Voice chat system for PC

I know a lot of people would disagree but some kind of voice chat system with proximity chat/ party chat/ dungeon chat and guild chat would be a nice addon for this game. I know a lot use discord, I do aswell for guild chat and trials etc but discord does not work when partying up with randoms in PVP or in PVE. Sure you can atl tab to add the correct discord adres, but to do this every time when playing with randoms would not be an option.

An implemented voice chat system could add a new depth to this game. Players would be able to talk easier in towns and there would be more interaction between strangers.

For example during questing you could talk to a random player and you might even end up doing the quest together. There would be a lot more interaction as on the consoles. Obviously the option must contain a mute function for players and maybe a range function. But overal think about how much this could add for strangers or even solo players.
Even in PVP this could change the game a bit as a big guilds could use a battle cry when charging into the enemy. Or you could try to confuse someone by wispering to them while in stealth. Even the role playing part could become a whole lot bigger and this could also add a complete new series for Youtube where strangers interact with each other.

Think about the big picture here and not the 10 people you always talk to on discord as the other tousand of players are not in the same discrod. Think about how easy it would become to talk to a random person, just like in real life.

We know this works as it is also used on console so why not add it?

Not all players are English speakers, just log in PC-EU and listen to Zone chat, take a shot every time you see a guild recruitment ad in French, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Italian, Spanish... but make sure to set up some sort of emergency call system to the ER, for when you slip into an ethylic coma

Consoles no different and it works. Xbox eu has lots of mix of languages with most people able to speak some English as a common language but some can’t but it doesn’t break it.

When I moved to PC I was surprised with it, discord and Team speak is cool but I’d you pug and mechanics etc need explained those don’t work and a game chat would be nice.

Discord works, is free, and most players who want to voice chat or use voice for group content already have it - so why have ZOS spend resources on recreating something that already exists?

Discord is free and it works, I however have never seen you in my discord while both of us are using discord... See what I mean.
The reason behind a voice chat function is to be able to talk to everyone, not only the people in your group or with your friends but also to complete strangers during random questing or during events etc. This would add a whole new level of interaction.

Oh god no. Most of us would turn it off. Those of us that have experienced nonsense chatter with in game voip understand how awful voip built into the game is. Just like the only game I played with built in voip, I would have to mute everyone due to inane chatter that would be going on.

Besides, we would have to endure all the threads about trolls in the voip.

Edit: the only reason console has voip is because they do not have access, or at least easy access, to the 3rd party voip servers such as TS and Discord. I seriously doubt Zos will add it to Mac/PC because it is just not needed.

Coming from xbox to pc I will say that there is waaay more communication when there is an in game voice chat. My experience so far is not alot of people just hang out in a discord while they're on, whereas with an in game voice chat people will sit in guild chat and just generally be more social. On top of that, it makes any pick up group communication more difficult because not everyone uses discord, or they prefer teamspeak, or just don't feel like going through the small hassle of joining a particular voice chat outside the game.

I was actually really surprised this wasn't a feature on pc, and it really should be. They have the means to easily implement it, since it's already on the console versions.

If this was implemented I'd prefer it was for groups only, and not open-world. To put this as politely as possible, most people talk complete nonsense in games with things like this, and it would be a shame for the lands of Tamriel to sounds like they're full of gibbering nutballs.

I can see the fun if roleplayers were using it, but alas, I wouldn't trust many others to use it sensibly.

A lot of people seem to want to gouge their ears out with an ice pick rather then subject themselves to the possibility that they might be annoyed at some point, momentarily.

Sadly consoles do voice comms better for most games. And it seems like its due to popular demand, a lot of PC gamers would rather live in gated communities, even in so called social mmos like this one.

In game voip in open zone would be gouging our ears out. Not a mere possibility.

I have only seen in game voip used for groups and it was constantly filled with pointless and annoying chatter amongst "children" in a F2P game called Neverwinter. Pretty much every group I ended up in I was forced to mute a couple people due to their inane chatter.

ESO being B2P likely has enough of those "children" it would be annoying.

Not to worry, Zos very likely has no interest in adding voip to PC due to the lack of need for it.

The voice chat on consoles is really nice when it isn't bugging out on you. It's much easier to explain mechanics in a PUG dungeon run to newer players and the guild chat channels are useful. I could do without the area voice chat in zone but being able to instantly chat with everyone in a group immediately after joining is great.

I think a voice chat is not a bad idea but should come with options. Enable voice chat everywhere, only zone chats, only say chat, only in groups, guilds etc. Would definitely make some towns more alive tho. Trial pugs with screaming also. And of course need an option to completely turn it off, keybindable, push to talk. I think it's a hard work to implement in the PC version of the game.

I think the game should provide a Voice Chat for Groups only, and that is of course optional. Sure, there are many good third party chat tools, but everyone is on a different server, or prefers a client someone else does not have. That being said, I don't want to hear all the random mutterings and exclamations of the general player base.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

You speak with such certainty about something you admit to never having experienced.

Group chat is not the same as open world voip. In an open world you have the option to walk away(or mute) and hear nothing, in groups people are always talking directly into your ears because of the center position of their voices.

I would want a 3d positional voip system to be implemented for the open world areas. A system where the voices are directional and get louder and quieter depending on the distance. If you have never experienced such a system then you simply dont know.

Group chat I think is pretty straight forward, people being annoying on the mic will get vote kicked like they do in other games. When people get kicked from PUGs constantly they wont have much choice but to change their ways.

We know this works as it is also used on console so why not add it?

no need with stuff like discord and teamspeak

You join my teamspeak server when you run up to the world boss I'm fighting? How did you get the IP?

I found it when googling your ingame name. Sadly I died as I pressed ALT TAB and because it took so long for me to find your IP the game even closed itself.....

How does the voice chat work on consoles in Cyrodiil? Can you talk to the enemy? How far away can you be heard? Can you tell direction?

An implemented voice chat system could add a new depth to this game. Players would be able to talk easier in towns and there would be more interaction between strangers.

For example during questing you could talk to a random player and you might even end up doing the quest together. ...

    Ew, no

    People already do this,
in part because doing so can potentially distract the target by making them stop to type
but having people whisper creepily in your ear would do something to the PvP experience

Does this happen much outside of small towns?
Wasn't there some big hubbub over some sort of 'Street Harassment' video documenting occurrences of it in cities?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEAC7nl5n2g

Are you suggesting that having in-game voice chat will lead to harassment? ....

No, am pointing out that it already happens in text chat while in cities and doing quests

    That's nice,
in-game voice chat on PC in Overwatch is generally way more toxic than the text chat
it is part of what keeps me on hiatus from the game as an online community while having returned to ESO

So your reasoning is that it shouldn't be implemented because someone people wouldn't be able to behave?

Perhaps you just need thicker skin. It's just words after all.

Can't tell if you're being facetious or not with this but no you cannot hear people in the other alliances.

No it was a serious question, because the OP mentioned talking to enemies in PVP. I don't want cross alliance voice comms. Most games dont allow it, but some do.
