Two possible reasons why someone would sell it for 99k:

a) it's a collector's item now, and sometimes collectors will pay big money for stuff that's unobtainable. I still have some jaeda and lire runes in my bank, and if I ever decided to sell them, I can imagine collectors paying decent money for them.

b) the person who sold it was attempting to take advantage of someone who didn't know the item wasn't usable. [snip]

I make close to double that just from spending 30mins a day doing daily crafting writs on 8 characters over the course of a week [shrugs]

I just went from 0-200k in 3-4 hours this week. It's really not long if you know how to make gold. I've made over 1 million a week before when I was actively trying to get rich.

Don’t get too discouraged. There’s plenty of good players too and lots of ways to make gold.

I'd cut my wrists with stale bread if I had to do that on....8 characters. lol No amount of gold is worth it to me. lol

Also, not all players want to become the richest in eso...Some couldn't care less, you realise. And they just accumulate gold as they play.
Besides, for a new player e.g lvl 10 100.000 is A LOT OF of gold...and not that fast to accumulate as it is for an old one, let's say... level CP 720...who also knows all the tricks and what to farm and what sells best. Keep this in mind.
You remember, yes? You were a new player once. :P Or you're suggesting you started to make huge money within a month of starting playing eso?

I would classify it as a scam and an exploit of a item that should not be able to be sold. You can try placing a ticket and at least making an effort to get it changed so they no longer can be sold.

I know people who spend more time in awesome guilstore and master merchant or tamriel trading centre than on ....playing per se.
But I guess to them..it's playing.

Lots of people know better, but lots of people don't follow all the things so much. It would be easy for some people to see it and think hey this is a legit thing since I can buy it right now. Maybe once they are expired they should red flag with valid dates, at least then people hovering over this item in a guild store would probably notice it was not valid anymore. Or just make them bound. Most other things like this are bound.

Yes talk to support and report them for scamming, maybe it will work in your favor, maybe it will not but try anyway.

Why is it a scam? It's an in game item, that's BOE, being sold. Some collectors love these rare items etc so there could well be a legit market.

The OP didn't research, in particular a high value odd sounding item. And whilst i feel for the guy in this case i don't see its down to ZOS to police.

He'll people were selling WMB recipes in the event for 100k the first day before folks realized there would be 100's as we all.did it last year.
