Thanks for the update! This is hands down the best post I've seen in these forums in a while. I really don't want to spend any more 6 hour sessions running around hoping it finally drops. Happy to hear there is at least a chance of a less frustrating experience in future.

I brought up EverQuest when I was in Shadowfen on the weekend farming the chains for set drops, and reading zone chat. These newer MMO players don't take kindly to that kind of effort. The entitlement is pretty much off the chart, but don't you dare suggest that! Don't believe me? Mention EQ and how it usually took 3 months of continual camping to get a final epic weapon drop, and you'll be submerged in a tsunami of Zoomer outrage and abuse.
I mean, a few hours camping is nothing. Enjoy the ride.

This is exactly why I didn't play Everquest for very long in the first place. The grinding was insane. Calling it "entitlement" to expect enjoyment from a game that you're paying for in order to have fun is completely ridiculous. This is not asking for money for doing no work - this is time and money we spend in order to enjoy our leisure time by playing a game.

Not as engaging as standing in a swamp for hours, I admit.

Yes, technically all leads "should" drop this way in terms of immersion - via books, notes, etc. But the fact that they drop via multiple in-game means is excellent game design - it encourages people to participate in aspects of the game they might otherwise not.
The apologists who run to the defense of this lead utterly baffle me. What is engaging about this? or enjoyable? or profitable? or interesting? Nothing. It's mind-numbing and sucks all the excitement out of the chapter for anyone who's interested in obtaining the Kilt.
It's a Mythic item. They shouldn't drop like candy.
And in about a month, nobody will be in Shadowfen and you can leisurely run from node to node while you do other stuff to obtain the lead.
The game is designed to be played as a whole. If you are going to go off the deep end on one aspect, that is entirely on you.

I agree, but it is also a terrible design and people providing feedback are performing a valuable service for ZoS when they consider such designs in the future.

The change needs to be the zone. Extend the search area to anywhere with water nodes.
FinrodMacBeorn wrote: »With a drop rate of 1% and an average respawn rate of 3 min (just educated guesses), the average time to get the lead would be 100x3 min = 5 h - if you just camp a single node and do something else while keeping an eye on your char to let the time not be a complete waste.

In my opinion it's a bit too late - a lot of us have already farmed the item and suffered the hours required to get it.
I'd prefer it if our feedback can be kept in mind when the next mythic item leads are planned - so that we don't have this kind of thing happen again.
