You do know that there've been plenty of 'flashy' (and skimpy) examples of Western Fantasy artwork since at least the 70's, right? Both American & European. (Boris Vallejo, Clyde Caldwell, Julie Bell, Luis Royo, Keith Parkinson, Larry Elmore, Christos Achilleos, every artist in Heavy Metal....)

Chainmail bikinis and sorcerors in rainbow fashion disaster aren't an exclusively "Asian" thing.


...and honestly, I enjoy that stuff - because I grew up with it in the 80's, with Dragon Magazine covers, fantasy novels, album artwork, artist collector cards, etc. Silly armor just says "fantasy adventure" to me. /shrug

(that said, I've got at least a couple characters I could put screenshots of in this thread. If I ever got around to it.)

So be the person in Tamriel whom you want to be, coming from the culture you want to role-play, with the belief system that best expresses your character’s personality and background. Whoever you want to be, there’s a place for you here. The lore is yours.

So everyone fits into the world we all play in, no matter if they are shiny or not

I like different styles, shiny or not; but even most simple of my characters look bright - I like to see high contrast on myself and on other players, I need something to catch my eye Also, I don't imagine my characters as passive part of ordinary NPC crowd - I like unusual appearances and items cause they help me imagine and create mix of ESO universe and different universes in my head during playtime.

My stamsorc was created with contrast between pure white and black - and these colors are nothing but natural and normal... I like them bright though





My stamdk usually wears bright red costumes with glowing gold parts. But not so long ago I bought the spotted pair of cute companions, so I wanted at least one character to match their appearance



My stamblade looked like this for some time after we got new costume from daily reward:



This is her only outfit since we got that system; she used to take both of her flying companions on every "mission". She is master thief, assassin and head of my criminal syndicate, and in this outfit she totally fits her image of gangster (with somewhat futuristic theme, and guns are replaced by katanas):



But most of time she returns to her usual look... She was kissed by Velidreth herself after they dined together; her pet is brave flying snake - she adopted him during her first travel to Hew's Bane; her mount is bloodthirsty creature from other planet in distant universe - no matter that it's not logical and that he is supposed to violently destroy any life forms on sight, he loves her and was simply searching for home and comfort That's crazy, but that what I imagine when I play

And what your character does, and says, and believes, becomes part of that world. For you, and whoever else shares the experience, what happened is now part of the lore.

So this means, once there was a time when three adventures met while hunting the world boss - one of adventurers was a cursed khajiit who was riding a tamed creature from other universe

...I can also play as walking lantern, because the nights are dark and my character is templar who brings the light and entertainment



There was other player who was riding by and he stopped for a bit, looking confused and quickly moved on... So, once there was a time when lonely adventurer had to travel during the night, and he suddenly saw a mysterious stranger slowly walking near the empty forest road. There was some poor NPC following the wraith-like light, as if he was hypnotized and captured The adventurer decided that he doesn't want to track where those two are going and what creepy secrets they keep, so he quickly rode away.

I have several that would qualify as 'normal' and some flashy, here are some of the more normal characters (and they all have relatively normal mounts. I guess the second guy has a lizard senche, but that doesn't seem too odd considering murkmire.):

Black Sabre-tooth mount

Generic Nix-Ox Mount


And these guys might be pushing the bounds a bit since they have skins, but I don't think they are overly flashy skins, esp for argonians. And they all also use normal mounts.

And really, even the rest don't push it that much more. Maybe one argonian with the frost skin and one with the lava skin would be the most stand out of the bunch.

THOUGH, I do actually find the whole "immersion" thing more broken by generic mounts appearing out of nowhere, than by mounts that look like they are entirely magical popping up as if by magic. So the outlandish ones still make quite a bit of sense to me.

My sorc (horse is a bit flashy but I rotate her mount and pet a lot. Pet is always a cat, mount for a while before this was the white holly horse, I mean she is an Altmer so she'll get the fancy stuff. She's in a costume at the moment but under it is a solid outfit for adventuring in the field).

I love rp and I love costumes, so I don't even use motifs that much and I try to make my characters look in lore, to an extent. The only exception is my love for Dwarven Spider Mount and pets, as I use them on my main outside of rp sessions.

My main character, Elbereth Elf-Born, before and after becoming a vampire.

I use hood and goggles combo for her during the day for vampire rp reasons.

My second favourite, Detritus Fortesque, I use slightly rusted Fire Guard armour on him mostly.

Dranos Athrys, Dunmer Warden in respectable attire. I'd like to remake him as a necromancer when Elsweyr comes out.

Dralas Andrethi, the newest addition to my roster. Used for Tribunal Temple rp.

And a joke character named Wears-Women's-Clothing. Still not as flashy as some running around.

I love the idea of this thread!

Sometimes I like to use very shiny dyes, but I keep returning to classic, plain outfits or costumes.

This is one of my first "costumes". It is the old skin of the Crown (? or forebear, I forgot) costume you get from a Bergama quest. I really liked this a lot until they changed the Redguard fashion.
