Inspecting a Player!

I strongly feel it is time ZOS added inspecting a player to the game. It's not always looked at for gear score we will be able to look at the gear styles and also to see what the gear score is ;)

Oh dear gods no...as if the random groups weren't toxic enough already....
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Yeah.... it was a disaster when I played WoW and RIFT, and would probably be even worse here.

That wouldn't be a good thing. Especially in high level PvP people tend to hide their builds, so they won't get copied. A lot of them are very special setups a normal player wouldn't even think about.

no, players from other games always show up asking for this feature, it's not something the community at large wants to see
It's annoying enough that eso logs tells people everything.

If you want to know what I'm wearing, ask and maybe I'll tell you.

No thanks. You can just ask politely. Especially when it comes to cosmetics, most players I've found are flattered to be asked.

As for gear, I once had a player gripe at a healer who was wearing Combat Physician. In a normal dungeon. When the healer was doing just fine. That's something we don't need to encourage in group content.

    - average joes hates when their meh gear is revealed

    - imba pro pvpers hates when their "secret" gear is revealed

    - personally i'll go crazy mod if some brainless fanatic of some YT guru

with almost zero knowleedge of mechanics gonna tell me that my build is bla-bla

just because it is not a copy of their beloved guru's build

    - you can paste here any other reason based on "it is not of your business" argument

    - you don't need gear inspection to kick the person for their bad performance

No thanks. If you want to know the style or outfit or costume you can ask. We don't need gear score and the toxicity that brings.

Please no. Lol. Just leave people alone. If people wanna sort gear out in organised runs, fine, but picking on random people in PUGs will only lead to toxicity, and we really don't need that. Your intentions may be honourable, but someone will be an ass with it.

There is no gear score in ESO and gear used is all the same in organized PVE content.
For PVP this is simply inappropriate, because you can "scan" somebody from stealth and then switch to sets which are direct counter.
    Really bad idea.

    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause

No! Mind your own beeswax. I'd be Ok with cosmetics, what skin/tattoo/motif someone was wearing, but in my experience if you whisper and ask nicely, 9 times out of 10 they'll tell you. ESO has always maintained a policy of not sharing that stuff, along with DPS meters etc, to avoid toxicity and it's one thing they've done right in my opinion.

I could care less what others might think of my gear choices but I do prize privacy. An inspect gear option would be about as welcome as asking to someone's skirt to check the color of their panties. Bad idea and an unwelcome intrusion.

Asking someone what dye or style they are using is always a nice conversation starter. There is no need for this feature unless maybe for roleplaying opportunities (character bios etc).

What is "gear score" and why should I care about it?

It's an old MMO measurement system for a character's power level almost exclusively governed by the players themselves, whom have made various mods and add-ons to support such measurements. Think of it like this. Set x is worth 50 points. Set y is worth 40 points. Weapon z is worth 70 points. etc. etc. Add up everything they are wearing and that is their gear score.

Players would then set arbitrary limits on joining dungeon groups based on gear score. You had to have a score of 250 or more to join this group or a score of 375 or more to join this raid. The general idea behind it is to create a system that helps ensure that everyone in the group at least has the ability stat wise to complete the content in question.

The problem is that it just doesn't work. Gear score tells you nothing about a player's ability and many try to cheat the system by equipping sets that may not actually benefit them during the check because those sets score higher than sets they can actually use. Highly skilled players may not meet gear score requirements and are rejected while extremely low skilled players are accepted because they've got high gear scores.

Furthermore, the system is extremely easy to abuse and quite frequently is with players setting mandatory gear scores that require end game raid sets to meet for content that is tuned for entry level dungeon delving. Not to mention that the equipment scores themselves can be pretty arbitrary based on what formula the person behind it decides to use. This results in a system where, for example, a FotM set scores much higher than a comparably effective but much less popular set.
