No more crown store items for in-game gold

I corresponded with the support service for a few days about the question "is it legal to give people in-game gold for things from a crown shop?
One of them said that it is against the rules to trade Crown Store items for in-game gold, or otherwise to trade gold for crowns.
And also added that this can lead to a possible deactivation of a player's game account.

Pretty sure it was Gina herself that said it was ok. She is the official spokesperson for Zos.

To clarify, trading an in-game item for other in-game items is allowed; trading in-game items for real-world money or other out-of-game items is strictly prohibited.

A Crown Store item is considered an in-game item.

So until there is an official notice from Zos to the contrary then these comments hold.

What OP has stated could be due to miscommunication on the par of them or CS or a mistaken interpretation.

BTW, the quoted comments are copies of what the links show. No mistaken interpretation at all.

Idk is right. Saw her bless off on it in discords. Hope someone screenshotted what she said was okay. Doesn’t matter though, they’d say too bad and ban anyway.

Giving in game items for real money is forbidden. That is clearly stated in Gina's comments I quoted and linked.

Items purchased with crowns are in game items and that is what is gifted/traded.

Further, do not expect Gina to reply. Hopefully CS will be updated to give correct information. However, Gina is enjoying holiday and is always tagged a lot. Unless she has something to add to her official comments she will not find the need to repeat herself. I could be wrong, I have been before.

Take the word of ZOS on the forums, ESPECIALLY Gina Bruno’s, over the customer support emails.

Trading crown store items, via gifting system, for gold is not against TOS.

Buying someone crown packs in exchange for gold IS against TOS

A good rule to live by in life is if you’ve done something questionable or you think it might not be legal to do, it’s best not to go confess about it to the authority on the matter (customer service) or post about it in the newspaper (forums).

Like if you call the police and say “hey is it okay if we have an event at my place where people bet on sporting matches with money and play poker etc and trade money for mystery gamble crates?” Then being surprised when the police show up and arrest you for an illegal gambling operation.

Like I don’t know why people keep bringing this subject up. An official answer has been given. The matter is settled.

There is now conflicting information. Gina's statements are rather old an could be out of date. The CS statement may not accurate or misinformed. Either way, ZOS needs to clarify this. The problem is, it is a holiday week so ZOS won't get around to this any time soon. Also ZOS's past record on clearly explaining things, is spotty at best.

Crown trading for gold has always been acceptable and will continue to be as far as I’m concerned. Woe to the people that are perceived to ruin this for everyone else because they can’t stop asking questions. 🤷‍♂️

Gina is the community manager. She is an official spokesperson for Zenimax Online Studios. She regularly conveys the official message from Zos.

Her standing and rank is leagues above the contractor with the company that handled your response. So her replies on this are as official as they come. Also, Zos tends to not reply multiple times on the same subject. It is just the way they are.

Jesica Folsom is another community manager that is an official spokesperson for Zos. Just FYI.

the problem is, you keep trying to say that CS representative somehow superceeds the word of a person one of whose jobs for ZoS is WRITING patch notes. a person who does biweekly ESO lives, you know the ones that give up to date official information and have ZoS leadership present, who has direct line to the leadership vs minor employee with incomplete information. she is as official as it gets

you don't know who Gina is.. then that is the question you should be asking. Why is that that everyone else is taking her answer as official. could it be.. becasue it IS official? CS doesn't have any power, that's why if request they get is serious, they have to escalate it up the chain.

LOL. I have never seen quality CS for an MMORPG except right after launch. It eventually gets contracted out to cheap lower cost companies and the quality drops significantly.

It is not uncommon with gaming CS to get responses totally unrelated to the ticket. Though I can understand the OP brining this issue to the forums.

In my experience it's safe to disregard whatever support states as they tend to be poorly paid contract employees - often hired through another company - who half the time don't even know what game they are providing support for and just copy+paste the generic solutions, rules, and code of conduct that was provided to them.

Mind you, it's not their fault. Just how these sort of things work. Having in-house support who can communicate with the developers of a product on a daily basis and receive specialized training tailored to supporting that given product is expensive. Outsourcing the job to barely computer literate people living in impoverished countries is much cheaper.

When in doubt always ask for clarification from someone who represents the company developing the product.

That's true! Support system which is, you know, not supporting in most cases.
But they get paid.

Gina already ok'd this. She is also a part of TCE Tamriel Crown Exchange NA guild's discord, she is probably there to oversee transactions and catch scammers.

And up until now, I still have no idea why people are so salty over players buying crowns when I just use my in-game golds to buy it from other people.
