Given the state of the game now, would you recommend ESO to a friend?

    Definitely no.

It's a slog to get into the real meat of the game. A new player will just take too long to reach the point where real progression starts to take shape. From level 1-CP160 you're basically just grinding.

ESO+ is nefarious af. If you wanna play the game seriously you need it. I would actually support ESO+ if the rest of the game wasnt filled with an absurd amount of microtransactions.

The constant shifting of the meta means newer players cant be confident in what they invest into. Vets have the gold to buy new gear, craft it, and upgrade it.

Subpar group finder. (Seriously why are we still looking in zone chat for raid groups).

Oh and performance is doodoo still.

Yes, but only because the issues that the end game players suffer from wouldn't bother a casual, newcomer who starts from questing.

I'll let them do the judgement if they can get past the newcomer phase.

I would however advice that servers may be sometimes unavailable and that they should avoid Crown Store

I actually recommended this game and got 2 friends copies before Greymoor launched. We're all right back to playing FF14 right now, with the state ESO is in they just quit. It was a mistake to bring them to PvP, but the other one quit anyway saying their issue is the combat.

I cannot , unless I want my friend to hate me. Balance is one thing that can be argued about and debated, but performance and bugs are not.

    Would need an "other" option

For PVE (group or otherwise), questing, exploration, etc .. : A big resounding yes. It's the best MMO I've ever played on these front. Also, the performance in PVE is quite good, I never have any problems, except 1-2 days right after a big launch. Really, nothing out of the ordinary.

For PVP : I'd be a tad cautious. There seems to be problems in cyrodiil. I can't be sure, since I go there extremely rarely, and when I do, It works mostly fine. Probably just luck.

But you know .. that poll .. it's obviously biased, since people saying no are more likely to answer.

I bought the game for a friend recently and she got addicted in a short time. Despite all its flaws it's still a fun game and I enjoy it more than other MMOs I've played. I feel ESO is a good game to play it does need a lot of work fixing bugs and lag and what not but I still enjoy it. I mean we wouldn't be playing it if we didn't.

Played since beta, love the game, hate the performance.

Ive convinced about 10 irl friends to buy the game during the years ive played. None have played for more than a few weeks due to subpar performance of this mmo. The performance hasnt gotten any better during the years and ive simply given up on ever getting anyone to actually experience how fun the game can be at times.

Whenever i try to get someone to play with me these days they just reply "but the game doesnt actually work", and tbh all i can do is agree.

On the first one...most mmos are a grind. This one feels far less grindy than others in fact I had a friend who I bought this for reached over 50 in a week had multiple toons over 50 with a few weeks and in her first couple of months or so she got over four hundred cp and that was just from questing and dungeon runs/random normal.

Well...you don't really need it I survived years without it. But if you want to do any crafting or store crafting items then yeah you need it otherwise not really. And how many other games give us that? In fact most MMOs force you to subscribe if you even want to keep playing. I mean look at WoW or Final Fantasy XIV or lots of other MMOs that you can't keep playing unless you keep paying.

This is a common thing with MMOs as well.

I prefer to do group content with people I know or just ask in my guilds. Not really big on just doing runs with randomers personally but maybe it could be improved.

Now this is actually an issue and yeah it needs to be fixed. That and their communication but a lot of the rest of your issues are pretty much standard MMO things. The game I agree has its problems but I'd say the performance is the biggest one and well their lack of communication.

If I didn't like the game I wouldn't play it, it's that simple.

    It isn't that simple.

A lot of people have invested a lot of time and money in the game, its not that easy to quit just like that.
Compare it to a bad marriage - but they have children and a mortage and common friends. Splitting up isn' t "that easy".

Of course it is. It's a video game. Games are supposed to be fun. It's not a law bound socioeconomic union of two people who depend on eachother financially and emocionally and often have offspring. When I got tired of ESO I just stopped playing it, then after a year or so I gave it another go and I enjoy it so far. As soon as I'm bored I'll go somewhere else since my fun time is precious to me and I don't like wasting it. So either you enjoy the game or you don't, it's not a job, you can quit it or at least take a break no strings attached. Complaining about flaws is not bad, ESO is by far a not ideal game and could use some improvements here and there, but negative threads like this where people over and over state that this game is dead and unplayable are just silly. I still have fun and this is why I play and would recommend this game. When it becomes unplayable to me like some forum users state I'll just play something else and maybe check out later if ESO improved. You know what they say, "there's plenty of games on the Steam". ;)

Still the most fun pvp experience, you all must be in the main campaign during peak hours talking about lag. My experience is nothing like that on PS4 in the other cp campaign.

A couple of days ago a work friend of mine asked if I was still playing because him and another bloke I work with were thinking of coming back.

I hate to say it but I recommended not. Purely due to performance. Not worth it. Too frustrating. And I myself am withdrawing from the game more and more.

Its not like im expecting that If i have another break I can come back aftet they resolve some core issues. I just dont have any confidence that they are capable anymore.

It sucks because there is some amazing content in ESO.

At this moment only NO. The game itself is great, but if i was to recommend this to a friend i would warn then that at every stage in this game they have geared it completely towards you pretty much needing to buy Crowns if you won't want the following:

To be able to RUN faster than your horse can gallop. Sometimes you feel that even a 'Merchant' has a chance to overtake you.

To have an inventory size that is in line with the amount of loot and items you have to manage. Sure you can BUY bag space once you've amassed enough gold, but lets be honest the new player experience does not grant you a ton of gold for this, and you have to run around with awful bag space.

I will also advise that if you like crafting at all, then you likely also need to get ESO+ mandatory as what you get when you don't is unworkable.

But the biggest current reason for the NO is due to the huge number of still existing issues/bugs that has been more present since greymoor and cause issues constantly.

And then you have the downtimes of the server, and the extended downtimes, and then the downtimes to extend that too.. so i'd tell them to expect days at a time with no option to play.
Champion level chars: Nord Warden (Tank):50 Khajiit Nightblade (stam dual blade):50 High Elf Necromancer (magicka dps):50 Dragonknight (Tank):50 Sorcerer Vampire: 50
    Also levelling: Templar (dps)

I should add that despite being able to boost mounted speed etc, this is only once per day you can do it... so its a long hike without spending crowns. 2 months to be precise before you have 60% extra

I understand your points well .- but then again the question was would you recommend to a friend to play ESO. And in this case they would already have a contact person in game - namely you - and you could just help them over the first hurdles, like buying them inventory and bank space - shouldn't be hard for you if you are an experienced player. Your points are ok with a stranger, but a friend míght well enjoy it with some help from you.

Absolutely, in fact, I did on Tuesday.

It depends on what you are recommending it for, and the solo questing experience is still top-notch, great stories great characters you start to care about and some of it a really nice crunchy experience even if it doesn't change the world

I would not recommend it for some PVP player

I would go on about how at least dungeons and quests still work but....

Everything is choppy, buggy, messy, laggy, and just plain awful.

When you join dungeons sometimes it doesn't let you travel to the dungeon. Sometimes it lags so bad it freezes, and some, if not all, members disconnect to main menu... its embarrassing.

Quest markers don't always work, among other things, so I can't even recommend questing. One of my quest rewards just... vanished... I was supposed to get some gauntlets/gloves (can't remember what they were) from the psijic quest line, and as soon as I accepted them they were nowhere to be found. Guess a daedric prince robbed me and took my reward to oblivion...

I love ESO, but come on... how much longer are we expected to put up with this. There are a lot of new players (based on my recent dungeon pug groups) and everyone comments/asks if things are always this bad.... what am I supposed to say?

Yes, I would. Because the problems I keep hearing about, like crashes, lag spikes, input lag and so on, I do not experience and I can do all the things I love doing in this game: questing, running dungeons with friends and housing. The handful of people I could recommend this game to have similar interests.

Now, if I'd play pvp more often than the usual one or two weeks a year I most likely would feel very, very different.

Those that REALLY hate the game quit and move on to pastures new or spend their time moaning on the forums.

I don't hate it. for the most part i enjoy it. but I'm also aware of all the issues with it, I have just learned to live with most of them. I wouldn't want a friend to hate it, just because I didn't bother warning them about all those issues.
