability mechanics every 33% of his health or something. In fact, don't make him a boss fight at all. It's ridiculous how many Daedric Princes we've beaten down now and it needs to stop, it's getting to the point I hope TES:VI has no references to ESO so I can consider it noncanon and take them seriously again.

Overall it just seems like every other chapter so far. A short distraction for the week it takes me to 100% it on my main, then I go back to playing other games. Probably won't be getting it until it's on discount as I think chapters have always been overpriced for what we get and I'm sick of paying. You've bloated the game with so many samey store-only cosmetics that the pre-order and deluxe bonuses don't excite me.

It seems the year-long formula is less abandoned and more just cut in half with two less DLC's for 'bug fixes' which, I haven't encountered a serious bug since 2014 when my Cadwell's gold quest broke. And performance which I only really saw tank at the start of Galen and then smooth out completely.

Also small nitpick since it's not in the game but the Cinematic was kinda ruined by the 'dark elf' that looked like a half breton half orc if such a crossbreed were possible in lore. She really doesn't have much of a TES Aesthetic to her. The eyes in particular.

Overall I'm sorry to say I'm not particularly hyped, just hoping you treat Hermaeus Mora better than you've treated Dunmer lore since this game started.

    Some feedback on the feedback:
    - When resources are finite and you want to refactor and fix things, you have to take the time away from developing new content. Fact. Don't whine about it. It's a good thing.
    - PVP fixes were not explicitly mentioned, but also not excluded. From a communication perspective, I think it's wise not to overpromise.
    - Whole heartedly agree with the fact that a new class was not the most requested feature and even if it would be, from what I recall Bard and Bruiser/Monk scored high. Not a new wizard. It was cringing to hear "we listened to you", when it's more like "sorta half listened".
    - Even though I'm not a 10+ years player, I can really feel the pain of people having invested in their main and getting nothing new. With 8 characters on the slots, I already look for new ways to make it exciting to level a new character, because you see the commonalities in the story arches and related quests.
    - Somebody mentioned Narya and similar characters as a companion. I love that idea. There are a few of those, that keep coming back. Even Stibbons could be made useful and I'd love it if he has a random screw up every now and then. Cadwell would be awesome. Pigtails wood elf Eveli. And I'd even put up Lyranth if we'd do a poll. Maybe the person who had that idea, should make a poll.

At this point, all of Tamriel will be a "Nostalgia Feeling" for someone. Are they trying to recapture the feeling of TES 3 with this? They might be trying to capitalize on that, as they did make a TES 3 reference in the reveal, but I'm not feeling it. TES 3 had nothing to do with the Telvanni Peninsula and the architecture will be ESO, not TES 3.

That said, ESO Morrowind pulled of the Nostalgia in ways that eluded Western Skyrim. When I stand in Vvardenfell, there is a feel of being in TES 3. When I stand in Western Skyrim, I have no sense that this is based at all in TES 5. The ground is the same. The feel is not.

I am a Wood Elf Fan and iam tired to wait for more content for them.

Unfortunately, the Bosmer are one of the more complete races, at least in terms of ground on Tamriel that we can stand on in ESO.
ESO has more content each quarter then you give it credit for. Just because it's doesn't use fillers on release schedule doesn't make it bad

It's not about giving credit. It's about information. The example from ESO contains very little. We know more is coming. They know more is coming. They know what is coming. The majority of this will not change unless the business halts development. Assuming the latter is not an issue, they could have done something more like what LOTRO did. They did not. I doubt they ever will. They keep the players in the dark. By the time they decide to give us a heads up on what is coming, I will have spent my money elsewhere.

Case in point... the Event Ticket rewards for 3Q and 4Q are known by ZOS and have likely been decided already. They could easily tell us what is coming, but if they have, I have not seen it. As a response, I have decided to take a step back from Event Tickets. Doing events pulls me away from other games, and I need to know my end game in order to decide where to spend my time. I can't trust ZOS to make the rewards awesome, as they have already proven that this is not guaranteed.

As a matter of fact, my plan is to uninstall ESO on XBox to make room for another game. XBox is my secondary platform for ESO and during 2022, I was keeping it alive until 2023 became more clear. The 2023 reveal did not include anything that requires me to keep it installed, as I do not plan to buy Necrom on XBox until this fall, at the earliest. I don't install/uninstall games on XBox. I usually stick with games for a good while, so I will reassess in a year.

For me, it is too early to praise or condemn ZOS for their vision of Necrom. However, one thing that we have learned from ZOS is that when they get a chance to reimagine something, or have creative control over areas that are previously unimagined, their vision will be "just like everywhere else" to a very large extent. Their zones have functional requirements above all else, and they aren't all that imaginative about how they go about it. It will reside within their comfort zone. Look at Fargrave.

So, I expect that the Telvanni Peninsula will be a blending of Vvardenfell and Deshaan, with all the conveniences and comforts of home imported from everywhere else in Tamriel.

What scares me is Apocrypha. I look back on the rather lackluster imagining of Deadlands. There are Walmarts out there with a greater sense of danger than Deadlands. I cringe when I realize that this is what awaits us in June.

The overland devs are good, but you can tell they are holding back. Whether they lack the creativity and imagination to make something really impressive, or lack the time, game, or management that can support that, is unclear.

There is one exception to this. I expect that the dungeons and delves will be amazing in how they are laid out. Early delves were often predictable circles with one way through. The new delves have multiple paths and multiple layers. I expect more of this, and I will likely get it.

Wanted something different for the upcoming Necrom Chapter
Missed the mark for me, I wanted more horizontal progression, not a new class. I will be sitting this year out, again, just like the last 2.
    PvP needs more love.

Somewhat excited for the upcoming Necrom Chapter
This seems to be a more solid update than the Breton vacation island with Scooby Doo like villains. (I really wanted a Breton DLC, but it felt flat for me, sorry).

Mora is a great prince for a new chapter, even better if the story will continue for more years.

I don't like how every year, the focus becomes some new zone, while everything else gathers dust. People are asking for a game plus mode or some way to make the other areas more appealing after many years of completing them. It is like you release a DLC only with new players in mind, people that would give it a go for a week.

There is nothing for the PvP community.

To be honest, I was pleased after the reveal, but not without considering what I wrote before. I hope to find out more details during the dev stream.

The arcanist class is great, but for people who don't want to reroll, it adds almost nothing to the game. There is no way to change the class of my main char. Most likely I will test this class on the PTS, but I prefer not to reroll, thank you. You should consider a system to change the class, maybe a token that can be used with a long cooldown (months).

The devs talk about Elder Scrolls roots so much, but this game has little to do with the Elder Scrolls character development and play how you want. Stop saying these, while people are bound to a certain class. TES games don't have classes!!! You mention games like Arena and TES2-3. In Daggerfall you could create almost any spell you wanted, you could enchant your weapon with the spell you created, regardless how absurd that spell was. You could have been a flying knight if you wanted. Alright, none says this would help a MMO like ESO, but you get the idea... people should be able to have access to way more abilities or change class somehow.

How does it help that we have several magic oriented classes? What is the difference between a sorc and an arcanist? They both draw some of their power if not all from daedric planes, right?

This is just some feedback, overall I am glad with this update.

However, I hope to see more improvements to existing systems. Rich mentioning the crafting stations issue is a relief. Housing needs more attention and more updates. PvP needs something like a separate studio now to catch up!

Oh and can I just say I'm worried about how Naryu will be handled. There needs to be a real, significant conversation about what happened in Balmora. Not a "Yeah that was wild, anyway I've been assassining for the last six years thanks for asking! Now how about we kill these evil vampires for my contract?" like with every other recurring character because someone might, god forbid, choose to play the game in the wrong order and it's an elder scrolls game so there can neeeever be a wrong order!!!!

Please, Morrowind is part of the base game. Make Naryu's quest there a REQUIREMENT to do her quest in Necrom if you have to, just give us some meaningful closure on that story or you'll retroactively damage it.

EDIT: Just found out this is EXACTLY (Completely ignoring Balmora) almost word for word what you've already done with the Zeal of Zenithar event... (I didn't even know she showed up then so I missed it). Christ...

It would have been nice if the chapter offered rpg features for existing characters. But do what you will do in the end. Such is life.
