    @Neoealth

You are classified as millenial by most definitions. Millenials are generally agreed to have been born from 1981-1996. Some defintions say it starts at 1980 and others say it ends in 2000, but all of them include 1981. So you're not just a millennial but the first millennials.

And gen X. I am actually a unique subset of gen X apparently .
    * I can operate every type of phone from rotary to smartphone.
    * I can navigate DOS and have owned every version of windows except 8( because i avoided it like the plague).
    * I can get magnetic tape out of the players, usually without to much damage. I can also rewind one using a pencil.
    * The walkman in Guardians of the Galaxy... I owned one.
    * I remember when Yahoo use to be a community hub for the internet instead of the news regurgitator it is now. It use to be really awesome.
    * I know what a fax machine and the internet sound like when they are talking on the phone.
    * I know what a fax machine is and how to use one!
    * 56k internet was fast when i was a teenager.
    * 4-8 weeks was your expected delivery time on orders and it was through snail mail. 24 hour delivery times was like flying cars.
    * Search engines use to be dumb. It was all keywords and you had to enter terms a certain way.
    * Some of my first computer games were on 5.25 inch floppies.
    * A 40 inch tv was huge. It took 4 weightlifters and a furniture dolly to move it. I just carried one down stairs under 1 arm.
    * My friend had one of the first cell phones, a car phone. It came in a briefcase you could pack enough in for a long weekend.
    * Pagers and payphones. That was high tech.
    * Myspace use to be an online storage site.
    * I grew up in a time without social media. When you were forced to learn social interaction skills by actually interacting with people. I tend to stay away from social media mostly, its not good for you.
    * I remember thinking netflix would go out of business because why would you order movies through the mail when you can just go to blockbuster?
    * Malls use to be the go to gathering place... and parties but we wont talk about those.
    * Paying bills was a hassle and could take an entire day. I dont even get bills now. People just take money out of my bank account when they need it. I write about 2 checks a year but can use paypal, cash app, venmo, etc.
    * Texting on a flip phone sucked, but using landlines to talk to your friends really sucked.
    * I owned an original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, etc on down the line up to the Wii. PS2,3, and 4. Sega. I tried to go back but its not the same. Those video games are terrible now.
    * My first MMO was text based in the late 90s. It was so simple. It is to ESO what "Tic Tac Toe" is to Dungeons and Dragons.
    * My wife went on a business trip about a thousand miles away one time. She was using her smartphone to start our car, open our garage door, turn lights on and off and other nonsense. If you were in a house 20 years ago and that stuff was happening without you doing it, you would have called a priest.
    * All of my christmas decorations are either on a smart plug, timer, or remote. i dont have to turn anything off manually. The only way not to turn something off manually 20 years ago was to let the batteries die.
A lot has changed in 20 years tech wise.

That's not a subset of GenX, and definitely not unique. That's simply GenX as a whole. We can all be described like that.
    So sayeth another GenXer.

Hey! Watch your mouth! A lot of us are GenX.

I still dont follow all these Gen abc thing XD

    Very generally:
Boomers are the parents of Generation X.
GenX are the parents of Millenials (also known as Generation Y).
GenY are the parents of GenZ.

There are also date ranges (dates of birth) attributed to each generation, which is why I said that the above is just a general description, since, as one example, members of Generation Z can have either GenX or Millenial parents.

Honestly really charming too see these results. I have to admit I wasn't expecting the average player age to be this high, and so many players to be that high up either. Makes me think that there's probably quite a few OG TES fans among them. Hoping to be like these folks when I'm older.

I think the poll is a little odd and should of been

    10 to 19
    20 to 29
    30 to 39

And so on as it currently stands I fall into two options.

I just turned 40 in October so which one do I choose?

    30 to 40 or 40 to 50??

ESO makes you work for things and requires time.

Most younger players don't want that at all, they want in-and-out games where everyone is a clone.

There's a lot of younger players on console, around your age.

    No age doesn’t matter.

One of the things that is great about the game is that I don’t have any preconceptions/biases about other players based on their age (or gender or geographic location). So I can go into any encounter with a totally open mind and make my judgements based on their behaviour in game.

That a part of why I love this game, more mature community.
Despite some cry-baby post, it's very few compared to other MMORPG I've played for.
Also MMORPG are less popular these time and they're mostly populated by old school gamer who played all the good old one ^^

Younger community is for now more on MOBA and FPS type of game from what I can see.

Sometimes I imagine a fate of a man born in the 19th century. Many players here are born 1980-2000, so let's imagine a man born in, say, 1890 in one of the European countries. His land was united when his parents were born and he sees the consequences - economic, cultural and ethics rise, anti-war feelings, the people eager to look into the future! Greatest scientists work to make life better worldwide.

In 1900 he is 10, his parents plan his further education, his future life, career. It is the time of magnificent empires and great hopes. The people see the future - it's predictable and sanguine. The world is anxious to see it's own shape after the 19th century - the century of wars and unimaginable scientific and technical progress, corporations boom, new household items, elecrticity, ideas of democracy, humanism, equality, brotherhood, some anti-war feelings. Some believed people would never fight each other. That was the time the people took off into the skies and began to seriously theorize of a spaceflight! They've even invented that 7.62 caliber "humane", "less violent" bullet thinking war itself to be the legacy of the less civilized times. No "PvP", no violence. It is only PvE now - the Man versus the environment.

In 1910s he's in his 20s. What a lovely age it is!.. Girls, love, work, horses begin to give way to cars, phones, new freedoms and rights!.. Ford introduces his Model T. "Titanic" breaks the news, but still it is the time of dreams of a perfect future!.. But then it comes to 1914 and WW I starts. All the dreams are ruined when our guy is only 24. Europe is ravaged, more than 31 million people KIA, WIA and MIA. Who of the common people could ever imagine that disaster to happen a year before it actually happened?.. Yes, the war gave rise to medicine, new technologies, but what was the price?.. Mud, blood and suffering.. In 1918 Fritz Haber wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry for saving millions of people from starving - the same man who was called the "father of chemical warfare" for his years of pioneering work developing and weaponizing chlorine and other poisonous gases which brought death and suffering to almost the same number of people. What an irony of fate it was.

1920s - our guy is in his 30s. Revolutions and the fall of the entire old world, old ideas and dreams. Great Depression begins meeting our guy married with his two little children..

1930s. By this time someone has written a ticket to the customer support complaining on no PvP, lack of new mounts, supreme weapons, etc.. "Here you are" - replied the support team: 1933, 1938, 1939-1945. The nightmare took 55-70 million lives. Our guy is 43-55 and he cannot remember that 20 years old youngster was actually him. His country is ravaged and torn apart, he knows what fear and starving mean, he has already seen the horrors which left no place to his dreams. His family - what happened to them?
It's 1950s - the guy is in his 60s. The life brings back the long lost serenity. Wars occur somewhere out there in a long distance from him.. Time to look back to rethink his life and look into the future. What future?..
In 1960 our guy is 70 years old. Greatest scientists work to make life better. It is the time of magnificent world superpowers and great hopes. The people see the future - it's predictable and sanguine. The world is anxious to see it's own shape after the 20th century's first half horrors. The second half becomes the time of unimaginable scientific and technical progress, corporations boom, new household items, ideas of democracy, humanism, equality, brotherhood , anti-war movements. Some believe people would never fight each other. That was the time people took off into the space and began to seriously theorize of an interplanetary flight! A bit later in 1970s they'll even invent that 5.45 caliber "humane", "less violent" bullet thinking wars to be the legacy of the less civilized times. No "PvP", no violence. It is only PvE now - Man versus the environment. How familiar it is to our 80 years old guy.. What if I get back to the time he's 23 to show him everything that awaits him, would he believe me? In 23 he was so certain, so vivid, so self-confident.. Those of you born in 1990, do you differ much from our guy born in 1890? "There is no fate but what we make for ourselves" - yes, Kyle Reese? I wouldn't have been so sure.

I think age is not the main thing to concern, because we're not immortal. Every generation meets its own troubles, some were born in the US or Canada in 1985, the others were born in 1900 in Germany, Russia or Turkey, or in 1950s in Kampuchea only to meet Paul Pots reign of terror in 1970s. What's worse - to be yet unborn by certain eve.ts or to depart before they happen? Anyway, it is only links in the chain of life. Bad times create strong people, strong people create good times, good times create weak people who create bad times, bad times.. Sorry for the wall of text, guys. Age theme makes so many thoughts to come back.

A lot has changed in 20 years tech wise.

I'm a boomer apparently due to someone else deciding these things, I was born in 1963. Also my father was in WWII but he was 19 and the war in Germany was officially over by the time he arrived there. The boomer generation is mostly denoted by veterans returning from the war and starting families, those children are boomers. My father married in 1961, a full 16 years after the war ended so I tend to place myself in the GenX category if I must categorize. Plus, everyone underestimates my age by about 10 years, so there's that.

I have experienced all of the things you've mentioned and remember "worse" things, although I have no interest in remote control of my car or house. I remember 300 baud (yeah, I said it) connections to BBS through Tymnet. I remember the internet being for non-commercial use, to be courteous by not downloading "large" files during work hours. I bought Netscape Navigator on a floppy included with an official book to get started on using the web, before that it was FTP, telnet, gopher, etc.

I remember 19" black & white TVs and having to move the rabbit ears every time you got up and rotated the dial to find a channel. UHF was the worst as you didn't have set tuning locations like VHF to click to.

I had a Jaguar 64 as my first game console. I owned a Vic 20 and even a Commodore SuperPET. Gaming was pretty much arcade only, my family was too poor to buy an Atari or Pong machine. Even if we had the money, my mother wouldn't have allowed it, she wouldn't allow cable or a microwave in the house, a true Luddite she was.

There probably won't be as many 10-20,seeing the game is made for adults (18+ in most countries,16+,or 21+in a few countries). Also, most newer gens are hooked on consoles, since they started there with kid/teen games.

Once you get past 25ish, age is less important than life milestones.

Someone who’s married with kids and a mortgage at 28 is older than a single 40 year old with no kids and no mortgage.
