The only thing Red Dead didn't get right about horses was the constant poop animation which was way off (animation was fine but horses don't poop every 5 mins lol). Even the Mules in RDR2 look amazing.

And how some breeds which got unique gaits didn't get those. Like the Missouri Fox Trotter doesn't fox trot.

I hadn't noticed that until I watched some footage after you pointed it out. I kinda assumed that they didn't go all out on gaited horses because a lot of these breeds rely on heavy training to get the gaits we associate with them. I was surprised that they included the Arabian, Turkoman, Dutch Warmblood etc. but not the Quarter Horse. I mean Quarters are the quintessential cowboy horse and yet they're absent from the game.

I am glad though to see both Walkers and Fox Trotters featured as everyday horses. A lot of people only associate them with shows but they're wonderful everyday horses. It's also weird that there are so many non-geldings. It makes sense for the wild horses but most of the stable horses are not going to be stallions/studs. But those are all nitpicks.

They took the dog/cat animation skeleton (that's where the stupid bent hindlegs come from) and slapped a horse model on them. If you look, all the cat and horse and indrik mounts - and even the gryphons - have these bent legs.

It's not that they don't know what horses look like. They decided to cut corners by reusing the skeletons of various mounts.

No, the dog/cat/horse skeletons are different. The horses have been here since launch, and they've been copying the horse skeleton for the elk/indrik/goat. The gryphon is using the senche-raht skeleton, which is something else entirely that came with Elsweyr. The horse skeleton has been horrid from the start, and I have no idea why the dev team keep reusing it for new types of mounts instead of redoing it and doing it properly.

To be fair though, they did try to do something about it back in 2016:
    joht4xifbicz.png
iirc it never went live (this is from PTS) as there seemed to be some issues with the animation (or rather, laziness because it seemed they only adjusted the skeleton rather than redoing it, so whenever the horse came to a halt it would slide from the original standing pose to the new one. It didn't look good).

I do think it's the same person who made the original dogs and horses, but the skeletons are different, and I also don't think that person had a clue what horses look like.

Oh yeah, that really puzzled me. I may not be super into horses but Quarter Horses has been one I really liked and was surprised there was none in RDR2. Not even in Online where more breeds where added. It's like THE western horse.

And to stay on topic. I've talked about it man times that ZOS needs to scrap the whole horse model. They still keep on lazily (and mostly badly) adjust the old one they have. It's still the same skeleton under there which they barely adjust.
Just throw it in the bin, look at some proper horse models from other games and real life ones and redo the whole thing.
Horse mounts and the ones who uses the same skeleton stick out so badly compared to the other type of mounts which looks much better.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

this is obviously a caricature. there's no other possible explanation.

why they'd caricature horse mounts is beyond me though. :)

is its mouth at least closed or does it stay absurdly open like the rest of the caricature horses?

A better idea would be 5000 crowns for the multi saddle just to use it on all my mounts I already have rather than this horse. We spend so much on crown and crown gem mounts I think it would be a better option to buy the saddle alone.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

You might not like their shaggy sturdy look, but they are some of the most 'horsey' horses in any game - based on Clydesdales I believe - I just wish they did more *stuff*. The horses in Oblivion were ok, but much improved by Alienslof's mod.

Thank you for the compliments! At a time of battling failing health, finding these just out of the blue totally made my day!

I finally did see one of these in the game this morning and they are just as bad as people have been saying. For a draft horse, it's too thin, the texture is flat and dull, the hind legs look more like noodles than legs. Mane is not the same colour as the tail, and also incredibly flat-looking.

Whoever designed the original horse skeleton clearly had never really studied horse anatomy at all. I recently found RDR2 on sale and tried it out - the horses in that game are amazing, best I've seen in a game, and behave like horses. I accidentally punched my horse as I was getting used to the controls and he turned around and kicked me hard!

I rode and bred horses when I was younger, and seeing the ESO ones always make me die a little inside.

RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

I have to admit that the back leg thing doesn't bother me. I guess I just don't look at the legs that much. Although I'm all for fixing them. What does bother me is that it was released as a specific mount as opposed to functionality for all mounts.

It's kind of like the outfit slot or armory slot topic for me, but much worse. I've already purchased so many mounts based on how they look... I don't want to have to choose a specific mount to get special functionality. Especially if it doesn't match my outfit!!

Luckily I don't really care about this, however I have friends who do and encourage me to get on the mount.... having to remember which ones are multi-mounts, in about a year from now as more are released - just ugh.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

As someone who enjoys horse related games and who loves horses in general, I immediately noticed the severe anatomical errors present on this mount. It looks horrendous. I'm able to ignore the errors on other horse mounts, but those made on this one are pretty inexcusable.

Did no one think to look at a reference image of a horse before deciding to alter it?

Did no one think to do some research on how people actually ride double? Yes, double saddles such as these do exist- but it would have looked SO much better to just have a single saddle, and let the person behind you sit behind your saddle.

It's beyond me as to why they think it's okay to just...shift the legs of the animal into an unnatural position just to accommodate it being a double mount. A horses back does not magically get longer, nor do its legs magically bend out of position, to accommodate a second rider.

The way this mounts legs are positioned is worse than the other draft horse models in the game- if you look at this mount in comparison to the Holdbreaker Warhorse, for example, you can see that its anatomical errors are far worse and the alterations done to the back legs become even more glaring.

By the way? There is a horse game for kids that I play with my younger cousins and family to spend time with them during lockdown when I can't see them (gaming of all kinds was my families go-to for being together during lockdown), and somehow, the company manages to make relatively anatomically correct horses with some very nice animations. Here is an example of one of their draft horses, which is far more detailed, albeit in a cartoonish style, but with better gates, overall position, and idle animations than anything ESO has ever had to offer:

Family-Friendly Game's Shire horse (blurry youtube screenshots, forgive me- screenshots are caught in mid-stance so the stance might be slightly off, since these don't stand like statues as ESO's horses do, but instead have a complete set of idle animations )

ESO (Credit to ESO fasion for this screenshot, as I would never purchase this horse)

If a family friendly game can do such amazing work and sell their horses for less, why isn't ZOS trying harder? These mounts even have correct animations for jumping, rearing, backing up, and can move through various gallop gates.

    I rest my case.
    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die

Also, what's the deal with that over-sized saddle blanket? The mount does not even need it.

And the hair over the hooves looks more like feathers. :#

And people are actually paying 5k crowns for this? I am not sure what is more crazy. How bad it looks or that people would still pay for it at that unbelievable price. [snip]

needs more earnable mounts in the game i have no idea why its on the crown store,, the stable masters should have quests to do for earning the mounts.. and others too-- some mounts only on event tickets and thats good .. but really look at wow.. and other games like ff.. and others they have earnable mounts in game by doing normal quests from the stable masters.. and i think this cool idea.,.
    why
beacuse then there is more content to earn .
and people might like to do more for mounts than spend all the time in the crown store,.
the thing is.. we could buy the two mounted horse for 1 mil at the stable masters that would been fine ..

someone needs to ride this poor deformed horse to the side of the road, and put it out of its misery....

I saw one in game, and literally went ewwww, I'm sorry BUT this does not look like a 5k crown worthy purchase to me.

B-but what about the Crown store???? It has all the mounts you could dream of spending hundreds of dollars on.
Lol jk, I fully agree. I think it's really sad that there is barely anything earnable via actual gameplay. Honestly, I took a longggg break from ESO back in Greymoor because it felt like they were knocking out more new content for the Crown store every week than they made for the actual chapter/zone <.< and it still feels like that, I've just became more tolerant and that's very sad of me.

Maybe this is meant to distract from the hind legs... but unfortunately it doesn't work. :D
