Voice chat system for PC

Breaking out my air horn and assault whistles in prep for this WOHOOO it's gonna be fun!

Though I am tempted to break out my dog whistle first to find out how many people play their sound through their speakers and own dogs.

Did that for weeks to a guildy who routed their computer sounds through their house speakers.

Every time we engaged a raid boss I would blow the dog whistle and his Great Dane would go nuts.

He would always come back to either his dead tank or a wiped raid and a mad GM. God I miss those days!

That is hilariously evil. :D In-game voice chat for group dungeons would be helpful, though.

And yet again, if you didn’t like all the breathing, you could just turn it off.

The final paragraph, in this case sentance, are often the most important ones made. This one just comes off as an extreme stretch in an attempt to make a point. Yet it obviously does not.

There is a reason no major MMORPG has implemented in game voip to PC games. It has always been substandard in every manner to 3rd party systems and is mostly found only in second rate MMOs.

It is not for me to demonstrate it should not be added. It is for you to demonstrate it should be added. Without a compelling reason Zos will not be adding voip to the Mac/PC servers. Again, no one has provided a compelling reason in this thread. None.

LOTRO's native VOIP was quite useful. Guilds generally preferred the third-party services of the day, such as Ventrilo, because of better quality, but in-game voice was a lot better than nothing. I used it often for skirmishes (the kind of group instance that in LOTRO was routinely PUGged).

Kind of a nightmarish thought for someone like me, who can ONLY socialize with strangers in text and that's only because of the opportunity to backspace if I want to rephrase, and otherwise really think about what I say and how I say it. A lot of people with severe social anxiety manage to play social games because of the text interface, not being ambushed by a social interaction and having that buffer of typing time and correction. Adding realtime voice interaction with strangers would make it too much like real life. Some of us are here to get away from real life! ;)

As long as you can listen, it's all good. Not everybody needs to actually talk. Or if you do, it's only for simple factual statements or imperatives such as "I'm not ready yet" or "Somebody grab the pinion!"

Voice Proximity chat for PC seems to be a conversation of interest for me. I'm a roleplayer. I use discord and while I use discord I also stream and the ability to use voice is ok for discord but not always feasible for everyone's computer.

Bethesda has been around for a good long time now, and has several projects they are working on in many different areas.

Conan Exiles was recently released and for the rp community it has exploded quite literally to popularity. Being Server controlled for the rp community.

Bethesda should take that approach for us. Allow us to do so server invite only for rp groups for the entire world. Roleplay is a fun thing for many people that do enjoy it and having this in game voice ability for pc would help a great deal without having to rely solely on external sources to do so. Being that it is controlled in game. With options to either have voice chat open or not.
While it's not for everyone, it is still for many. I like it for role play purposes and giving my character a voice. It's less of a hassle and a preference over typing your characters roleplay.

Many enjoy ESO and still flock to it, why not add that element of enjoyment?

I'd be fine with this, if it came with an Opt Out option. I have no desire or need for it personally.

IN game chat would be nice for ONLY things like battlegrounds and dungeons. Not for pve towns or cyrodil.

Discord works, is free, and most players who want to voice chat or use voice for group content already have it - so why have ZOS spend resources on recreating something that already exists?

Because given the ammount of communication-based content ZOS keeps making, having that, then not having a means for players to communicate natively, is bad design.

Any case where players need to use a third-party program to compensate for your inability to provide is bad design.

My vote is for Discord or other 3rd party chat. /IF/ they intend to put voice chat in the PC build then for the sake of all of Tamriel, Razum-Dar etc please do not make it open world random voice chat.

I play on both console (Xbox) and PC. I've listened to the open chat in Vulkhel Guard - it's inane and really should be restricted to a group - and you get those who think it's cool to open their mic and play music through it. Totally spoils the environment of Tamriel - I'm sure that's what some hope for.

No, please no voice chat in game in the PC version, thank you very much.

I already have zone chat, emotes, yell and say turned off except in Cyrodiil. Not sure I'd want to hear random people talking in zone so would have that turned off too.

I agree with OP so, so much. Discord is great, but I loved in borderlands 2 that once you were grouped up, you could talk to your other group members. A few people chose to not use it (had it silenced and typed instead) but the majority either had it always on or push T to talk. I did the latter. It was really great for communication. It was a totally seamless part of the game that I didn’t think much about. Now that I am mostly playing ESO instead, I really miss it.

A lot of complaints about pugging vet dlcs would be lessened (at least to some degree, not completely) if we had this feature.

In-game voice chat (with appropriate disable and mute functions) for group/party members would be wonderful! It worked very well in another MMO, Lord of the Rings Online.

    Yeah.

Having done "forced" voice chat when I was in a pvp guild in wow.... Nope. Not ever going there again. If it happens, but I can't disable it... I won't be paying to play this game on two accounts.... plus a LOT of money for extra crowns.

I think the game should provide a Voice Chat for Groups only, and that is of course optional. Sure, there are many good third party chat tools, but everyone is on a different server, or prefers a client someone else does not have. That being said, I don't want to hear all the random mutterings and exclamations of the general player base.

Agree with this. In groups it would be useful, but random world chat I don't wanna hear, for the same reason I don't even look at zone chat text.

If it was optional, I'd be all for it. If I could choose to jump in, only to either find there's no one I want to talk to, or that I'm just not feeling voice chat, so I disconnect and by doing so, they cannot hear me, nor I hear them, it would be perfect.

If it was a system I could pick and choose to use (or not use) then I'd be interested in it, however, if there was absolutely no way to turn it off, other than to turn off my mic and mute me speakers, forget it, all that would do, is annoy me to death.
