I'm wondering: Do you have a favorite in-game book? If so, which one is it, and why?

The forceful expression of will gives true honor to the Ancestors.
Sarayn Andrethi, Telvanni mage (Main)
Darvasa Andrethi, his "I'm NOT a Necromancer!" sister

I think you know the answer, it involves an argonian maid. I really like the Vivec sermons too.

There is no book which I can call my absolute favourite... I like many books, for different reasons. In some I like the story, in others I like some certain parts :)

I like mudcrabs, and I like how they are described in this book - some fun details there:

    uYuX73d.jpg

Dragonknight class has the most awesome visuals in the game for me, and I like how it's written here:

    AjYvX4J.jpg

I loved Murkmire quests and lore, it's very unusual overall. Dead Water tribe was really unique, and the way they formulate their thoughts is interesting:

Something about necromancy... I really wish necromancer class was cooler, and not part of justice system:

Yep, the Argonian maid is amusing. And it's better than the rip-off about the Argonian footman ;) And Vivec's lessons are "interesting" to say the least... I just lately found Sermon 37 (I really missed it until now...). It really allows some curious interpretations.

As that poem is totally unknown in Europe, the first time I heard it was a Simpsons episode where it's read in a really creepy manner by Christopher Walken :D Can't get that out of my head. The TES version is cute somehow.

@Fischblut Thanks! :) There are some I haven't seen before. The mudcrab book reminds me a bit of the guidebook for nixhound owners. That was also a fun little read.

My favourite books are the ones that have helped me write my headcanon and character back-stories, primarily...

Chaotic Creatia: The Azure Plasm by Doctor Rhythandius

and although it didn't make it into the game...

    On Soul Shriven by Mannimarco

My particular favourite at the moment is Vivec's 37th Sermon, not because of the stuff about Vivec but because of this little nugget:
[…] the tower, where the Void Ghost squatted over a drake-scaled drum, imbecile in its rhythm. And he [Vivec] asked of it, "Who are you, that need no signature at all?"
Got to love that drake-scaled drum :)

I have to google it. Immediately.

Somehow makes me think of "The Rats In The Walls" by H. P. Lovecraft:
"Nyarlathotep, the mad faceless god, howls blindly in the darkness to the piping of two amorphous idiot flute-players."

The ones that talk about how Bosmer were stealthy at the beginning. Such wistful memories!

I found the Investigator Vale series of books from Summerset to be quite entertaining!

It's interesting how different the answers are.

If I had to name a favorite... It might be this. It's not really exciting, not funny either, but I like it for certain sentimental reasons.

Part of my family was from a culture where ancestor veneration is common, so it reminds me of a long lost home a bit. Actually, it's a feeling I have with Morrowind altogether - of course many aspects are foreign, it's fantasy fiction after all, but there are also a lot of things which feel really familiar to me. Familiar - but not ordinary, as they're not common here in Europe where I live.

I didn't know that video yet.

There are a lot of story and lore rich ones I love but I can't remember names. Another amusing one that stands out recently was found in a cave inthe north east of western Skyrim with a musical instrument and its a script of what happened in the bards college and how they fell out. It made me choke with laughter.

If you don't already know about this-

If you REALLY feel like going down a rabbit hole, there's a message hidden in the book that will get you the link to a website. I'll leave this purposefully vague; if you don't feel like decoding, it's easy to find on the Google.

The one in Greymoor who teach you how to speak Dwemer. Very funny :)

Edit : Find a link to it :

    How to Pronounce Dwemer Names

    Also for lazy :
    Spoiler
There are many different thoughts on the pronunciation of Dwemer names. I just sat through a discussion with my master and several other scholars. As always, "learned" scholars disagree on one thing or another. They also love the sound of their own voices droning on about Dwemer nomenclature.

After sifting through what names we do know, and sitting through that long-winded scholarly review, I have distilled the knowledge to provide a guide on Dwemer pronunciation for my fellow aspiring scholars:

    - First, inhale deeply
    - Second, drink a full glass of mead or Cyrodillic brandy, whichever you prefer.
    - Inhale deeply again
    - Put four to seven smooth rounded pebbles in your mouth
    - Attempt to say your name, or any word, but try to add an "S" sound to the end of it every other time
    - Emphasize either the third or fourth syllable in an exaggerated manner (unless it is a two-syllable name)

Not funny so much as adding to character development, I really like the Chronicles of the Companions that get added to the Harborage as you proceed through the main quest. In particular, Sai Sahan gets much-needed backstory.

Kurog also gets more story in a set of lorebooks, as does Divath Fyr in the basic racial stylebooks.

My favorite story is probably The Firsthold Revolt. Another historical book that somehow appears centuries before their characters' parents are even born.
Wonder if there will ever be a quest involving a magic library that explains why these yet unwritten books are around? Time rift? Hermorus Moira?
