uhhm, just thought of this: Since we can romance them, does the ring of mara work on them for the 10% experience bonus when hunting together?

Personally I would also like to be able to use companions in veteran arena's. As I do not care about the leaderboards or the gear at the end. Maybe exclude players from the leaderboards when they use a companion in the veteran arena.

Perhaps they would also be useful in a fight? Bad memories of the rather useless companion in Skyrim :(
I have an ethereal crown of three spirit crows:
    - On top is Grandfather spouting words of wisdom.
    - On the left is Empathy who is rather naive.
    - On the right is Ego who is rather greedy.
The incessant cackling is quite amusing.

Any idea if we can use Companions as houseguests?

I'm a solo player, and the only place I would 'personally' really need a companion would be dungeons. Overland is easy enough without them, except maybe for a World Boss, maybe.

I normally only do normal dungeons, mostly solo or duo with wife, just to get gear. I only do vet dungeons if I need monster sets.

That being said, I hope the group finder provides an option to 'not' allow companions. I'd hate to finally queue up for a vet dungeon because I need gear, and then find out there are companions in there. Vets and DLC dungeons have mechanics, how is a companion going to handle that?

How will gear drops work with companions? I would keel over and die if someone's companion got the helm I was farming for, heh.

What about making the existing houseguests into companions?

That's a good option too, they already have a backstory. Just set up some quests to unlock the 'companion' portion.

Speaking of quests, it seems companions are only going to work per TOON, not per account, since they are tied to quests.
I see a LOT of questing in my future, 8^(.

I guess that means companions will be WAY too overpowered for the questing experience in Overland. I'm currently gearless and CP-less to eek out the smallest amount of challenge in the Overland (which mostly just slows down the fights--I'm still in no real danger of dying). I guess my companion would have to be equally naked as well, perhaps fighting with only their fists.

there is nothing wrong with this. more players than not play the single player part of this game for the story and not the challenge. more people than not played skyrim on the easiest setting for the same reasons.

going through this game story - and i include all three factions here - is quite lengthy. one of the longer ones in the industry given how relatively young this game is.

My biggest concern is that the location will now have more NPCs. In cities and at anchors. And also NPCs will interfere with talking to the banker and completing crafting dailys.

Well that's settled then. Once the Chapter releases, I'm coming back to ESO full-time. I think I'm going to really enjoy going around doing quests with my companion.

Although, overland quests are already pathetically easy, requiring me to use an alt character which has low-level gear, no impactful champion points slotted, and no impactful skills/morphs active. I'd imagine a companion would make overland content even easier, which is sad.

The real question is if they are account-wide? I'm going to be exploring the world and questing with my weak alt, but I don't want to have to go back to my main and re-do everything with a new companion just to unlock the functionalities of it.

I’m not opposed to having companions in game (provided they don’t autoproc lag and disconnects) and I’ll probably find a role for them on some of my toons, but still, there’s something antithetical about the concept in an MMO

Some yet to be announced features I will need:

    - Set companions outfit: Cant just have my adventuring buddies wearing whatever they please. They need to be matching with dominion approved styles and colors.

    - Costumes: Will also need to be able to equip costumes to companions so they have more casual wears for about the town and when we attend the queens fancy dinner parties. It would be quite unacceptable for them to show up to the queens party in bloody armor. My good friend Raz would give me quite the earful. Again I will also need to change the colors on these, cant have them wearing non dominion approved colors. If they were to show up with blue or red attire that would cause a fuss and be very embarrassing to all.

    - Houseguest: Would be cool if they could be a houseguest when we are not out adventuring and saving the world.

Also quen.... Im need a romancable quen companion. Most important.

Seriously, additional pets for companions? Plus banker, merchant, twilight, warden bear...? Why not a whole zoo?

Yes. Yes, I want. I want to gather my party before venturing forth, with each party member having the same visual options as any player character.

The customisation worries me a little.

This could fall anywhere between a massive grind to unlock, level and gear them on every character, to everything account wide. The first option would be a complete nightmare and the second not enough.

The way I can see it working is for the companion itself to be account wide, but still need levelling per character. I'm more worried about gear tho. Will we need 18 full sets of additional gear to have it ready on all our characters? The alternative is one setup for all of them so it'll need respeccing every time you play your tank and want an extra DD or your DD needing a tank.

Hopefully they'll find a happy medium and actually introduce loadouts, and for our characters too - we can hope anyway! :D

This is not modded Skyrim or Oblivion :(

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I play a lot of SWTOR, they have a lot to live up to, especially as there are only two of them.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

We should be able to equip companions with unlocked hair styles, skins, markings, etc. I know they're not going to have it because zeni always misses the mark on something that could be amazing

    Companions Feature
"I think we've learned a lot over the years. And one of the main, recurring themes that we've heard from players, especially our more hardcore Elder Scrolls people, is people are scary. And there's some content that they aren't necessarily comfortable within a large group, but they would do with a couple of close, trusted friends. And so the beauty of this system and one of my hopes is, you know, you and a buddy could go and do four-player dungeons because you have two companions to help you out."

I'm glad to read this is the goal. Me and my friends stop playing a while back, we would love to do all the dungeons but tbf we are kind of casual players that love to go superslow, take breaks in the middle of a dungeons, read the dialogues, etc. But at the same time we like challenges, so all the new dungeons in vet mode were not doable for us since we are only 3, and again, one of us very casual, low CP. I hope companions can help us playing at our rythm, now I'm really tempted to buy at full price, something I haven't done since MOrrowind chapter. I will consider it.

"you can equip gear on them, you can assign them to a specific role; so if you need a tank, you can have them go tanky, or healer or damage dealer. You can set their skills that they use and the order they use them in."

What role requires more of a "human touch"? Maybe leave the companions to dps, while heal and tank should be human? Would love to read your opinions!

A companion to me would have voiceover and my own character should also have voiceover.

    Fully customizable looks.

    A database hog.

    A Breton.

    I can skill her.

I want her to have an opinion on my main's choices. Even without opening dialogue.

I want her to love fashion just as much as I do.

    No cash shop incentives.
    That's it, that's all.
