Pretty sure selling outdated movie tickets is a scam..so selling outdated expired cake thingy is a scam to.

The item can be sold as a collector's item. The onus is on the buyer to do their due diligence before making the purchase.

Think of it as a hugely disappointing learning experience??

I'm sorry, that really does suck. On the plus side, losing 99k isn't as bad as losing 100k, right?

That's a very small plus though.

What a dword to list that in a trader.

Also, I don't see how the OP got scammed. The item was listed clear as day in a trader like every other single trader item is. A scam is being duped in to buying something and receiving something else entirely or nothing at all. The OP received what he paid for and nothing less. I could list a potato for 1m and if someone chose to buy that, then that's 100% on the buyer as it's quite clearly a potato listed for 1m.

The item is only valuable for collectors. I keep a voucher or whatever event-starter item for each event, just because I am a hoarder who has storage space issues. I can see myself buying one of these, even though they are no longer valid, if I somehow missed it or destroyed mine from a past event.

If the description of the potato informs you that upon using it you gain 100% xp for 2 hours... but you don't get that xp (because it's an time event thing), then it is a scam.

The reason why so many people in this post agree that this item should not be sellable but character or account bound.

Is it the buyer's fault? I'd argue. Especially, if the player is totally new to the game and don't know a thing about in-game types of items.

Also, I don't know about other players.. but it's kind of weird to seek after time event specific items such as especially the said jester event voucher when one didn't participate in the event. It's like wearing the Doors t-shirt and not knowing what the band it is...
    but hey...that's me!

Bunny, do you play on PC/NA? If you do, what is your @ name? I didn't sell the dang thing, but I feel bad you got scammed.

wha? not a scam... he/she/it bought something worthless intentionally. caveat emptor

Technically not worthless. There's no utility with the item, but there is a small market for items that are no longer possible to obtain, like level 50 versions of the Companion's weapons, old ingredients, non-grand soulgems, or BoE Viper and Ebon pieces.

bought a non BOP belt from the hircines set... no joke, I actually had to look twice when I saw it in the guild store... it was cheap too.

Hmm, is there a market for the "other soul gems"? I should have a bunch in the bank :)

Not a big one. Those are pretty common. The one I wonder about are the heavy Night Mother's Embrace pieces I've got squirreled away.

Ugh, I'm sorry someone put that up for sale at such a price. I've seen a lot of people selling items that are just about to come out on the luxury vendor the following weekend for like three or four times what they'll sell for, too, just taking advantage of people who don't know. I learned early on in this game that if something seems expensive in a guild store, never just accept that I'll need to buy it and instead research to find out how to get it myself. If I'm gonna buy something from someone it better be difficult enough to get to warrant my paying for the convenience of someone else having gotten it for me!

YEAH DUDE many are selling them for 100 000 - 300 000 so i thought its legit, not only that sucks but i had no idea i will be getting the cake for free soon, this is ridiculous, its not easy to get that much gold least for me it took long and hard work to save up im really depressed now, but guess i'll learn from this

What platform are u on? If you’re PS4 NA I’ll give you 100K. I have gold and I don’t use it. message me @BUNNDALE

thinking i would be able to get cake but when i use the quest item it says This offer is no longer valid.. :( i saved so much gold, why is everyone selling it so expensive if you cant even use it? Is it possible to use it? Can i get my gold back? What do i do? I'm really sad now

This is an unfortunate part of the game when it comes to newer players who don't understand event items.

Sadly, this is going to be an expensive 99k lesson for you, because it's unlikely you'll get the money back. If you can remember the seller, you could ask, but don't be upset if they say "no".

ZoS should do a better job at explaining these items sold in guild stores, and having a red text "THIS ITEM IS EXPIRED" would help new players greatly.

On my first ever toon what was a very "special" toon indeed, I once bought a random (not set piece) pair of purple braces for 25k. Why? Because they were purple and purple in most games means it's good. Plus it had the magic regen i thought my magplar needed too. I've also purchased under levelled gear just assuming it was CP160 and also recently bought a rare purple blueprint for 250k. But i never, I instead pressed select on the one below it in error. So ended up 300k out of pocket. I only noticed that once the mail came through and I tried to use it, but it wouldn't pop as it was an already known recipe.

Those are the ones that stick out, but there have been more.

I already said i did quick search about Jubilee Cake Voucher in guild stores and i found nothing, there is nothing said about the item not working, all i saw was wiki page, the price and name was enough to convince me that i'd be getting the cake. I knew what i was paying for because there was no other information so stop saying that

Note that first jubilee cake had one layer, second had 2, assume this year has 3 layers.
The first year cake in an tradable box would be worth far more than 100K I assume.
Had bought it for 100K at once.

it does not say if its first or second year one, note that I might have the second year on an alt.
