Is Eso the best mmorpg out?

So....I'm a big mmorpg player. Always have been. I was extremely into runescape for the longest time ever until the game got ruined ages ago and kept moving around from game to game for years.

Some of the top competitors out there are

Guild Wars 2 - beautiful world, fast paced combat with great animations. Really fun story with instances. Great open world events. But once you beat the story there is nothing left but raids with a toxic community and grinding open world events thousands of times just to unlock a skin? That's the end game outside of of PvP how....exciting? Games great for one play through but that's all.

World of Warcraft - graphics are out dated but if you played it you know you get used to it fast and actually get used to it and kinda like it. The story in the game offers many quests and the dailies are great deals of fun. You finished the story, your dailies don't give you anything worth doing anything anymore so you go to toxic raids to level your gear. You rinse and repeat each time an update comes up. Nothing ever new or exciting.

Final fantasy 14 - basically world of Warcraft but with prettier graphics and in my personal opinion much better story. I found raids to be slightly less toxic which was a big plus, but in the end it's a wow clone.

Black desert - didn't play much, open world pvp killed the game extremely fast. Just a grind fest and that's about the entire game.

The elder scrolls online - world I find just flawless. So so so many fully voiced quests each offering there own unique stories. Fun combat. Lots of great updates. Insane amount of character customization compared to any of the above. Dailies galore of your options to do what you want, player housing granting an insane amount of time you can spend doing always making gold worth getting by doing quests and dailies and farming. Full thieving system like no other mmo has had with dark Brotherhood on top of it. The game always has so much going on. The champion point system always gives you a goal to work towards and let's you further customize your character. The content in the game is extremely high. The players I always found to be incredibly nice. (Gw2 being the highest outside of raids). I just can't find anything in this game I truly dislike other than the combat feeling dull at times.

I really feel like this game is by far the meaning of an mmorpg and always felt it's truly the best one out there. Please keep in mind above are only my personal opinions of the other games.

So what do you think? Is Eso the best mmorpg out there?

Yes and no, lore and combat is the main points for me staying here but mmos like wow have achievement mounts and so much more to do for achievement hunters and all don't require using a digital store. But wow is outdated in graphic, its story is forcing faction war that makes up every expansion and its combat bores me now after I played eso

    Yes.

WoW: Terribly outdated graphics and slow tab target combat, boring quest structure, endless gear grind
GW2: Outdated graphics, designed around tab target combat, boring quests (just fetch/kill quests and dynamic events)
BDO: Zero PvE content (100% PvP game with endless level grind)
    FFXIV: Basically an updated WoW
    SWTOR: Dead game
TERA: Good combat and nothing else
    Random Korean/Chinese MMOs: P2W

It's subscription free and doesn't to push me to buy things to advance further in the game. Tried ArcheAge and it had limits on how much you're allowed to craft each day unless you paid some money to extend it. WoW lets me pay its subscription with in-game currency and that's been free to play since 2015.

It's the best option on the market right now that I can see. SWTOR wasnt a bad alternative until bioware went full *** with their microtransaction system. Everything else available is pretty outdated.

I was looking for an MMO that was Mac-compatible after giving up on PCs (again) and found ESO. So glad I did. Even though I never played the original Elder Scrolls games, this is my favorite.

The Best, Most fun cannot be told accurately. Tis a point of view. There are indeed many points and factors which could determine the definition of the best. It could the best because you are in some way attached the world and characters, The beauty has captured your very soul.

One of the greatest examples is the World of Warcraft a perfect proof graphical quality will not undermine the success. The Behemoth and Phenomen of WoW does not need detailed explanation. I believe the World of Warcraft combined the best MMO can possibly offer with having unique visual style and unbelievably additive Game-play, For example ,Flying, diving underwater exploring the world from whole other perspective.

Genius Developing team and constant support, incomprehensible amount of content and the fact of low Demands. It could be run old much older Systems. It was revolutionary MMO. Almost everyone have been either inspired, motivated , copied or borrowed some implementations of Word of Warcraft. I have been playing Warcraft , there is a magic there which is nigh impossible to beat.Sense of humour, virtually no Performance impact, crashes, instant support,Massive amount of players. WoW even today is number one and the MMO broke all the records.

The single most important thing that made WoW in particular successful was that the relative ease of use and quality of the product such that people actually stuck with the game long enough to let those psychological feedback loops to kick in.
There’s something for everyone World of Warcraft" has made a genuine cultural impact since its launch in 2004 nspiring everything from a "South Park" episode to the recently-released Hollywood movie adaptation.

Social atmosphere, social levelling, tournaments for PvP,Arena ,Battlegrounds. Open world PVP, challenges.
Blizzard had good flavour text on a lot of their characters and made the world worth exploring and having fun with, and that's not a universal fact of MMORPGs; not every game I've played had the same level of atmosphere that WoW did.
The crucial thing about World of Warcraft, and perhaps the real key to its appeal, is that it suits almost every kind of player.

    and so on.

From my observing point there is a huge difference between the Best and Favoured one.

    To sum it up:

The World of Warcraft for me personally indeed is the overall Best MMO ever created and it will take miracle to beat it, possibly never.

The Elder Scrolls is growing each day and becoming my favourite MMO? It is a perfect MMO designed for my taste :) Finally I've found the right one be that of Combat, lore, story, world, visuals, soundtrack and overall immersion level. But to be perfectly sincere, is It The Elder Scrolls Online Best MMO of all time? Nay.

    Kind Regards

I'm open mind player if any1 can give me a better obtion I will try. I've played wow for 10 years, wow is legend but it's old. I've played Guild War2, it's great game but PvE is not attractive, I've played Black Desert Online, and it's pay to win game without PvE content only grind, I've played Bless online, but it's unfinished game, Russ server was dead. I've played Lotro, 1 of greatest game for PvEr but they dont have PvP. I've played FFXIV, greatest rival of EsO until now, but it's game for Otaku with fantasy world, loli etc not my taste

Try the old republic some time, hard to beat for story and setting, though I would say its about on par with ESO, despite its draw backs. Its a good experience in the end.

I think GW2 comes very close to ESO but has the problem that it just doesn't have the content-update power ESO has...but it has some better systems in place

What i think eso is lacking are other end game activities besides raids - gw2 has some very fun things to do like guild missions, activities etc... its just more diverse in what you can do

Having played the game very early on, it was an amazing journey. But it fell short over time, in my opinion, in comparison to other games. Maybe I've been spoiled by other MMOs? Long time WoW player, and I've dabbled in a few others like GW2, Tera, BDO, FF14 and others. It's definitely better than the majority on that list, but failed to keep my attention past a certain point. Which I'm slightly regretful over, because I wanted it to be the best.

To be fair, I've also been away from the game for some time. Maybe it's changed?

If various aspects of both these game (SWTOR and ESO) could be combined THAT would, hands down, be the absolute best game. Ever.

Best about at the moment and may remain so. I'd like to think I will find at least another one as good to play as well.
    Yes.

BDO: Zero PvE content (100% PvP game with endless level grind)

Plain wrong there sorry. There is a lot of PVE to do, and PVP is everywhere, but its far from 100% of the time.
but yes..grind..grind.. stupid upgade system and well.. pvp when your not exactly wanting it at times.

Storytelling is pretty lackluster in my opinion. I like the combat system. I doubt it is the best MMO, but I still play it since I already ivested time and money And the games from my favourite worlds get old (LOTRO and SWTOR). Once a new MMO from these world will come out, I will move on.

In my opinion ESO, following the TES lore, history, quests, heroes, gears, is the best. All single player games with ESO are connected in one solid product with many different aspects of gameplay, many ways to do interesting tasks, and also offering best subscription model on the market - it's just player friendly, not pure greedy and they keep it. Devs and their representatives are also among us and sharing thoughts not only moderating crowd. You also can count on special treatment in special situations, like when I was given a free month of subscription just because of the issues I had with paypal payments. This is a strong plus for the company and the game itself which encourages me more to stay with the game.

I personally do prefer ESO overall but GW2's graphics, while slightly lower res than ESO, are not outdated at all and most of the armours look far better than ESO's Body Paint. The Combat isn't really Tab Targeting either as people can actively dodge attacks, people can move in front of projectiles to block them and you are not locked to a target while in combat.

Not planing to leave any time soon, not really waiting for the next best thing.

But do find most of the non PvP stuff too easy.

For me EQ2 was the best ever MMO.

Ones I played for a long time were EQ2, Lotro, ESO and I started my online MMO experience with Legend of Mir 2.

If something new arrived that was better, it wouldn't take a lot for me to move, too many long term problems with ESO. But it wold have to be good, not just the latest 3 month trend.

I tried looking at Camelot Unchained, but no matter how good people may say it is, any company wanting money before I can access their forum, well that rings alarm bells to me.

Guild Wars2 - what really made me finally quit was a boring skills mechanics, many useless skills, and a complete lack of the mounts with inability to be a real part of a guild without subscription. FTP model in GW2 from time when I was playing, was pure solo.
    low movement speed
large areas to explore and lack of mounts
lack of guild communication without subscription
    only 2 characters available
uninteresting story quests that I was forcing myself to do
limited access to best gears and skins
this all and other things made me quit fast after levelling single char to max and another to half
wanted to make a healer, but with the available skills and gears I couldn't be effective - in eso I can be much more.
What was really cool, the way in which the trading market worked, instant sales and money gain which allowed me to get the best (available for ftp account) gears just from harvesting, refining, selling nodes.
