I like how people mention using discord all the time as a reason ESO doesnt need voice chat.
"Bob, the office does't need telephones, I'm on my cell all day long."
One place I wouldn't want voice chat, is these forums.

It is more that 3rd party apps are superior to any in game voip. Your analogy is far from a worthy comparison. Not even close to the same.

Maybe I did not understand you correctly, but the point was to have it inside ESO, not via a third party program. It would make life so much easier. Currently some people use TS, others use Discord and in PuGs no one is really going through that procedure. An automatic voice chat would make life so much simpler.
Kind of a nightmarish thought for someone like me, who can ONLY socialize with strangers in text and that's only because of the opportunity to backspace if I want to rephrase, and otherwise really think about what I say and how I say it. A lot of people with severe social anxiety manage to play social games because of the text interface, not being ambushed by a social interaction and having that buffer of typing time and correction. Adding realtime voice interaction with strangers would make it too much like real life. Some of us are here to get away from real life!
Discord works, is free, and most players who want to voice chat or use voice for group content already have it - so why have ZOS spend resources on recreating something that already exists?

If you can browse to a website, you can connect to TS or Discord.
The traffic is negligible, as others have already mentioned. The traffic from third party programs is already negligible. Development time for this feature is also not that big.Merlin13KAGL wrote: »Implementing it in game is unnecessary, would require additional development and server resources, not to mention the additional traffic involved.
Merlin13KAGL wrote: »TS and Discord are popular because they're efficient, effective, and fairly simple to implement. Unless you're setting up your own server (this applies mainly to TS), there's really nothing to it.
No new implementation is going to be as effective as two different platforms that have done that, and only that, for years.
No way would I ever have that on. People’s inane chatter in test chat is one thing, I don’t want an auditory assault every time I log in or change zones.
Oh god no. Most of us would turn it off. Those of us that have experienced nonsense chatter with in game voip understand how awful voip built into the game is. Just like the only game I played with built in voip, I would have to mute everyone due to inane chatter that would be going on.
Besides, we would have to endure all the threads about trolls in the voip.
Edit: the only reason console has voip is because they do not have access, or at least easy access, to the 3rd party voip servers such as TS and Discord. I seriously doubt Zos will add it to Mac/PC because it is just not needed.
I hope its not too late to call this a necro...
Voice chat would be an awesome feature for ESO if it is just for groups. I knew this system works very well in another game. It would make life so much easier than typing boss strategies into chat or organizing the use of a third party program for a pug group.

Not only I can't speak fluent english, I don't even like using mic with my own language. I hate feeling attached to the headphones, having to listen what others are saying which is mostly unimportant. In games I like to relax and listen music or nothing.
If ths would be implemented, it would forced all of us to listen eventually even if we chose not to at the start.
