What's the big deal of making a big deal of people's post and complaining about it?
While they really could keep maintenance at "off hours", while the fewest possible number of players would be offline - I really think we should not complain about extended maintenance. Perhaps it can help out a little bit with the other thing people complain about, the performance. It's far from guaranteed, not even likely, but if they are doing something, it's more likely it helps than if they are doing little or nothing.
The ESO clientele feels a little like an obnoxious partner sometimes, nothing you ever do is right. No matter how and when, it should have been done differently. Damn you if you do, damn you if you don't kind of stuff.
You do realize that your "off hours" are many times prime time for us in the land down under? There simply is not a perfect time so most obvious choice is during their working hours...kinda makes sense.

We've removed some posts from this thread as they violated our rules on bashing and baiting. I clicked on this topic because I thought "good question" when reading the title, AND because apparently someone from zos posted an answer. But of course this is not an answer to the question about the maintenance. It's just another message to tell us to shut up. Typical. I'll go back to the games I have that works

Hamsters are trying to break the world record for longest reboot in history - previously held by same hamsters but hey, why not try and secure record and make it unassailable
There was a Soviet or Russian (I forget exactly when this was) pole vaulter who got a bonus each time he set a new world record. So he made sure to only break it by the minimal amount each time, and wound up collected 10 or 20 such bonuses.

You started A WHOLE NEW TOPIC whinining why the maintenance kept more than they said and you say that I made a big deal out of it? I only answered to your illogical topic, didn't start a new one for absolutely no reason. IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE to have extended downtime during maintenance because unexpected issues are common with such complicated hardware and software. There is absolutely no reason to act as if they stole your sweetroll and stop making a big deal just because you lost a few hours from your play time.
