Given the state of the game now, would you recommend ESO to a friend?

Well, today isn't the best time to be asking this question. After all, even if you did they couldn't play. That's kind of a bad prank than recommendation.

I actively encourage everyone I know that games to avoid ZMI titles. They're starting to make EA look like the good guys.

If they are fairly casual PvE players and wouldn't mind the super-easy overland combat, absolutely. There's a lot of great stuff in the game, and unless you're a super-elite player you can find challenges.

Of course I would. What else would I recommend to them? Bless Online??

And no matter what people might say abour poor PVP performance or how Greymoor is boring or laggy or whatnot... None of that changes the fact that both the vanilla game and all the existing DLC are great.

Orsinium is still a great story, Vvardenfell is still a beautiful DLC, Murkmire is still unique and interesting.

I can't even get some of my die hard Elder Scrolls friends to play this game because its an MMO, and then all my MMO friends wouldn't touch ESO due to the fact it doesn't interest them for a myriad of reasons. Only things I can really recommend about ESO right now is it lets you play a werewolf or vampire, has large scale 3 faction PVP, and pretty good housing. With the performance issues plaguing it if I tried to recommend it for the combat I'd be laughed out of the room.

Depends what their focus is. If they are largely a solo player or someone who would largely stick to the PvE side of things, I really don't think this game is that bad. But if he has even the mildest interest in PvP at all, this game is hard pass and you should never look back. I've only been playing 6 months or so but this is easily the worst PvP experience in an MMO I've seen probably since Shadowbane's initial release. And even there they eventually got things under control. There is no conceivable way PvP in ESO can be galled anything short of an unmitigated disaster and there are infinitely better games out there you could be playing.

No, not anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy and play the game when it actually does work but I can't recommend it at this point. There's been too many long standing problems that few others MMO face and single player games offer a more immersive experience. The new player experience is messy too and I find most people just give up when presented with immediate hurdles.

Oh yeah, sorry... my bad. More people are playing this game than ever before...

Are there issues? Of course. But I don't think it makes the game unplayable.... and apparently I'm in good company.

Even with all the foibles and missteps it is a helluva game with a ton of really good content. So yes I'd recommend it to a friend with the caveat that if they are into PVP they should look elsewhere, which is a shame as this game has really pretty good PVP when it works, which it hasn't for about 6 months.

YES, why wouldn't I? It's a great game, been playing since Beta. Admittedly it has it's ups and downs (LIKE ANY OTHER MMO) but the fact remains A LOT of people play the game and enjoy it.

Those that REALLY hate the game quit and move on to pastures new or spend their time moaning on the forums.

Early in the quarantine - I had the idea that I would buy each of my family members an XBOX so they could finally play ESO with me - and provide a fun & easy way for us to stay in touch.

My Dad played TES 3 & 4, and made my 3 nieces Morrowind characters with invincible gear, so they could run around and try it out. I was so excited that even at their very young age, they totally knew what a Golden Saint was, and talk about Dagoth Ur with frightened voices. This was so exciting to me!

And, even though the prices for consoles had skyrocketed due to short supply while many people were stuck at home, I was of the mind-set that it would still be worth the extra cost. I went ahead and bought 6 copies of the Gold Edition (which were on sale) as a starting point.

After seeing the state of the game on PC after the Greymoor update, I got a refund for my own XBOX copy of the CE version I purchased the minute it was available after the reveal stream in January, and returned the 6 copies of the Gold Edition I bought for them - thus avoiding actually going ahead with the console purchases.

I wonder if a positive recommendation on my part - resulting in 6 brand new accounts - would have been worth it to the company, as an incentive to secure this many new players’ lifetime of love & commitment to the Elder Scrolls franchise.

    Sigh.

There is a huge disclaimer here. If they are interested in ES games and like to quest, RP, and maybe do some group PVE content, this game has a lot to offer.

If their main goal is to PVP. Absolutely NOT. The current state of PVP is an embarrassment to everything that is Elder Scrolls.

Game it self is good. On par with WOW on fun factor.

Technical side of the game is on par with F2P Koran MMO-s. Amazingly poor with servers lacking power to handle player numbers.

So would I recommend ? No
Multiple people I use to play WOW with ask me what do I play and would I recommend it.

Answer is always the same - ESO, great game that I would not recommend to anyone.
From lag through skills not firing, rubber banding, random disconnects, login server dies every time there is something new in game and if you like PVP the server performance will shock you.

Well, considering we (in the EU) haven't even been able to log in for 10 hours now, what exactly do you expect?

...and no, this does not happen in "ANY OTHER MMO" I have ever played.

I never really get the chance - it's "out there" that the game is great, but the company can't run their servers or manage their code. If I hadn't been here since 2014 I would have quit already. They are certainly making it hard to stick around.

If you can't even log on, that is the very definition of "unplayable", surely?

I word it like this. It is enjoyable when things work. But be prepared for bugs and broken promises. If you want play it casually and enjoy overland stuff which there is a lot then go for it, but if you play for the numbers and enjoy endgame and pvp then you will be frustrated at ZoS every day. But I normally point them to G2A to get it on the cheap.

    Only if I really......really didn't like them.

You have to burry your head in the sand and do nothing but dailies to not encounter the hundreds of concurrent bugs, experience the worst performance ever (6 years post launch), find overland pve astoundingly easy/boring, get tired of the flip flop directionless balance attempts, and less and less content packed "expansions" chapters that disappoint more and more.
