While I know absolutely nothing about "gear scores" etc. the one thing I liked with the LotRO player inspection window was the section where people could write a short biog about their character. Those were always fun to read.
"So, drinking is a sacrament to Y'ffre... because it's his way of reminding us not to take things too seriously... You know how the other Elves are. Altmer have their crystal towers, and that's how they want to be — cold and perfect. And Dunmer are just like their Red Mountain — smouldering and dark. We just want to have a drink and not worry about it."

Some people trully believe they run unique set combination, and with inspection avaliable other players gonna steal that "insane" gear composition idea.

Why should a build matter so much to be top secret? It's almost like there's a bunch of cheesy PVP builds that players know would get nerfed if they knew how easy it was.

If it was as skill based as people say, builds wouldn't matter.

    super sekrit builds donut steal.

Dude, there's like ~50 'viable' PvP sets. A lot of them have obvious proc effects. It's not hard to "reverse engineer" this stuff.
I don't need to a build inspector to tell if the cheeselord is running meridias.

Wouldn't mind it honestly. Personally I'd give advice to players with sub optimal gear and try to help them become better players. I feel like the people opposed to this are the ones who get kicked constantly in PUGs and if this was implemented it would further ostracize them. To be fair if you're getting kicked often maybe it's time to do some research. There's plenty of info on the internet.

As for "I wanna keep my build a secret," I'll let you know now that if the build is worth running it ain't a secret. Endgame players have found the most optimal setups and the information is public. Your "secret" build probably isnt worth stealing unfortunately but that doesnt mean it isnt worth running. If it works for you and you preform good with it by all means keep running it. You only need like 20k dps to do a majority of the content in the game anyway.

Secret builds is what brings flavor to the game, and the ability to create something of your own keeps the game alive, atleast for me.

Imagine it this way, what if you were the one that painted the Mona Lisa, how would you feel if every painting in the world became an exact copy of it, because people are too lazy to create a masterpiece of their own? Thats how the game becomes when everyone use the same stuff, it becomes gray and boring.

That wouldn't be a good thing. Especially in high level PvP people tend to hide their builds, so they won't get copied. A lot of them are very special setups a normal player wouldn't even think about.

I actually think pvp is the one place I would want to be able to check builds. In random pve, I don't care what you're using as long as someone has taunt, someone is healing, and enemy health goes down. In organized pve, your equipment is either preplanned or assumed to be meta anyway. In pvp you can't tell if you're facing good players, zergs, exploits, cheese, etc.

Some people take pride in their builds, especially if it's something out of the ordinary. They don't want people being able to inspect them to see what they're wearing. Also, it takes away the element of surprise if you fight them, which can be a huge downside.

[Snip]. You basically want to win by opponents not knowning your playstyle, because if they do, you're afraid that your skill migh not be enough. And I'm pretty sure for at least stamina classess there's nothing to hide - it's fury/spriggans/nma and there's like 20 pvp build videos of the same stuff on youtube. Im curious as to where this delusion of "top pvpers came up with their own super secret pvp builds that they don't want to reveal" came from? Top PvPers post build videos on youtube of meta stuff. You can't beat higher stat density, there's just sets that are more stat dense and give you more damage/healing/mitigation combined than the rest of the combos, and those are top performers. I would love to see a single video of a nord magicka bowblade with his super unique set and skill combos suited for his playstyle that outperforms the regular meta setups.

    [Edited for bait]

I dont run any of those, neither does many top tier PvP players that i know, and I wreck meta players with it.

As far as youtube builds go, they are average at best, and I can guarantee you those same top PvP players dont run it.

High stats are ofc important, however 6k wep dmg and 20k resists wont save you from 3 jesusbeams and a few leaps.

The reason they can show you these 1vsX videos of those builds is because they dont end up in these cheesy scenarios, atleast not when recording it.

There are unique builds that are far superior, but this Superior build may only be right for you and how you play, not necessarily everyone else.

I suggest u do some experimenting of your own, and find your perfect build instead of copy paste alcast builds, its much more fun, and rewarding to actually have something for your own for once 😊

No, you should not be able to 'inspect a player' when you can just do the decent thing, and ask, offering them the choice to tell you or not.

Support roles, if it's not a pug, often sort their sets pre-raid, and if it's a nTrial, it often really doesn't matter, but if what people are wearing, bothers someone that much, they can ask what the other person is wearing.

Futhermore, you'd then have people with more gold than sense, buying runs to get the best gear, getting inspected, invited into a raid only to be carried because that gear doesn't match their skill.

It is not a good idea, it'll lead to arguments and toxicity, and it hasn't been implemented yet for a good reason.

Quite frankly, I'm in agreeance, we already have enough meta-gatekeeping as it is, we don't need inspections to give people even more of an opportunity to kick and drop people for not playing a very specific way.

But there's literally no gatekeeping about build knowledge.

Alcast, Dottz, Xynode, and Nefas are very popular and well known content creators that talk heavily about builds for all classes and roles across all aspects of gameplay. There's no gatekeeping to be had.

I don't cry at all about nerfs, because I build my characters off of my own preferences, not what other people are "meta'ing" at the time. I couldn't care less about BiS or most-optimal builds. I build to have fun and enjoy the game.

Just thinking of the title of this thread, I'm thankful for Alcast, Fengrush, Hack the Minotaur, Zeus and all the other people who describe in detail their builds, rotations, buffs and don't worry about the whole build secret deal. So I really don't think there is that special someone who has the god build that we all really need to know about. It's already public knowledge.

I don't cry at all about nerfs, because I build my characters off of my own preferences, not what other people are "meta'ing" at the time. I couldn't care less about BiS or most-optimal builds. I build to have fun and enjoy the game.

There's literally gatekeeping in this thread. People proclaiming to be master PVP builders with super secret builds that take years and millions of gold to acquire. People who would quit the game if their beloved sets got nerfed somehow.

You can get PVP builds online too.

    Why should builds be secret?

Why should someone's build in game be public knowledge?

There are plenty of build guides out there for every facet of this game if you want access to builds that aren't secret.

Why should a build matter so much to be top secret? It's almost like there's a bunch of cheesy PVP builds that players know would get nerfed if they knew how easy it was.

If it was as skill based as people say, builds wouldn't matter.

Maybe some of us doesnt want to get zerged down by our own inventions?

Or having others benefit of our millions of gold spent, and years of experimenting and farming.... For free?😂

When anyone on a video game goes "BUT WHATABOUT MY HARD WORK" it makes me want whatever it is they're arguing against even more.

Almost as much as those that say "If this happens I'll quit"

Secret builds is what brings flavor to the game, and the ability to create something of your own keeps the game alive, atleast for me.

Imagine it this way, what if you were the one that painted the Mona Lisa, how would you feel if every painting in the world became an exact copy of it, because people are too lazy to create a masterpiece of their own? Thats how the game becomes when everyone use the same stuff, it becomes gray and boring.

I would recommend finding something else to bring flavor to the game.

Are you suggesting that your idea to bring flavor to the game is to take other people's builds to use for yourself?

No, I'm arguing that that gatekeeping build knowledge is probably the most futile and fragile aspiration that I could possibly think of in this game.

Builds change all the time. The game and meta changes all the time. Sure, its a slower pace than most, but people like you tend to be in here crying the most about nerfs when they finally adjust the balance.

Sounds more like you have convinced yourself somehow that we are hiding super cheesy carry builds for ourselves....🤦‍♂️

Either way, like u mentioned before i have actually worked hard to make my own builds, thats the fundamental reason why i dont share it with people like you 👍

And crying nerfs? If there is someone crying for nerfs its copy paste metaplayers, others (like me) build around it if its possible.

I'm actually of the opinion that build doesn't matter that much, but it seems to have riled up some people wanting to keep their secrets.

God forbid someone take their build and do it better than them.

You are misunderstanding. Why should others prosper of my hard work?

Would you spend 8 hours a day for a year writing and publishing a book, and just put it out there for free? No? Didnt think so.

Builds does matter, its about making builds that are tailored for your gameplay flaws and strengths. Just copypasting an alcast build with the exact same cp and stats wont do that for you, you will still struggle.

Everyone has their own unique god build, you just dont know what it is before you know your gameplay flaws, strengths and struggles, so you can tailor it to fit you and your playstyle perfectly.

There's not a 'one size fits all' build, especially when it comes to support roles. You could follow a guide and their build could be great, just great for them, their skills and playstyle, but it might not suit you, so others prefer to make their own. Some people are secretive about it, that's their choice.

This, healed some ntrial where other healer asked about sets so we did not double stack, obviously raised my reputation of him. Obviously in an organised hard trial support will have gear requirements who can be discussed.

Now in pug dungeons you will have the dd who do less dps than the healer link his gear and the other DD with less meta gear and ask for an kick. Or why healer has DD gear even if none has dies until stupid DD pulled boss then tank said AFK 1 minute.
healer reason is that in this dungeon with an real tank only off heal is needed and dps is to low to bother buffing
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I strongly feel it is time ZOS added inspecting a player to the game. It's not always looked at for gear score we will be able to look at the gear styles and also to see what the gear score is ;)

Oh dear gods no...as if the random groups weren't toxic enough already....

Yeah.... it was a disaster when I played WoW and RIFT, and would probably be even worse here.

hello mynx from rift. no i dont know you that i know of, but i played rift for several years before coming to eso.
